I'd love to get my hands on some Meganobs, but I'll be damned if I'm ever going to buy them from GW.
Does anyone have a viable alternative from a 3rd party?
I don't tourney, so it's not an issue if it's not GM "legal".

I have not seen any good ones.

You can make your own though, give some Orks riot shields made out of plasticard, and you are golden.

This works far better for 'Ardboyz.

Your best bet is to scratchbuild with some plasticard. Some people convert from Terminators, but it looks godawful 99.9% of the time because their proportions are so out of whack.

Yeah, I can't stand the Term conversions either. I was thinking of platicarding some AoBR nobs, but damn, is that going to be some fiddly work.
I was hoping that maybe someone knew about some nice proxies that I had yet to farm off google.
I know it's a slim chance, but figured I'd ask.
This sounds like a job for Kromlech or Puppets War if you ask me.

I thinik WHFB Black orks with helmets on would suit. convert them with Nob Pks, and ad a pair of shootas to the wrist to make it a Meganob.

Black orks make much better 'ard boyz than MANz. The bulky Mega-Armor is kind of their trademark, so unless the ork is a walking metal box, it doesn't feel like Mega-Armored. Just covering them in plasticard is going to look much better than using armored nobz or boyz.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Aye, Black Orcs are better in the Ard Boyz camp. Meganobz are a bit of pain at the mo, unless you want to go nuts with some sorta of half sized Kan conversions with masses of bits there isn't really a good way of depicting them at the mo.

Its really a box we need in plastic, or at the very least Finecast for conversion possabilities.

Agree, three MANz in finecast would be a box I would definitely buy, even when I usually try to avoid the light grey stuff like the plague.

They're Orks. Mostly this applies to everything in the codex but if you don't want to buy it, build it. Don't even feel like buying boys for some reason? Using patience and sprue I suppose you could make robo-orks as some sort of wacky theme army.

Sounds to me like a block by block job. - The riot shield Orks were really cool, but I'd definitely not use them as MegaNobs due to the comparison in appearance.

I'd say block it up. - Take little cubes and build the general shape of a meganob, use some milliputt or green stuff to structure it all in shape - leave a space for the head and hands. - Then take your best bits'n gubbinz that an ork boys box might've left you and stick them primarily on the joints of your model (elsewhere is optional).

Just keeping looking at them, adding bits if you feel they need more when you want. - The wonderful thing about orks is that you can really pile things onto them - especially vehicles and meganobs.- You can keep doing this until you think it looks right. - Then take some weapon-holding hands and a good head and apply them. - It sounds like a half-from scratch and half-conversion job, and it is. It's pretty easy, especially if you sketch to see what you're doing (not even a decent sketch, even the most vaguest one'll do.)

I suggested milliputt before because I wasn't sure if your reason for not buying from GW was due to prices. - I haven't seen the prices of green stuff in a long time, but milliputt is 8 quid for the white fine version. You get nearly double the amount you get in a green stuff pack (as I recall the green stuff packs) and though I'd say green stuff IS better for detailed modelling, you're only using it for structure here. the bits and bobs to pad it all up are going to be the detailed pieces of GW's ork boys.

Hope this helps. - Apologies if I'm off the mark, or if you're well affiliated with converting already and I've just babbled something you already thought about. - But for what it's worth though, I've literally sussed this out myself as I've been responding. So if it doesn't mean much to you, at least I've advised myself here

- Doc.

Here's an idea. Tactical Terminators are pretty easy to get, as they were in the "Assault on Black Reach" box.
Cut off the head of the terminator using clippers. Glue a nob head onto the terminator body. You may need some green stuff to smooth out around where you clipped.

Now paint the entire thing bone white with blue graffiti over it. You now have Deff'wing.
Don't know if it would work, but its much cheaper $$$ wise than normal mega-armored nobs.

But way, way WAY out of proportion.

those pics are photoshopped. Nob heads are considerably bigger than that, hence out of proportion

I formerly ran and "Orkwing"
I utilized the Plastic Terminators but really bulked them out using plasticard, with bitz ordering a lot of mega armored parts. In hind sight, if I were to do it again. I would just build them up from scratch using plasticard.

The legs are the easy part. I've already started planning the torso / gob. My thoughts are you could use the front Wheel covers off the new Ork bikes to make a huge gob / front sheel, and bulk out the back. Then just make the Pk's / Shootas. It would save some case, but take some real world time.

The AOBR conversion should have their legs, arms and necks altered, just sticking Ork heads in looks crap. Adding Power Claws and large Close Combat weapons, Combi-Shotas and such to replace the arms, effectively you should try not to use the Marines arms and just use the bodies.

Also, I'd never except that Ork as a Meganob.

for mine I bought kombi wepaon arms and powerclaws with arms so the arms and head were replaced, iI did redo the headplacement by adding the neck, some people like em, some people don't but for purposes of play technically it has all the required equipment. I will say if GW would put together a reasonably priced box of meganobz say the same price as a nobz box I'd buy em, but as it is now 20 bucks per model is just to much, I spent less thanthat per model on my eldar pheonix lords

I won't disagree that converted MANZ from Terminators is WYSIWYG, but I still think it looks pretty goofy most of the time, and not in the good Orky way. I've seen one, possibly two times it's worked out and they were extensively converted with plasticard as well. I do agree that MANZ as is are ludicrous; considering they haven't been turned to Finecast yet I think it's possible there's a plastic kit for them at some point in the future, possibly with the next Ork codex release.

If you're skilled with plasticard it shouldn't be too bad. Besides, boxy and ramshackle junk can look pretty natural for Orks.
