I was looking around, and found these:

http://crystalcaste.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CC&Category_Code=CD

While sexeh, they're $1/ea. And I don't want to by 40 or 50 of them and get run outta town for using them.

I would hate playing against someone using those dice.

I'd allow it. I don't think there're any rules against it in the BRB.

If you weren't rolling 40 of them at a time I would be okay with it. But for fast dice rolling those dice can appear to be unclear to your opponent and might create unnecessary tension.

If they are fair dice then it would be legit to use them but as said above they look like they would be a pain to use

I love barrel dice, but i dont think they are right for 40k. I would buy a set for my L5R and Dark Heresy, but they REALLY arent suited to rolling large numbers at once (40 at once is NOT gonna work, but 6 at once might). Thing is, barrel dice don't roll like normal ones. You literally roll it (kinda like a log i guess you would say?) instead of toss it.

They're legal as long as they have six sides. I don't like the dice in the OP at all, but they're technically legal.

I believe the word for which you may be looking is in fact 'cuboid'. The dice are cool, however.

Yeh ive seen those and they are cool but it would probably be hard to read 40 of them since you can see the numbers on the sides.

I hate the dice, and not only would it be impractical, it would probably lead to some cheating. It's far easier to inadvertently roll one of those over again with a stray finger than to lie about a cube die.

Those certainly are interesting dice, I wouldn't mind someone using them but it seems others might - guess it's another 'ask first' thing with your opponents.

I'd allow, but I wouldn't like it. Abit too silly shape when the good old fashion six sided does the job fine and won't get so easily stuck between figures, terrain and etc.

They're legal, but it really seems like most of the people here would be unhappy to be playing a game with you using those dice.....maybe just get a few and use em for smaller rolls?

While pretty, they are too hard to read and would be very confusing in a game. Probably not worth the strife they would cause to you and your opponent...

I say they're not legal. The rulebook says that 40k and Fantasy uses "standard six-sided dice". Those are not standard six-sided dice.

LOL, on a side note...YEARS ago while in College I was playing my Wood Elf Army against a H.S. student's Empire Army and using Archer Wedges to maximize the number of units that could target his individual units and was quite successful in wiping whole units off of the table in one shooting round. After a particularly brutal shooting phase his Father shouted at me, "He's cheating, he's using loaded dice". The room became totally silent and one of the guys watching the game turned to the Dad and said, "He's using clear dice, how do you load clear dice?". It was very funny. The H.S. player apologized for his Father's behavior after the game. I suspect that wasn't the last time he had to do that...

I would allow it, but i wouldnt LIKE it. Depends on the possibillity of them rolling higher or lower numbers..

I'm not sure what everybody is moaning about. I have no problem reading those dice at a single glance.
I suggest glasses if these dice are problematic for you. In any case, don't blame the person using them.

I typically refrain from playing against people who are so fussy. If the shape of your balanced, easily readable, cool looking dice are an issue for them, that's probably not the last ridiculous thing they're going to bitch about...

I dont see how these dice would roll higher or lower. In fact id say they would be more random as you roll them and someone who is good can roll 6's all day with regular dice easier than with these. Only issue is rolling a large amount of them would be problematic since you have to toss them a certain way for them to roll right.

Darn it, I feel so stupid myself - I thought that you really were using loaded dice during the awkward silence bit until I read on.

Friendly game: Sure, go for it. Tournament: I'm less sure. As Marzilius has already mentioned, they aren't standard dice.

I agree that they're obnoxious, but that they're totally legit.

My best dice I have are precision backgammon dice, which are more like spheres with flat sides than like cubes.

Clear dice can be "loaded" by cooking them.

"Fair" dice are mathematically provable.

http://www.aleakybos.ch/A%20COMPLETE%20LIST%20OF%20FAIR%20DICE.pdf

If the rulebook defines dice as the standard cubical type then your opponent might legitimately complain.

These dice probably are "fair". They look fun. They are a bit harder to read than normal dice. I think they would be OK if you want to roll maybe six but not so good for rolling 10+ at one time.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
