My FLGS posted this from their sales rep. Apparently its a White Dwarf supported event with prizes. Stores are encouraged to hold it three months from now, give or take. Seems a bit rough in places, but interesting.

Quote from our sale rep - "Promote the event, print out copies of the document and hand them out. You want your community as prepared as possible for the event. Plan it about 3 months away, giving your players as much preparation as they need (and for WD support). They will be practicing with several different point armies and changing lists. Feel free to change the points as necessary. The event is a hybrid of the rule book and things that I've enjoyed doing in the past."

Veteran War Run

This war takes place over three hard-fought battles. The enemy is invading your home world. You must defend humanity.

1) The first assault is at 2,500Pts. Meet your opponent with ferocity, as you try to claim the center objective. The objective A is placed in the center of the board and can only be claimed by an UNengaged scoring unit. Table quarters are objective B. Any type of unit can claim these. You must have more units then your opponent in that subject quarter. Objective C is most units survived. This is going to be a long war...

A-3 honors
B-2 honors
C-1 honor

Deployment is Dawn Of War from the main rulebook

A note about sportsmanship. War is, an can be a nasty thing. You are not really in one. I know we can all bring honor to our names.
Sportsmanship - "Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. A sore loser refers to one who does not take defeat well, whereas a good sport means being a "good winner" as well as being a "good loser"." - wikipedia

Scoring of sportsmanship is as follows.

1 - Good Sportmanship - You earn a veteran special honor. You receive one universal special rule of your choice in the next upcoming battle. One unit of your choice will benefit.

0- Something could not be resolved by conversation, rule book referral, or dice roll. Please don't let this happen to you.

You will be showing your opponent what you gave them as a score.

P.S. Once you moved you moved, once you shot you shot, once you assaulted you assaulted. You cannot take decisions back. In war it costs you. It is okay to lose and make mistakes, you get better for having made them.

Eternal warrior is only given to a single model.

2) The second assault is 1,850Pts. Meet you enemy with caution, as you fight for different objectives. Your opponents objective is only revealed at the end of battle.

From the main rule book

1. Capture and Control
2. Seize Ground
3. Kill points.

Winning is 3 honors
Drawing is 1 honors(if you both achieve your objectives)
Losing is 0 honors

Deployment is Table Quarters from the main rule book.

Sportsmanship is conducted in the same fashion. Another universal special rule can be applied to a separate scoring unit.

In battle three, you can apply a universal special rule to any unit. You can then also apply another universal special rule to a SEPERATE SCORING unit.

3) The last battle is 1500Pts. Everyone is weary and ready for this war to come to it's end. One last battle for the survivors. Victory or defeat. It all will end...

This game ends when one side is gone...there will be no doubt who the victor is.

Winner 3 honors
Loser 0 honors

There is only one winner in this war. Overall winner is judged on Competitive spirit, Sportmanship and Painting and Presentation.

Painting and Presenting. You've got 5 minutes to tell the judge about your army. 15 honors are awarded here.

Painted to a three color minimum-2 pts
Based- 2 pts(snow,desert,grasslands)
Details -2 pts(grenades,ammunitions,eyes,)
Transfers- 2 pts( 12 or more transfers applied.)
Everything is seen as equipped- 2pts(games go faster with less confusion.)
Common theme- 2 pts
Three prepared readable army lists- 3pts

30 possible honors.

Probably work

The rumor is bland. I require salt.

To go from "no sportsmanship, no soft scores" to "EVERYTHING IS A SOFT SCORE!" does not sound like something GW would do.

It excludes too much of their user base.

Heh, yeah. Maybe that's their trick for comping GK similar to when they had to comp mechspam with that stupid 3 KP game a few years ago.

I dunno, soft scores and excluding customers are both two things GW excels at. While thisrumor sounds false, I would not be surprised to see any new tourney system that replaces 'ard boyz to be littered with softscores and comp... 'Ard boyz had some of the worst mission-based comp I ever seen.

Well, my FLGS is scheduling it shortly. So its not "false" in that sense. It may or may not be intended as the 'ardboyz replacement.

The transfer pushing part is a bit much, I agree. 50% painting scores is also a bit much, unless you have a prize for best general and best overall, it will turn off new players who haven't had time to paint their stuff yet. On the other hand, I like playing with and against painted armies, so I approve of that overall. I also like the shrinking point totals as the event goes on.

GW Trade sends out prize support to local game stores based on the amount of product they buy and the type of events they host. It could be that this is what your LFGS is getting.

The second battle is very similar to the first battle at the Adepticon TT. I was not a fan, as I felt the secret objectives were grossly disproportionate. We had to capture (not contest) both, our opponents objective, and our own. Our opponents had to destroy our scoring units. Those two do not feel as though they really are on the same difficulty level.

This sounds more like a local setup that is being planned.
Note the postied thread that GW is going to stop supporting Tournaments. Why would they create a brand new event at the same time they plan to stop (unless the reason they are stopping support is to put everything on a level field, then selcetively start the support pipeline again for the major events that draw the big crowds).

"Objective C is most units survived."
Thats not how GW would word it. "Objective C is Kill Points."

"A note about sportsmanship."
An intriguing concept. Don't be a DB and you get to give a unit any USR you want. An Eternal Belial or Vulkan or Abbadon would be a huge PITA to deal with. But why is this note stuffed in between 2 game setups rather than at the beginning in the rules section?

"Deployment is Table Quarters from the main rule book."
4th edition terminology. GW would have said "Deployment is Spearhead."

Still, this does look like it would be a lot of fun. Starting the morning with enough points to bring all the toys, then work your way down to smaller more tactical army levels.

The one USR for a unit of your choice thing could quickly become pretty broken.
Tank hunting long fangs or Psyfleman.
Wolf Lord with Furious Charge.
Heck, Paladin squad with Fearless.

Yep. Relentless 50 man guard blob?

Fleet

I wonder if it is cumulative, so in round 3, you could have 2 USRs?

I noticed the wording was a bit odd - "honors?" Could just be the new tournament person though. The USR thing is potentially game winning, no doubt about that, and probably won't benefit all armies equally.

I like the looks of the format. Progressively smaller armies is interesting and provides a mix of spectacle and timing. The missions aren't too terrible (excepting dawn of war deployment) and it'd be nice to have a nationwide GW tournament that involves the hobby. Several years of ard boyz has not been convincing me to paint my models like I should have been.

"Yep. Relentless 50 man guard blob?"
With 5 autocannons and 5 sniper rifles stuffed in for good measure. Add 5 PF SGTs and a PF Commisar upgrade and you now have a Stubborn, Relentless mob of heavy shooting dudes with 18 PF attacks on the subsequent charge.
Naturally comes the rules questions: does this apply to the entire blob, or just a single unit in the blob (afterall, I could give it to my blob...then break it up into 2-5 sepeate relentless units). But if it's for the entire blob...the FOC slot...then that would also imply the PCS, HWS, and other members of the Platoon all get the USR (that would be inline with the FAQ that allows an entire Platoon to deploy in DOW as a singel troop).

Other fun...Fleeting Deathwing Terminators. Now I can do DWA outside of your silly warpquake bubble and still get the charge on you next turn.
Outflanking Fast Land Raider Redeemers (Flamestorm in your face and the other one in his face from POTMS).
Would a Stubborn Tervigon poop out Stubborn Gaunts?

SGTs don't get PFs in blobs, neither do Commissars.

No, and fearless would override when in synapse even if it did.

I think it's too soon to be thinking about how to break it with USR, with 6E around the corner we might get some completely new stuff once it's out.

Killjoy.

Also, with the fact that the event has very little chance of being a real event and all... We were spicing up a lame N&R.

Umm. Not really. You can't double scout because you have to stay 12" away from your opponent. So it is exactly the same as current. You scout your Valk to 12" away from the tank line. Turn 1, you jump out and assault them. No difference. Fleet would make that better for the vets though.

I don't think the soft scores would be the deciding factor for me on whether or not these are false. I mean GW did just finish an extreme over haul in their paint/hobby range. This would be a silly thing for them to ignore. It;s probably half the reason Ard boys got nix'd. AB had so many crappy looking grey armies that made appearances every year with no progress lol.

That aside my hope and faith for a decent replacement event is non existent.

I dunno. Other things make me think this is false, but I could see GW adding bonus points for transfers...especially after announcing a bunch of new ones.
