Hey dakka, so i have some tomb kings, the battalion+12 horses one chariot and eight archers. Also more liche priests and tomb kings that i can field in a five thousand point game.(Got the lords from a friend) So i am at a loss as too what i should get next, i want a well balanced army, and right now i seem to be lacking some heavy support, but i'm not sure. What do you guys think i need?

Probably, you'll want more warriors/archers. To really shine with Tomb Kings, you need a lot of basic troops, and they will go a long way to helping you out.

But that said, I know that's kind of a boring thing. So mix in something fun with it as well, maybe some Necro Knights or a Sphinx.

Sphinxes are good, Casket of Souls is almost an auto-include.

Both Sepulchral Stalkers and Necropolist Knights are good, but serve a completely different purpose.

Which is better the stalkers or knights? What role do they fill?

Knights IMO, they are our elite cav, stalkers can be good for coming up from below and taking our war machines or some monsters, knights will stomp just about anything and with buffs from the TK lore and lore of light are near unstoppable add in Rhamotep and that large unit of 6-9 knights rerolls failed armor saves.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

You want Stalkers and Knights-both fulfill different roles, as stated, but both should be auto-includes. Stalkers can ruin the day of anything with low leadership: hydras, dragons, HELLCANNONS, O&G, Undead, Lizards, Dwarves, Ogres (ogres may have I3)...you get the idea. All of these guys are losing wounds with no armor saves on a 4 or 5+, and each stalker rolls an artillery die for shots. Misfires cause damage on the SSs. Knights can hit hard-mounts have poison, riders have KB, plus the stomps. One of my friends plays with both, and wishes he had 3 units of Knights, and he won't leave home without a unit of Stalkers. I'd get both. Also, a big unit of Tomb Guard with a King in it wouldn't be so bad-WS7 elite infantry with killing blow? Yes, please.

I think Skeleton warriors, followed by Tombguard should be your next purchase, when I still played TK I always found myself reliying on said units for holding my army togetter

What makes tomb guard so good? In the dex they don't seem to be worth their point cost, how good is KB? And uses do tomb guard have

Tomb Guard are fantastic.

S4, T4 IIRC, and KB are solid. Even with HW and Shield Tomb Guard can go toe-to-toe with stuff like Chaos Warriors, and with proper support come out on top.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Tomb guard have KB, decent stats, and they become awesome with a king in the unit, and can be raised back from the dead. They rock. Throw a flaming banner in there too for giggles.

okay thanks, so i was gifted the sepulcher stalker/ necropolis knights box and i made them into the stalkers becasue the knight models will be a super bitch to transport, and since i play casually i'll field them as either or. Which of the two do you think is the better unit though?

The Knights are something you can build your army around, Stalkers not so much.

With Horsemen (spears), Chariots and Necropolis Knights you have a fast-moving, fairly hard-hitting, but quite fragile army. In that army the Knights will be the ones doing the heavy lifting and holding up units (and possibly beating them even on their own). Chariots will be the glass-hammer and Horsemen will serve as Liche-bunkers.

Stalkers work well in a more defensive army, appearing in the backlines to snipe war machines or goad the enemy towards the rest of your army. Stalkers aren't very mobile after they pop up as they lack the option for swift reforms, so think carefully what you want to them to do - it will take a turn or two to get them to do anything else.

Stalkers, however, fill a role that our army needs- they are great anti-armour. The sheer number of shots they can put out, all ignoring armour, can thin down or wipe out most high-armour units, even considering that they'll usually be Wounding on 5+ only. The fact that they pop up behind units, or next to them, lets you use them as character or warmachine hunters, or to swing a grindfest in your favor.
