It's the 26th now and I've still not seen the warroom app released on the istore does anyone know what's going on with it now?

privateer press wrote:April 25, 2012 – Seattle, WA. Privateer Press® and TinkerHouse Games™ today announced that War Room™, the first official utility app for the WARMACHINE® and HORDES™ tabletop miniatures games, is now set for a mid-May release. The additional production time was allotted in response to the higher resolution capacity of the new iPad 3, which requires changes to the app to ensure full compatibility.
In addition, the option to add reinforcements was added to the list of army-building features to accommodate requests from the player community.
"We want War Room to be available to as many of our players as possible, so we decided it was best to include compatibility with the new device at launch," said William Shick, Director of Business for Privateer Press. "We also took the opportunity to add a popular list-building feature requested by our players. At the end of the day, we want to ensure War Room meets our highest standards for quality when it releases and is as polished as the games it supports."

Oh well :(, it's probably the only app i've ever been excited about getting.
Is there any word on a new ETA?

I wouldn't expect it in mid-May either. I think PP dropped the ball on this one, by announcing it before release, and then delaying the release by several months for some reason. I feel like the better option would have been to make the announcement a week before a solid launch.
I'm also still not happy that the decks will be $6.99 each. Yeah, I know it's a luxury app that I don't need, and I don't have to buy it if I don't want to. I'm also aware that the full bundle of decks is available for $60. *That said*, I think it's a ridiculous price, and that even having to pay $28 for the decks for the factions I currently use(Khador, Mercs, Circle, Minions) is stupid. I also don't have $60 to blow on the bundle deal.

I wouldn't worry too much about those faction deck costs. I bet your friendly neighborhood pirates will have a solution for that shortly after release. Around the same time some asshat uses waroom to make hi-tech cheating a real issue at tournaments.

The deck price complaints confuse me a bit. They are less than 50% of the deck for the cost of, what's in effect, an eBook-version of the cards. Based on how much digital media cots in relation to physical stuff, I always thought htis was kind of comparable in that arena. Especially since it's a one-time purchase for the entire edition.
Of course, my bad blood towards the software is more that they discontinued iBodger, which as we learned more about War Room wasn't actually a competing app. War Room being billed as an army builder i think is also waht causes bitterness about the price point. Had it been advertised from the get-go as digital cards and game manager more than an force constructor, and there hadn't been the ending of iBodger as a result, folks would be a bit more optomistic at it.
Of course, with how Hanlon's Razor works, I assume the issue is more folks in marketting botching things than anything money-grabby.
And stuff.

Pretty much as Blaque said. A lot of my personal discontent stems from the iBodger discontinuation, as well as the marketing SNAFU. The price is just icing on the cake. To me, it's like paying twice for something I already have - and again, I know I don't *need* War Room.
*shrug*
I plan to keep using iBodger until it's outdated enough to where it's not functional anymore. And at some point, yeah I might start using War Room.

I've been wondering something, I have an iPad and iPhone, if i buy the decks (which sounds like they must be bought by some kind of in app service), does that allow me to use them across the two devices like I can with normal appstore purchases or would I have to pay twice for each app? If so I shall be sad :(

From what I've read about it, it's tied to your login account so you should be able to use both devices. I'd be doubtful that you'd be able to use both devices at the same time though.

I have a budget and stick to it so money spent on Warroom is money not spent on models. Since I'll never buy a faction or expansion book again once Warroom is available in the long run it looks like I'll save money. I feel like I'm getting a great deal even though I could continue to use iBodger indefinitly since I am capable of editing and expanding the program myself.

As noted already, app purchases are tied to your account. So your log-in will give you access to the cards cross-platform. Not sure how logins in multiple places and the lot work, though.
And stuff.

The only way I think it's overpriced is if you buy each deck as you need it. I'm planning on grabbing all the decks day 1 for $60. That's a bargain to carry all of that information. Piracy aside, I don't think that's an unreasonable price to have mobile access to all of that content.

Yeah... I still don't really feel like a digital version of something is worth that much, especially when,
1- I don't like to proxy (so will have the cards anyways)
2- you can't spread out cards (which I do when playing)
3- I primarily play mercs, so, to actually have all info available for my one faction on a digital device, I'd need to get, in theory:
mercs (duh)
cygnar (highborn, magnus lists)
khador (kayazy, four star lists)
minions (cross-supported minions)
protectorate (idrians)
...yeah, I think I'll stick with my outdated analog models.

Totally understand the first two points but I seem to remember an interview with a staff member that suggested you could buy the mercenary deck and get the relevant contract cards included. I think it was lost hemisphere ep. 50 but I'm unsure.

Do you know if that meant a new version of the contract cards (which were used for a short while in MkI), or the out of faction cards? Also, there are a lot that were covered in theme lists, which aren't in contracts...

They've already said there is NO support for Themes/Tier Lists. 3. They've ALSO said that Warroom does NOT validate lists. Warroom is useless for my needs. I don't need digital cards, I have the real things. I want/need a usable list builder, NOT a digital rulebook(I have a PDF capable e-reader for that, though I don't bring it because I have a mini-rulebook now). Bring back iBodger support, this app is gak.

If it is for the repurchase thing, this is again not any different than the fact you don't get the iTunes copy of something for free when you buy a DVD. Note that this is there, in part, to also let you use the cards in the app instead of on the table. It is in effect buying extra copies.
spiralingcadaver wrote:2- you can't spread out cards (which I do when playing)
It should be noted that for some folks like me, this is an improvement, as i lose a lot of time trying to find cards, as i don't stack them for fear of getting things smeared and losing wounds.

The FAQ has ntoed that Contracts and Themed lists will have models they can take in them. Allies, the bonus units for HIghborn, and Magnus and Ashlynn's Themed List stuff will be in there. A lot of it will be in there anyways because the program will have Prime's selection of stuff for free.
spiralingcadaver wrote:...yeah, I think I'll stick with my outdated analog models.
Models themselves didn't change, unless you mean cards. And note that War Room is not being billed as anything but a luxury item. For half-blind folks like me, the idea of digital copies of the cards on a 7" tablet is going to be nice, though.
And stuff.

You will get the cards and cards telling you what is in a contract/tier list, but the program will not enforce/allow Tiers in its actual list building. It WILL allow you to build an illegal list as there is absolutely NO list enforcement, though.

I think it'll be nice to look at my opponents cards while we play being able to know exactly how the rules for unfamiliar models.
It can be awkward after asking for a card and then trying to read it all in a hurry

Oh, that's bizarre, re: illegal lists being options. I guess that they didn't want to bother programming in what they needed to make it a solid program?

They'd rather you still validate things yourself and have piss poor list construction than have to update the code in the future. Still, without list validation and actual/true Tier support, I don't see myself spending the money on this thing. Again, I need a list builder NOT a virtual version of things I already have.

Looks like I'll be saving more than half the cost of warroom by not buying Colossals. By not buying the Hordes version I've have saved more money then the cost of the app and looking forward I'll save even more with each release.
I understand what people that don't want the app are getting at, it's not giving them what they want. Lucky for me at least I am getting what I want for the cost.

I wonder if they're going to change the way theme forces work in future then. Maybe it'll happen in such a way that the old theme forces will not work with it.
It is pretty daft to leave it out. Most people I play dont use theme lists but even so tis not good. Hopefully it'll be an update later.

I don't get why they don't have War Room built with basic restrictions by default, then have a toggle to ignore restrictions if you want to.
Then no worries. they can just create whatever crazy theme they want to.
What it sounds like is all the programming will be done up front, and all PP has to do down the road is add new card files to the program.
Thus it is a virtual card binder and reference source, not a list builder.
I already was leery of War Room. The idea of flipping through pages on a touch device, when I can have the cards at hand, seems redundant and time consuming.
In timed tournaments, it strikes me that it will add time to whatever you do, not save it.
Not to mention the new need to be sure that your phone/device does not use up its battery or you forfeit.
