Apparently, all the cool kids at Dakka start out by posting an introductory message that says hello.

So, yeah. Hello.

Been playing 40k for about 8 months (still very badly). Been gaming for most of my thirty-eight years on the planet (mainly board games, RPGs and MtG). Played Fantasy back in the late Eighties, at school, with cardboard counters as I was but a poor waif. Now I'm a bloke with a bit more disposable income, I can afford a few plastic kits now and then.

I play Space Marines, and I will not apologise for that. Also, I like Finecast.

My second army is Necrons. Pretty sure I have no idea how to play them well. Looking forward to the second wave, as I hope to suck slightly less with a few Wraiths and Spiders on the battlefield.

Yay!

Why apologize for playing with Space Marines anyway? They got awesome modules and are far from easy to play. Anyway! Welcome to Dakka!

Agreed on all counts. Having read through a lot of Dakka posts, it seems that a fair amount of players would sadly not share this opinion, and would actively encourage newer players to play anything BUT Spehs Mareens. Not me! I say pick up the power armour and wear it with pride.

Cheers!

And Don't worry about the haters, Space Marines ARE cool!

Guilliman and the Ultramarines are like Manchester United, everyone hates them because they are so awesome!

Word up, Ultramarines are the beginning, but still very popular and fun to play. Also very easy to buy off ebay.

I would stay with the Ultramarine and keep tabs at which army kicks your @55 fastest and coolest. Also check out other paint jobs and specual rules. Boom, after a year or two you will be expert Marine and have a great idea for army number 2.

Well, there are a lot of space marine players, and more diversity is always nice. Either way, you should play what you like and shouldn't be chastised for it.

Yeah, there are quite many sm players already, and it is rather annoing if you are the only non-sm guy in the store and they are all doing "training battles" between marines.... so some (Including me) encourage starters to check out the other armies gw has to offer.....

note that I'm not at all a SM hater, I just dislike how GW focuses on them, every other model they produce wearing power armor.....

but if you think they're cool, go for them!

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)
