Subject: Ork Waagh Tower!

I made this Ork Waagh tower to have some fun Ork terrain with my Orks. I used the Miniwargaming Tutorial for a Greenskin Tower found here. This was pretty easy to make, actually. I might follow their Ork Boy's Hut tutorial next.
First, I cut a dried-out 24" stick into three pieces and stripped the bark off. I then used hot glue to adhere it to a thin piece of particle board.
Next, I used super glue to attach a pair of barrels that I got from a WWII accessory kit. It had 8 barrels and a bunch of Jerry cans. I selected the dented barrels as they seemed the most orky!
Next, I used white PVA glue to put down a layer of kitty litter on the base. I used a small piece of the particle board (about 2"x2") on top of the three sticks, then put a pair of 6"x3" balsa wood pieces on top to make the floor of the upper level.
Next came the "supporting" boards that don't really support anything along with the Waagh panel. This is all Balsa wood strips.
I used 3/4" strips of Balsa wood for the walls of the platform. Any taller than that and the orks would be able to see over the wall very well. I also added random triangles like in the tutorial video. Finally, I used black spray primer on the whole thing.
Next came the painting. I used the same paint for the wood as I did for the wood.
Wood and base:
1. Heavy dry brush of Craft Smart brand Golden Brown.
2. Heavy dry brush of American brand Desert Sand.
For the red on the tower and Waagh! panel:
Delta Ceramcoat brand Bright Red
For the metal plates:
A heavy dry brush of Folk Art brand Metallic Silver sterling.
For the last step, I added static grass along with the Army Painter grass tufts to the base.

I really like it, nice job. This is almost enough to get me back into my Ork's, so no more of this stuff please... at least until I have finished with my marines!

The drums contained toxic pollutants and most of the grass died...
Any thoughts on what I should add?

Very clever, super cool, really makes me want to make one haha
A bit of a suggestion, you should add some hangy bits from it, like a skull or a grot, just a thought

6d6 resin skulls, obviously.
Alternately, you could wrap some barb wire around some of it (you can make your own by wrapping a thinner wire around a slightly thicker one and rolling it around a pen for shape, and spray painting it silver and washing it mud), maybe a marine corpse, maybe some mines around it, Spare tires\wheels, rhino doors as armor. Maybe some dakka in pintle mounts at the edges? Brass tubing chopped into thin bits for shell casings. Some disgarded guns. Perhaps a ladder made from popsicle sticks or matchsticks, Maybe even some sort of kustom force field from a styrofoam ball and some styrene tubing, other klever gubbins like that?
It looks really good as a base, but could be easily brought to the next level as an ongoing project here and there. Maybe even as a natually evolving thing; since right now the boyz just knocked it up, and they're still getting around to fixing it up good and proppa.

I completely forgot that I have some barb wire, along with some other metal bits I had been hanging onto for an Orky or Chaos project. Let me muck about with that this weekend...

Resentful Grot With a Plan
|
I like it and it inspired my sig. The honest truth is I saw the first picture and didn't realize there were more picture and just started cracking up with the thought of it being orky and functional. Looks good, and here are some things to consider adding that I didn't see mentioned
some orky glyphs would be nice
possibly a grot being chased by a squig with a second grot holding a frying pan (think tom and jerry style) to hit the squig.
Grafiti on the bottom boards
a carved out love message like those crazie umies do on one of the tree trunks used.
|
The thing thing about any discussion concerning why orks did something usually ends with because they are orks, and noone seems to argue, or offer further questioning.
