Alright guys after buying about half cadians and half catachans for my guard army (2k) I decided I want to make a futuristic German Reich...AKA Cadians. Since it is futuristic I am not going out and converting to look WW2 but it will be my own take on them set in the 41st millennium. What do you guys think of this idea? I plan on using the Balkenkreuz or stylized Iron Cross on my tanks, and on my banners. I really don't want anyone saying anything about Nazi's because my idea is in no way affiliated by that. I have German heritage and love their way of war (plus, the ww2 fighting doctrine was very similar to the imperial guard). Also what should I do with my Catachans?

I painted up my colonel...here is the scheme I decided upon.

He needs an eye.

Looks fine, i'd make sure to have plenty of iron crosses to keep distance with those damn swastikas. I'm not sure how you could do the catachans.. I guess just do a test model with this current paint scheme and adjust accordingly.

I actually have painted up some catachans, they were meant to be the Tanith First, so they all have black fatigues and catachan jackets...Idk what to do there...As to the Iron Cross, I plan on doing all of my officers with it...and transports. As to the eye remark, lol well I didn't want to risk it cuz I am not a very good painter!

Get yourself a one-haired brush, or butcher a regular brush into one. Should work out fine.

the only way to get better is to just try it!

The easiest I find is to paint the whole thing white, then paint a line on each eye instead of a dot. I have done like... 8 guys that way.

I'm going to throw up my Star of David and say a resounding no.

Call it something else, but not the Fourth Reich.

From Wiki.... Reich, is usually used in German to designate a kingdom or an empire and also the Roman Empire.[1] The terms Kaisertum and Kaiserreich are used in German to more specifically define an empire led by an emperor.[1] To some extent Reich is comparable in meaning and development to the English word realm (via French reaume "kingdom" from Latin regalis "royal").

In English Reich is sometimes used as a loan word, which denotes a historical national state of Germany.

The Iron Cross and Reich have a long history with Germany and the cross is still used to this day. Reich is honestly a great word to describe what the Imperium is. There is a reason that the Nazi's are the Third Reich. Calling something the 4th Reich doesn't mean it has to be associated with the one before it.

If anything, maybe change it so its like... the 24th Reich or something, just to get it away from the lower numbers.

Thank you Sparky, a lot of people simply associate terms like Reich and Iron Cross with Nazi's. Those terms were in existence long before the Nazi POLITICAL party took over. I am going for the country of Germany without a political party.

Then don't call it the Fourth Reich, as that is tied into the Neo-Nazi culture.

Calling the the 24th Reich, I'm fine with. But the 4th has too much history behind it to be Politically Correct.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying change then name a bit.

Oh dear, here we go again with themed armies that upset people...

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

Hey, I am avoiding as much of that as I can, if it upsets them then they don't need to read.

I didn't look that far into it, but thanks for linking and informing.

I completely agree. Plus you are avoiding the negative and going with a historical theme. And anyone not willing to accept that, well you said it best.

Being an army themed on Germany and not the Nazi should we be expecting more Teutonic references and styles/symbols or just iron crosses? Because personally i think that if you incorporate other parts of Germanic history your army will probably become less associated with a subject thats going to upset some people.

Bores.

If you don't like what's on a particular TV station, change the channel, don't call your Congressman.

Or don't bother flaming someone's thread for something you want to misinterpret into something to bitch about.

(By the way, apostrophes do not make plurals. Sorry for the Grammar Nazi... COME ON! I couldn't resist!)

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

Unless you are planning to model stormtroopers a the waffen-SS then there is absolutely nothing wrong with modelling an Imperial Guard army on the Reichswher of the third Reich. The soldiers that made up the majority of Germany's armies during the second world war WERE NOT NAZIS!!! The population wasn't completely Nazi. Hell, even by 1933 when Hitler took power they didn't have the 50% vote that was required to legally take power (they had 39% of the vote which was more than any other party in the Reichstag). Hitler was appointed chancellor- becoming Fuhrer when Hindenburg (the president) died.
You are at complete liberty to model an army on the forces of the third Reich (though it would be wise to avoid the fighting units of the SS) as they were normal soldiers just like all military forces today. Anyone that takes offence to that is just ignorant so ignore them.
You can trust me, I have spent the past year studying the Weimar and Nazi period of German history at Advanced Higher level in school.
That said, the commander model does look like a slightly balding Hitler (I have always though that, so if you use him, don't paint a mustache...)
