I've seen many a model around where it has been painted a golden color, but without the use of any gold paint. What mixture is this? I tried doing a google search, and... it's been less then fruitful. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! From what I can tell it looks to be layers/mixtures of brown and yellows. But before I give it a shot, I hope I can get some advice on the subject.

Ask the local GW staff/regulars about what paints would look best, preferably starting with a warm yellowy brown up to some brighter yellows (I am terrible at remembering paint names...) I would highly recommend trawling through Google images looking for objects made out of gold as your reference art for highlights/shading.

The technique should be a fairly straight forward process of layering, just like you would use for the rest of your model. You may want to experiment with blending, for which I would recommend getting some paint extender. My first nmm attempt was terrible as the paint kept drying before I could do any blending between shades :(

I'm still fairly new to nmm too so if you figure out any handy tricks, please share them

Another trick is to use silver plus some layers of a sepia wash.

Telling you specific colours for a NMM gold will be difficult without knowing what kind of look you're looking for as different combinations of yellows and browns will result in vastly different appearances. Like has already been stated, do a quick google search for NMM gold and you should come up with a number of good hits.

As a starting point though, I like to refer to a thread concerning the painting of a Golden Demon winner: Painting Magmatrax Tutorial and just scroll down to the NMM part.
