Hey guys, my first post on this forum, and my first 40k army =) Loved the Witchhunters so much, had to start an army of them even though they are all metal. So far ive got 2 10 Sister squads painted up, and converted a Canoness... so i know how much everyone loves pics.... here they are =)

Squad 1 -

Squad 2 -

Canoness Conversion to be painted next. Keep in mind this is my first greenstuff work ever... -

Cheers for looking guys. Happy gaming!

That is some very nice conversion work there on your Cannoness. I love Sisters of Battle but the price tag and GW axing the boxed set just leaves me bitter on buying them.

Yeah, they are expensive. I managed to grab a good deal from ebay for the mass of metal required.

Like i said, the plan next is to paint up the canoness. Then i have a small but legal army. I have started on one of the rhino's, and decided i dont like painting tanks as much as infantry but it is the first tank ive painted, as ive only painted single miniatures before, so it will probably get more fun as i get used to them =)

Those are looking really nice, have always been a Sister of Battle fan myself.
Looking forward to seeing the Canoness painted.
I think the bases work really well with them ( Dragonforge Sanctuary, if I'm not mistaken) I would love to do that myself.
I love the colour scheme, think it is really striking, and I'm looking forward to seeing the army once its done.
I would say however that with the pale skin tone and light hair colour, it does seem to meld together, I personally would go for a slightly darker shade for the hair.
Hope this helps.

I see what you mean, but i wanted both blonde hair and i prefered the pale skin to a darker method i tried. I'll try dark lining in between them, see if it helps. Thankyou for input. It is appreciated.

I've primed the canoness and sat down and was about to apply some paint, but i stopped myself. I wanted my HQ and character models to be better painted than the standard sisters, and so im doing a bit of research and a test model on a new gold recipe first. I have made some progress on my first rhino though..

If you have any thought's at all on how i can improve any of what im doing, please comment. I'm not easily offended =p

Cheers guys!

Really nice stuff here. I would like to see some of the white from your infantry color scheme on your rhino. The gold on the rhino is nicely done, but a bit overpowering. Perhaps where the headlight covers are and the side exhausts? But i really like it otherwise. Keep it up

So i've been testing gold recipes today, and whilst its not finished, or perfected (or highlighted yet heh) I can see its coming out alot richer with this method... What do you think?

Im intending to use it for my character models, as its taking quite alot longer than my normal troop method. I was about to start the highlights, when a package i'd been waiting for arrived, which destroyed my plans to try and finish it this afternoon, as i was so excited (quite worryingly so actually) to mock up what will be my living saint....

Before i got the pieces, i was worried the backpack might look wrong, but i actually quite like it. I also received a set of pegasus wings but they didnt look right in my eyes (ive seen quite afew conversions with them on celestine which havent "wowed" me).... What do you think? is the pack too big?

Oooh, those pieces work really well together.
I had a conversion of Celestine using pegasus wings, and whilst I liked it at the time, I agree that it doesn't have the WOW factor that this has.
It almost looks like the parts are from the same kit.
Keep up the good work.

Oh and that seraphim is coming along nicely, how do you paint the gold, if you don't mind me asking.

Well its a very rough recipe atm, but it was basically,

white primer
2 coats - 1 part [GW]Snakebite Leather : 2 parts [VGC]Polished Gold
4 coats - [VGC]Polished Gold (EDIT: pain in the rear, because this particular paint will seperate when you thin it this much, ended up stiring after every other paint load. But decided to stic with it. I wanted it as smooth as possible, as im new to glazing, and wanted to set up as smoother surface as possible for next steps)
Then i started applying thinned Sepia wash (about 1 part wash 2 parts water). This was more of a glaze tbh, but i tried to let it pool a little in the recesses. Same again with devlan mud in more shaded areas. Then glaze sunburst yellow all over. And after that i started with leviathan purple in shadow (doesnt show up well in the pic).

And the highlighting to come. Thinking on it now, i'll probably have to half the glazing again now once high lights are done. Next time might have to rethink the order i do it. Silly me heh. Should be done tomorrow, and ill make sure the colours are exact in the pic when it is done.

Thanks again for comments. I do appreciate them. Great for motivation.

Have fun!

I really like your sisters.

The Canoness Conversion is great I think you have done a really good job on the new pose.

The Rhino is lookinggreat as well, I've yet to paint my first tank and I'm very nervous about it.

Loving the gold its a very warm colour.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work

Great conversion with Celestine here ! I love it.

Your golden armour are very stylish also, that's a nice and clean colour.

I hope to see these miniatures finished soon. Too bad I can't do something so great with my sisters of the Choir Carmine !

I was the same. Large flat area's for me to screw up on, No Thanks! Tbh, it wasnt really as difficult as i thought it would be, but i get scared of new stuff also =) I will say though that if you have any way of spraying the basecoat of vehicles, do so. Otherwise thin the paint quite alot. It'll take longer obviously, but those flat surfaces do show brush strokes pretty easily. And use a big brush and always try to paint in the same direction if possible - afew of the tips i was given which helped alot.

Cheers =) The Celestine whilst im itching to paint, need a bit more prep work before I take a stab at it. Also need to think over the base. Any pics of your sisters anywhere? I love looking at other peoples armies =) Especially Sisters!

Well, it is my first 40k army, but i have painted quite afew single mini's in the past, mostly Anima Tactics stuff and afew other sculpts. I had a problem in the past when i was speeding through trying to get things done quickly, and it really didnt pay off for me =) So i slowed it down. That gold on the serephim i did above is only half finished, and took me a good 60mins (although i was experimenting, so it took longer) but yeah. Just taking my time. Cheers for the compliment =)

More work on the gold, pretty much finished. My camera is being a pain today, and the lights all wierd here in my conservatory. Been trying to get the pics as close as possible, these where the closest 2.... the actual look of the model is somewhere in the middle. Really need to get a proper photo booth set up ^^

EDIT: With better light, i got a better photo -

Basecoating the Canoness now =)

Hey again guys. Been chipping away at the Canoness between work (which has been pretty heavy this week). Here is the WIP -

I need afew opinions =) First is on freehand... never done any before. Do you think i should do a design along the Eviscerator? Something not too difficult =) And second is the base. I want to add something cool to it, i just cant decide what that cool thing is =) Any ideas will be appreciated.

She's looking very nice S'jet.

In regards to your questions, I'd try a few designs out on paper before you commit something to the mini. I think it looks nice as it is but it all depends on what you can come up with.

The base being rock/stone takes away a few options but you could do some sort of worn free hand symbol on the ground or a tuft of grass or something.

I have an example of one of the army painter tufts in my mini project blog in my sig, you can pick them up from Maelstrom Games online. You could have it coming from where the rock she's standing on meets the ground.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Your cannoness is really going to kick asses !

For the free hand, I recommend a recurring symbol, perhaps a variation on the Fleur de Lys.
You can also try to get inspiration from classic (french) heraldry wich is very close to what can be expected from sisters.

That said, for the sword, the difficulty is likely to harmonize the symbol with the relative length ...

So, i've finished the Canoness. Decided in the end not to add freehand yet. Not happy with afew things, the backpack pole/book mostly. Prehaps once i've finished some other elements of the army i'll come back to it...

Very impressive.

Love the canoness conversion from the Retributor body. I'm a fan of the retributor models since, other than the actual canoness, it is the closest we get to a easily convertable mini.
