I picked up some Crons a couple months back as a side army my kid and I could play around with on the dining room table to work out strategies, tactics, etc. Between the two of us, everything we have is Imperium, so I figured I'd let myself get sucked in by slick marketing and build a small skirmish army. Here;s my list to date:

Trazyn the Infinite 175pts (HQ)

Lychguard x5 w/ swords and boards 225pts (Elites)

Immortals x5 85pts (Troops)

Necron Warriors x12 156pts (Troops)

Scarabs x3 45pts (FA)

Grand total is 686 points. I figured at the start I would do about 1200 points, but as I'm better than halfway to that with the little I have, 1400 or 1500 might be more reasonable. I feel that being minimum legal plus one, or actually two, always forget the scarabs, the army is still at a very flexible stage where I can go in any direction with everything I have now being useable. Some things I'm considering:

From what I've read here, consensus seems to be Wraiths = being able to win, difficult without them.

I also like the idea of a Royal Court and will most likely do one to get Lords with ROs for some of my squads, as well as maybe a Cryptek for deep striking.

Doomsday Ark is a possibility. Long rang S9 AP1 ordnance can't be bad.

I've never played crons, and the last, and only, time I played against them was several years ago, so a lot has changed. Give me some suggestions on build ideas that will give me a competitive army that's also, if possible, flexible enough for most opposing armies. Thanks.

Sorry to say, but you placed your army list a little too far down. This is Warhammer Fantasy army lists
I'm sure the thread will get moved soon enough though.

LOL, I honestly don't know how that happened. I rarely scroll down this far. Mods, please move, and thank you. Wow, I'm red faced...

OK, I'm bumping this because it's in the right place now.

I think that there are some "absolute truths" behind necrons, and I would start with them.

1- Catacomb Command Barge are real MONSTERS. They hit like trucks, they are somewhat resilient, and they are vehicles under HQ slot. I can't leave home without 2....

2- Wraiths are pretty good at killing things and tarpitting deathstars. Scarabs are a great choice, too.

I think it's hard to get on a list without these, so I would suggest adding 2 CCB with O-lord and scythe, and a squad of 5-6 wraiths.

Now you have to manage a choice: do you prefer Warriors or Immortals? Immortals are surely more powerful, but they are expensive and support a so-so transport. Warriors are more fragile and less "deadly", but they pack a more reasonable cost and can be greater in numbers.

Now that you have your "mandatories" (CCBs and Wraiths) and your troops (you have to decide the number and type), points left out will have to provide you:

- Infantry killing: here I think Annihillation Barges will outhshine quite everything, but you could also afford some Night Scythes with an equal killing power (they are more fragile, so you have to balance your game style!)

- Transport stunlocking: I would give you the same advice i gave for infantry, but be aware that Night Scythes are easy to be chainstunned, too!

- Veichle killing: at this point, your veichle killers are the CCB, which are in fact quite good, but cannot always run like mads at opponents 'heavies. Here the "little combo" Triarch Stalker (TL HGaussCannon) + Cryptek Herald of Destruction comes in mind. You could also leave it to the scarabs, but I feel too much pressure with them when I see Flamers and such.

If you could go on and write down a list starting from these points, I think we could understand your needing better and help you the way you actually want to play them.

I hadn't considered CCBs before you mentioned them, but after looking in the dex, yeah, I can see it. Sweep attack is pretty sweet.

Immortals vs Warriors; I was planning on going with one squad of ten Immortals, and two (possibly 20 man) Warrior squads since they're cheap as chips. Troops choices to be augmented with Lords with ROs.

I guess I'm looking to do more of a foot slogging build, but obviously you need a fair amount of support as well, anti vehicle being a big consideration.

My next question is, are Doomsday Arks worth having, or are the points better spent elsewhere?

I'll get a hypothetical list written up when I have a bit of time later on.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's a list I came up with. It comes in a little high at 1762 points. I'd prefer to be about 1500.

Trazyn @175
Warriors- 2 squads of 12 @312
Immortals 1 sq of 10 @170
Lychguard x5 with swords and boards @225
Scarabs x9 @135
Wraiths x3 w/whip coils @135
CCB @80
Doomsday Ark @175
Royal Court @255
-3x Lords w/ROs
-Cryptek HoD w/Veil of Darkness
Overlord w/War Scythe @100

Aside from the Lychguard, Wraiths and Royal Court, no additional wargear was purchased. As I've never played Crons, I'm sure this list is flawed, and I would surely appreciate it if you guys could help get it to around 1500 and still be competitive.
