So I'm currently on my third cleaning of my Cygnar Black 13th.

I just can not get to them look how I want and they are tiny to boot. They are hands down the most difficult set of models I've ever tried to paint.

So, what was yours?

I'll have to take pics of my black 13th. they were a little bit of a pain to paint. They are a wee bit smaller than a lot of PP models. seem more in line with GW LoTR line, well the original LoTR line.

For me its been the Eldar range.

I just cant get excited about painting them. Its like pulling teeth for me to even look at them on my table. That being said they are really fun to play though.

My question is detail wise or just overall? Mine for overall is the rhino, for detail. its so easy to paint but it looks super naked with nothing on it... so i took it to the mek shop and put all kinds of bits on it. For detail it would be my Warboss I made him out of a little bit of everything. So there was alot of tiny details to forget about... so hes constantly getting new things painted on him, a constant project.

I probably put close to 8or 9 hours into this mini. I usually only put around 3to4 hours in my character pieces.

What would you say made it so difficult?

I have to say, it does look nice. The tongue really pops.

Storm Strider, which is only 3/4 done. All those little nodes are taking forever, but its been fun to paint and I think all the work really is showing.

My finecast terminator librarian, the one with all the brass keys and scrolls etc...it was probably the most effort I've put into a single model, at least a week of painting for me. Then, in his first and only battle my best mate yahtzed his dice across the table and knocked him flying onto the kitchen floor, breaking him in three pieces...

Sigh...

By far the Bloodthirster.

One of the first big pewter models I painted. I dropped him while primed and both wings fell off. It was probably a blessing in disguise; I spent a while pining and green stuffing those wings down tight.

I would have to say the hardest for me was, the drop pod. I spent a long time making sure the OSL from the dome inside was perfect. Plus all the weathering I put into it. I must have had 10+ hours in it. Its not a hard model to paint, but I have never really liked painting vehicles cause I find them boring for the most part.

Most time spent, probably Vorenus - somewhere in the regions of 100 hours. Nothing particularly difficult about it though just a long haul of lots of fairly precise work.

Most challenging (not including the Titan I'm doing this year), probably this 1/48 Macross Valkyrie toy repaint; primarily on account of stripping it down, sanding it down so the paint doesn't rub off when transforming and remembering how to reassemble it. It was also imperative that it be extremely clean work - red is NOT easy to correct on white, and there were a lot of (waterslide) decals to apply, also needing clean surfaces. Thinking back, figuring out how to airbrush the subassemblies was also tricky; some needed to be partially reassembled for the preshading to work correctly. This was also my first airbrush preshading and oilwash paintjob.

Your Valkyrie and Venerable dread are both incredible! Is all that texture painted on or did you engrave it too before hand? I've built that model and know how detailed it is from the box, to go in and add that much more texture is crazy! It came out so well, I'd love to try it on something.

*hums the first few notes of the Robotech Theme* :-)

Very nice work on the Valkyrie, really pops.

For me I'd have to say it was my Storm Strider - not hard, but by far the biggest model I've ever painted. And the details really start stacking up. Also, the prep work for a large model is also quite daunting. If you combine that with the paintjob, you really need to put some serious time into it. I quite enjoyed my Black 13th, but they were difficult - especially the faces.

Everything on Vorenus is painted on. The only conversion work was bending some toes slightly, and drilling out a few of the missiles.

That Storm Strider's a big bugger, innit? So clean, too! (As in clean neat work, not that I think it's too clean).
