I just bought 78 Cadian shock troops on eBay. Built and primed (unpainted) for £27! Bit of a bargain I think

Anyway, 10 of the models are still on the sprue. I want to make this into a veteran squad with 3 meltas to rove around in a chimera (or valkyrie, haven't decided which is better...(?) ) But where do I buy three melta guns/arms from? Do GW do them? A link to a website that does would be good.

Cheers!

Hit ebay. There are a number of companies that sell parts separately. Or you can buy special weapon blisters (meltaguns and plasmaguns) direct from GW to convert existing arms with.

You just bought a bunch of used 40K models on Ebay, and then ask where you can buy used 40K stuff... O_o

Can I use them with Cadians? Maybe I'm being stupid, but I can't see how they would replace a lasgun ?

Take the lasgun off. Take the hand off the melta. Slap the melta into the gun arm where the lasgun was.

You can also get plastic ones (much more expensively, but in plastic) from thewarstore.com

Yeah, 50p for a melta is a pipe dream. Meltas are spendy. If you have any ability to use a pair of clippers and an exacto knife, the metal ones work fine. I used a ton with my marines, my plastic guard and my SOB and never had a problem.

For those Metal meltas It's easier to use the arms you'd normally use for a special weapon trooper with grenade launcher, and just cut off the Grenade launcher and hand, stick on your melts (with superglue) and assemble - Much easier than chopping up one of those lasgun arms, trust me!

Also works for the plasmaguns, meltaguns, and flamers you get in the Space Marine box, You just have to leave the hand on

Exactly what I do. And if you paint the hands right it blends in.

I would cut off the Marine hands and the stocks on the guns. They'll generally fit a lot better. You can paint the Marine hand to be a gloved hand meant to handle a hot weapon, but even then you've got a second bare hand to worry about and at best it'll look like the Guardsman is wearing Hulk Hands.

So, I have converted a lot of guardsmen to holding meltaguns, and I can tell you that it's a little more complicated than this.

Guard arms don't come out in front of their torso as much as marines do, and don't have that convenient aquilla to lock in under. This means that once you're done chopping off the hand and the stock, the guns are still just too wide to fit into guardsmen's arms. The way I got around this was to chop down the back of the meltagun a little more, depending on where exactly the hand was.

And that's important. I still had to chop out and reposition the guardsmen's right hands and move them out a lot more, but I couldn't move them out any more (and thus removing the need to chop down the back of the gun), because then there would have been no possible way to get the left arm farther enough over to even touch the gun, much less hold it.

In short, when converting a guardsman to holding a marine meltagun, in order to get the gun pointing flush enough for the right arm to be able to grab it, you need to cut the left hand and reposition it at only so oblique of an angle, which means that, in order to make it so that the hand can actually be grasping the trigger, you need to chop down the meltagun where it bumps into the chest. With metal meltaguns, this is going to be a huge pain in the butt.

I think you can buy pairs of metal plasma/melta cadians look in the troop section of the website. There are also metal metlaguns that you can find somewhere that you could model on by replacing a few lasguns (just search metlaguns on the site it is just a pack of 6 metal ones). The former is very easy but more expensive, the latter is cheaper but harder. I think I never even bought the regular cadian box set, I buy the CCS so I can get a heavy flamer and a meltagun so I need only one more to make my melta vets.
