In a recent game, an argument developed that halted gameplay for close to 45 minutes. The "fight" was fairly heated yet civil but in the end we just rolled-off to settle it and get on with the game, which despite this delay, was an incredibly fun and grueling battle full of feints & maneuvers, firepower & brute force, subterfuge & supernatural acts fought between the opposing Orikan Necrons & my Khans 3rd CO! (a pitched battle/anihilation that ended in an 8-8 tie in the sixth...hate to say it, but it was "epic"!)

Hopefully someone in daka land can help me with a definitive answer to this simple question:

"On the Armour Penetration Chart, if you score a 'glancing-hit' can the -2 modifier take the die roll result below 1, thereby nullifing any result at all? For example: if you roll a 1 or a 2 does that mean your glancing hit has no effect?"

My thoughts are that the negative mods for "glancing" are there to keep a 5 or 6 from happening but once your "on the chart" something should happen at least? You've put a glancing hit on an armored vehicle, and although I totally agree that should keep you from scoring a "wrecked" or "explodes" result (barring other mods such as open topped and melta, etc!) as was possible in previous rules editions, I don't feel it means there is a chance nothing happens at all? If so it would benefit the vehicle players, which I am no doubt one of, "survivabilty" greatly but I just don't think it's true?

However maybe I'm wrong, and I will accept that if so, but we could not find anything in BBRB or FAQ that addressed this so your help would be appreciated!

And '6 or more', in case you're wondering how penetrating hits with AP1 weapons and/or against open-topped vehicles are handled.

Aha! "1or less" "6 or more", you are right! Small detail, easily over looked in the heat of battle and not printed in quick reference sheet at back of book! Thanks!!!

So, just to reiterate: going below 1(or over 6 for that matter, though that's not in question here) is not possible due to modifiers? Basically, 1 is as low as you can go, (and there is no "really really explodes!" for going over 6 - hah!) right?

You roll a D6, add/substract any modifiers and check the table. Say you roll 1 on the damage chart after you scored a glancing hit, your result would be -1. As -1 or '1 or less', the vehicle suffers a 'Crew - Shaken' result.

-Copy!

Thanks, in knew thats how it worked. I just didn't notice it on the chart, and they say nothing of it anywhere else, so was unable to "prove" it at time... just texted him a picture of the chart so "end of argument", period!

-Over!

He's simply checking his backup radio for dakka connections when the world ends works, so he can still access dakka.

But yes, you can't go below 1, nor above 6.

Yea, that's a long time to stop a game for (what I assume a glancing hit and rolled a 1 or2) a -1 penalty.

You certainly can go below 1 or above 6.

It's just that going over or under doesn't actually change the damage done.

yeah, you can hit zero or below(and 7 and above) but they have the same effect as 1 and 6.
