Two Conclaves, or not two Conclaves; that is the question.

Below are two lists to chose from. Both are 1850, although the second one is still twenty-points short and will need about that much padding. The first has sixty-odd points worth of dead weight; I don't have completed combi-weapon models to use or I would have included them instead.

So there really aren't any changes likely; it's just "which one do you like", and - if you're feeling up to it - why.

Despite the apparent lack of interest, I'll post a quick results update:

I went with the dual-Conclave list; it might have been better to go the other way, who knows.

First game: vs Grey Knights.

Yay! I can't tell you how happy I was to start with Grey Knights, especially when he won the roll to go first!

Anyway, it was a Crowe list with three squads of six Purifiers in las/plas Razorbacks, one squad of ten Purifiers which rode in a Store Raven, and three Dreads (I don't need to tell you how they were equipped).

He shot my Immolators up quite well - none of them ever fired a shot and all three were eventually destroyed, but he never inconvenienced any of the Exorcists. This was largely his un-doing.

The missions was to kill the Commander, he hid Crowe and he was never able to threaten Kyrinov, so we tied on the primary. The secondary was Sieze Ground and the Tertiary was Kill Points.

He sent the Raven off to look for trouble and left one Purifier unit by an objective and two by another objective. One Razor immobilized itself first turn and never fired a shot. Two Dreads deployed by the lone Purifier squad and the third deployed on the far end.

I deployed on the left, near two objectives and close to a third. My plan was to keep the Battle Sisters out of trouble until late in the game, and then rush them over to two objectives and to use the Dominons and the Conclaves to contest at least two other objectives. Which is exactly how it worked out. One squad of Dominions pretty much burnt the crap out of his big squad - Holy Fusilade, Batman! - and the Exorcists did a number on everything on their end of the board. Two objectives to one plus a small advantage in KP's.

Game Two, Necrons:

Three squads of Warriors, two Arks, two A-Barges, four Wraiths, two units of ten Scarabs, two Spiders, Destroyer Lord, Phaeron with three Crypteks.

Odd mission with odd deployment. Primary was table quarters and only troops could contest, nothing else mattered. Secondary was Kill Points, Tertiary was Flags - objectives in the non-deployment table quarters.

My plan was to keep the Battle Sisters alive, kill one squad of Warriors and lose on the secondary because that was probably the best I could do unless the guy was a total loser. He wasn't and my plan worked perfectly.

The other list might have a better chance of winning, but it was the second Conclave that managed to reach out and touch a squad of Warriors securing the tie on the primary. I actually got one objective to none on the Tertiary and I had him on Victory Points which were kept in the event a tie-breaker was required but the Kill Point imbalance was never going to be overcome.

If I had remembered how Scarabs move, I might have done things differently, but one squad got across and wrought havoc. The other was quick-fried to a crackly crunch thanks to - wait for it - Holy Fusilade, Batman! A big assist went to a heavy flamer and a bunch of bolter shots from Battle Sisters. The Wraiths also bit it largely due to - you guessed it - Holy Fusilade, Batman!

Saddled with such a pitiful point total, I started for home early.

I would have chosen list #2. I think you need at least 3 troops min at 2K, even if they're not the best in the world.

In my opinion St. Cel should be taken in every game, she is ridiculously undercosted and can win games single handedly.

Better luck next time though

I do love Celestine, I must admit; however, I also love my second Conclave. It's nice to have two beat sticks. It makes it easier to make sure one gets where it's needed.

Why have 2 when you can have 3.

2x BC, 1x repentia, these beatches kick tooshie tme and again for me.

Celesitine just cant match that amount of kick ass.

I must admit i`ve never used her but i never needed to due to the 2 x BC.

its your choice but for me thier is only 2 hq and celestine aint 1 of them.

Celestine is not going to wipe out squads like a Conclave, but in fairness, she is only 115-points - not much more than Kyrinov by himself. Celestine does have utility, nonetheless. She is as effective against Wraithlords as she is against Guardsmen. A Conclave would not fair well against a Wraithlord. Celestine wouldn't mind if she died in the first attempt; she'd just get over it and go back at it. She really is super for her cost.

I think you need 3 troop choices at this level. Otherwise some armys are just going to roll your BSS and spend the rest of the game hiding behind terrain sitting on an objective (or claiming a table quarter).
