Hey folks, looking for bit of feedback on my "work in progress" project.
It's nothing much, especially since these are like my sixt and seventh marine that I'm actually painting, and may or may not be rubbish to your liking

So here, will link few shots.. Again this is work in progress, I still need to add fine details, highlighting, and Ultra's 2nd flag (which is the only thing stopping me from making black templar standing by Ultra o.O)
But damn, with all this blood I should've gone with black templars *sigh* so tempting

As always, could use any ideas, feedbacks, critics, suggestions etc.

Sorry for few blurs, camera is just being a pain..

I don't like the Plasma very much.

The painted marine is also far too weathered. He's bronze with blue!

I like the rest though.

It's just the eyes trying to process the picture, that's actually scab red and few spots of blood red as in blood splatter..? Besides, blood gets sticky on armor sooo.. This would be a good look, no?

What's wrong with plasma gun? :/ if its the actual shot, the plasma is still forming into a 'bullet' ?

Not really, it just makes him look rusty.

And the Plasma just looks, well, there for the sake of it. I'd say to remove it.

The paintjob looks quite dull atm. But I like the plasma! Be sure to paint it very bright. Also, you could do some light effects on the marines then.

About the blood or? Cause the pics aren't doing it justice, in person he looks all bloody :/ but say I want to improve the blood splatter effect already on him, or fix him -anything I can do?
Thx for plasma, I plan to paint from scab red/blood red/fire orange/ultramarine blue/space wolves grey as in blending effect for plasma heating into actual projectile?

And I know I could use light effect on marines I haven't done highlights yet, it work in progess

Yes, I know about that -but isn't that for 'dripping blood of a weapons' ? I did splatter effect on the marine, cept I could put dripping on bottom flag bearer
edit: but nvm, I clearly used wrong color for blood :/

Actually quite like the idea of the plasma shot! its quite funky and i love it :3 as for your bloody mairne your doing well but nothing quite makes it "pop" out at you, but thats normally solved by highlighting and washing (well at least the ones i've seen have), and last but not least quite like the idea and might take it to town on my 1ksons when they arrive! keep it going ill be following your work with keen interest!

Cool, thx -hmmm, I could wash the model a bit and splatter him again with clear red as suggested, that way I'd have two coats of blood I suppose. Just not sure which wash to use, black? Highlighting is on its way
Cheers

I think it is looking pretty interesting. I must say I do like the idea for the plasma. I haven't seen anything like it and could turn out really nice. With the blood splatter... One way of doing it and making it look realistic would be getting clear red (if you are going that route) and put a drop at the end of your brush and then just blow the paint onto the model. That is the only way I have ever gotten realistic blood splatter.

What's interesting is that the rocks are fine, at least to my eyes? Have scab red and blood red splashes and drippings on the rock, and same color was used on the marine.. The blue color must've made him all rusty like :(

Acrylic paints, especially the reds (Blood Red especially) tend to have a translucent quality. They require a fair few coats to get a solid coat. So, yes, the background colours with change it a lot.

I think if it's fresh blood, the blood needs to be shiny, like the goopy tutorial above. If it's old and dried, then that's what you've painted looks like. It doesn't look fresh, which isn't quite the feeling you're going for.

Varying finishes can really make a model pop, showing contrast in glossy vs. matte finish. I might have parts of it really dark, to suggest pooled, thicker blood there too.

edit: If I ever have problems with coverage causing color blending to change, I'll paint the areas I want a different color white first, as GW white has decent coverage and will show the new colors in it's purest. This will let you get some areas truly a vibrant color, though a darker tone would benefit the mood here and there.
