So I'm trying something new and starting up a Valhallan IG army. It will be built around lots of heavy weapons, artillery, and huge powerblobs of infantry. I've been toying around with a few scheme ideas for a bit and came up with one that I like a lot, and is markedly different from any other armies I've painted. It also meant I got to try out a bunch of the GW browns and tans, and I've gotta say I absolutely loved working with them! I'm trying to go for a layering-heavy approach, instead of the typical "wash and edge highlight" that I've been doing for such a long time.

Aside from the really awful canteen I'm pretty happy with how the test model came out:

I like it! If only I had the money for a Valhallan army...anyways I really like it and cannot wait to see more!

They're loosely based on Soviet uniforms from World War II, which were predominantly brown. Also, white is a nightmare to paint, although I hear the new GW whites are much easier to work with.

Really liking the Soviet-esque colouring, you don't see enough Valhallans around any more.
And yes, the new citadel paints are the mutts nuts at the moment- Ceramite White will cover anything, and stays as smooth as silk- it has become my new white of choice!

Glad you dig him! I'll probably pick up some Ceramite White next time I'm at my FLGS. I'm probably going to go with the whitewashed look for my tanks.

An army of those would look actually quite nice. Also good to hear something positive of the new GW paints. Do you plan to leave the ring on the base black? I thought perhaps white may give a snowy battlefield effect.

The white from the snow (when I find it and glue it on that is!) will portray the wintry look well enough! I won't be painting the base rim white though; that will really draw attention away from the model itself since that's such a bright color, and detract from the mini as a whole. I might paint the rim with a dark brown, like on his boots.

Oh, i see. Yes, the addition of snow will look nicely. I wasn't sure if you were planning on doing anything else with the base, that is all.

Ooh, the arctic camo Sabol bag would be a good accessory for them! I'll likely get a case from KR for my Valhallans though. Been meaning to for quite some time.

Sorry, I meant Armored Company bag!
You'd mentioned getting one, just curious. Got mine and it's pretty great.
Hear great things about KR too.

Well, I'll see what kind of case I get to after I've painted up a bunch of these guys!
