Order of the Hallowed Blade - A Sisters of Battle Army

Who am I?

Hi, my name is Will. I’m 26 years old and I’ve been involved in Warhammer 40,000 in one form or another since the second edition of the game. Some of you may remember my other blog, involving the true heroes of the Badab War; The Astral Claws, fear not, they will one day be finished.

Why Sisters of Battle?

I’ve always collected Sisters of Battle and played them from time to time, but never put much thought or effort into them beyond the odd game and collecting because the models are so limited. After the WD codex, I sold off a great deal of my collection but I was still left with quite a bit, definitely enough to make a characterful army.
Ever since second when I read about the Adepta Sororitas in the Codex Imperialis I had thought they would make a pretty interesting army on the table when fully arrayed for battle and also competitive. This army will be built with both theme and the ability to perform well on the table in mind.

What is my goal?

My goal is to plan out the army in 500 point blocks and complete each part of the force within a decent amount of time. I would like to be able to update every few days and get approximately 500 points done every week if possible. This might be easier for some sections of the army then others. Since I do not have to really buy anything to make my models, this should make my life easier. I have considered some third party models to create some more dynamic units, but for now I plan to use as many metal SoB as possible.

Does your army have a background?

Yes, look below.

Can I subscribe?

Please do, I’m encouraged by viewers and commenters. : )

Order of the Hallowed Blade

Colour scheme for the Order.

The Order of the Hallowed Blade is an Order Minoris that has grown to some prominence within the Imperium but remains secretive and distant in their undertakings, having been formed in M.37 with some unknown purpose by the Ecclesiarchy. '

Those sisters who are accepted into the Order of the Hallowed Blade are often recruited from amongst the other Order Majoris and very rarely from amongst other Order Minoris. Those sisters known for their purity and devotion from other Orders are often approached for recruitment on an individual basis and moved from their former Order. In other cases, entire squads of fellow Sororitas who have fought alongside the Hallowed Blade are indoctrinated and brought into the fold. The sisters of the Hallowed Blade are known amongst a group of religiously devout for their exceptional purity of body and mind, any less is cause for repentance.

The Order itself mostly concerns itself with the retaking of holy sites and tracking down especially foul heretics who have defiled religious sites. They are also tasked with the consecration and cleansing of any shrines, churches or sites of import.

While some Orders were founded in honour of martyrs and saints, they follow their own Living Saint whose name is only spoken in prayers and moments of reverence. Answering directly to the Ecclesiarchies highest functionaries, the Hallowed Blade often finds itself pitted even against other Imperial forces who have tread upon sacred ground they should not have.

UPDATE #1:

The lastt two images are squads I've had around for a great deal of time and will be re-finishing. These three squads will be part of the first 500 block likely, not including vehicles.

FIRST SQUAD:

This squad has already had work started on them. Two of those hacked off stormbolters will become meltas. The third is simply going to be a counts as bolter with some modifications that will turn the miniature into the standard bearer for the squad. The superior will be armed with a combi-weapon as well. This squad will be painted the exact colors shown in the colour scheme for the army.

I will be working on this squad first and I hope to have them done. These are my Dominions by the way. They all have helmets.. I think I may do my other Dominion squad the same way.

SECOND SQUAD:

This squad was done many years ago for a city fight campaign, it was quick and dirty. I emphasize the dirty. I plan to repaint them and maybe shuffle the squad around. Not sure yet. Definitely some changes aside from paint.

THIRD SQUAD:

This squad has been around for several years, it's missing one trooper and I plan to convert the superior to a combi-weapon. The armor will likely remain black, signifying that these Battle Sisters are not full members of the Order yet but they will have the purple tabards to match the rest of the army. I will likely touch these up last.

Keep in mind the SECOND & THIRD Squads are old paintjobs, second squad in particular is rushed and both will be redone and rebased.

I'm not sure on the basing, I may order resin bases of some kind at the end. Something from Anvil Industry if I do, they have amazing bases at great prices. I am thinking something more gothic or simple or I might use cities of death accessories and terrain to create my own basing.. I don't know yet. Either resin or scenic basing, I might do some bases myself as a test run.

I had not thought that far...

UPDATE:

I've done roughly half of the armor on the first squad. I'm waiting for the paint to dry and then I'm going to go over the rest of it. I might do the robes tonight as well.

The pink was achieved using 3 parts Warlock Purple + 1 part Skull White.

Oh, when I finish I plan to give them some inking for sure. Don't ask why I say inking still, there never used to be washes... just inks... ink wash they called it. xD

UPDATE:

Quick update before I sleep...

As you can see, I've mostly finished the pink armor on all of the Dominions. This was a real pain to do and I started getting sloppy near the end just to get it done. I'm not a huge fan of batch painting, but I tend to do it a lot to save my brushes....

The Rhino you see is one of a dozen or so Rhino chassis I have to work with, I decided since I'm going to definitely be doing this rhino to match the squad that I wanted to choose the most beat up one possible! It's so poorly assembled, I'm going to be forcing pieces back in place and regluing. The only good thing is, I can cover up the worst of it with sisters iconography (I've got tons of sisters tank symbols, thanks to an old trade).

I've based it pink with my remaining mixture in preparation for future work today. As you can see in the picture above this, I've got a Vindicator Siege Shield to mount! I think combined with a reinforced cockpit (Courtesy of the old MK1 kits, when I find the bitz in my house) it will give the rhino a very well armored look. At least I have a base coat done on the model for when I continue to work on it.

Plans for next update:

Rhino:
1) Find and add reinforced cockpit front.
2) Add on Siege Shield Mounts
3) Add Rhino Doors then put Sisters Fleur de Lys accessory on.
4) Mount Hunter-Killer Missile
5) Mount Stormbolter
6) Cover damaged pieces with iconography and fix the assembly.
7) Find a suitable hatch and magnetize.
8) Paint Exterior
9) Paint Interior

Sisters Squad:

1) Paint cloth portions
2) Paint Weapons
3) Paint Helmet white portion
4) Paint gold details
5) Already listed too much between the rhino and squad to plan more!

Thanks mate, I've already gotten to work. Man this Rhino was beat up, I may just end up not fixing it entirely and just using some bitz and pieces to cover the poor assembly. Given how much stuff I'm putting on this tank (Try finding vindicator siege shield regularly or the original Mk1 rhino front with the single vision slot) I want to make sure it is both unique, cool and decently assembled. For the others, I may swap to my better shape tanks!

Expect an update in an hour or so maybe!

It's actually 3 part Warlock Purple + 1 part skull white mostly. Old GW paint range. Not sure if GW even makes a color pink that would be suitable. I like this pink, it kind of reminds me of breast cancer awareness.

Plus, you know a man is a real man, when he can bring a pink army to the table!

Seriously, no idea about the last one... never met another SoB player except this dude who is probably going to be the basis of the 50 year old virgin movie, he mainly plays GK though.

Wow, that's a nice SoB blog to, kind of similar color. xD

Just a quick update, did some more work on the rhino and decided with the siege shield and different front piece, it was already not much of a rhino anymore! So, thanks to planetstrike terrain kits (Way too much terrain at my house) I am going to convert it into a REPRESSOR. I will have updated pictures a little later on today, I may be trying to get my first win of the day in League of Legends...

We'll see how it goes painting. The tank, this one at least I'll be doing a lot to hide the flaws in the construction during the conversion but the rest, well, I won't lie.. I do like 'clean' forces.

UPDATE:

Well, here is the first bit of work on the Repressor. I decided I had all of the bitz to do it, so why not.

I'm pleased with what I've done so far with this tank, from just the image I showed last night.

The Siege Shield on there was from an old vindicator of mine and just to see how it would look.

I've also put doors on both sides of the Rhino, the opposite side is from a Black Templars kit and this plain door as you can see, will have a sisters Fleur de Lys put on it.

On top of the 1 pintle mount, you can see I've put an old domed piece from the mk1 rhino kit which will be magnetized to swivel and be equipped with a pair of heavy flamers (Thank god for terminator kits).

You can also see on the front, I've put the old rhino front piece which was often mistaken for the rear ramp somehow by many people. I've also reinforced the area with sprue to give it a reinforced look. You will note, it is off-set and this is to account for the siege shield and also the diminutive size of this item in comparison with the front of the Rhino. You may notice some gaps, don't worry, these will all be filled in when I get a chance.

At the top, you will notice an odd piece of equipment that is the beginning of the top piece for the Repressor. Given in the rules, there is no major difference in size between a Rhino and Repressor or transport capacity, I didn't want an over-extended top dome like the FW repressor. I opted for something sleeker and into my bitz boxes I went and I had already set aside a bunch of these for future vehicle conversions, lucky me. I will add firing slits to the side of it and probably using a spare sister create a turret gunner at some point. It's not been glued in place yet until I can clean up the interior and then give it maybe 3-4mm of extra height. Although I do like the idea of it being lower
