Howdy Dakka, pretty much what the topic says. I've been running a small footslogging necron army at my FLGS (usually 1500pts) and was wondering if canoptek spyders can be worth adding w/o the list being a full blown scarab farm? and if so what have y'all used them for to the best effect? S6 T6 mc seems a pretty good deal for 50 pts and i dig the new models. Any feedback is always welcome

You can easily toss in 9 spyders in a footslogging list, and then sprinkle in a few scarabs and each turn start creating a single horde.

The spyders do one thing nercons can't, melee. They can hold their own against even the toughest stuff on the block.

A Gloom Prism on one of them is a great way to cancel out Psyker Shenanigans...

They're pretty solid monstrous creatures you can pick up on the cheap. Initiative 2 still hits before the power fists/klaws and thunder hammers that really threaten them so they're great close combat support against anything that isn't another faster monstrous creature or rending things like genestealers. And you don't need the full scarab farm but if you have an open fast slot as a 45pt upgrade for even 1 or 2 spyders a unit of 3 scarabs easily gets to be size 5 or 7 by the time you get into combat which can add a lot of weight to a charge.

I run this configuration in my army, Its not 100% footslogging but its close.

Fast Attack
5 Canoptek Scarabs
5 Canoptek Scarabs

Heavy Support
3 Canoptek Spyders, 1 Gloom Prism

Its not that many points and fits well into most every necron list that has the appropriate slots open. I use it in a tesla spam list and it really helps me diversify my threats.

I was also thinking of something along these lines.

Fast Attack
scarabs x6
wraiths x6

Heavy
a-barge
a-barge
spyders x3 fabricator claw

Thats the heavy and fast attack picks ive been considering
basically use the spyders to pump up my scarabs turn 1 then babysit my barges or any ground pounding objective holders from assaults.

Awww Yeah!
