So, I saw that Malduran posted a bat rep that used this list, and I really like the overall theme, but was curious if anyone can offer some suggestions about it. Id like to keep the Lone Wolf w/ Wolf-buddy, its just a cool idea to me otherwise, whatcha got?
Here's the list:
Rune Priest
Wolf Guard Battle Leader: Power Weapon (thinking of a pair of Wolf Claws instead)

Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannon
Lone Wolf w/ Power Weapon and Fenrisian Wolf

X9 Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun and Rhino
X5 Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun and Heavy Bolter Razorback

X4 Long Fangs w/x3 Missle Launchers
Whirlwind

This came to around 800 odd points. Id be interested in bumping this up to 1000pts.
Thoughts?

just off the top of my head points might not be exact but drop the Whirlwind pick up a drop pod for the dread and add like 1-2 ML LF

Do you mean 1-2 LF's in addition to the ones I've already taken? I was thinking of leaving the Whirlwind in as insurance against big ol' Ork mobs and those pesky Guard HQ's that hide in cover and include a Master of Ordnance haha

Anyone else have any thoughts?
Thanks!

Your Rune Priest is insurance against big ol' Ork mobs, JoTWW will drop a lot of Orks, your average Ork boy doesn't have particularly good initiative. Also I concur with Bluewulf, a Drop Podded Dreadnaught would hurt a heck of a lot. If you're really worried about things in cover, a small unit of Thunderwolf Cavalry 3-4 of them, with little to no upgrades, would tear IG Company Command Squads a new one. Or you could just squeeze Bjorn into the list. But that would just be evil

Ok, so just for fun then, what would you recommend for about 1000pts while using the Rune Priest, the Lone Wolf w/ wolf friend(wargear on the Lone Wolf is swappable)? I do have a Battle Leader w/ twin Wolf Claws too, as well as the 5 and 9 Grey Hunters and the 4 Long Fangs w/ 3 Missle Launchers.

Thanks!

Bjorn sounds interesting, what are some of the better ways to use him?

Bjorn with a PC in a point size this small would be devastating. Unfortunately to make him affordable, you'd probably have to lose one or both of your current HQs, so caveat emptor on that one. As far as the units you currently have I think they're solid. The only thing I would change, would be to make the 9 man Grey Hunter squad a 10 man squad, to give you that extra free special weapons, since they're already in a Rhino and not a Razorback, there's not really any reason not to. Also, Wolf Claws on the Battle Leader is much better than the standard power weapon, I assume he goes in the Razorback? I'd replace the Whirlwind with a Vindicator, only a few more points, and that gun is a lot more devastating than the Whirlwind.

Thanks for the reply!
So the trick is finding space for:

Bjorn
Rune Priest
Battle Leader w/Wolf Claws

Lone Wolf w/ Wolf Friend

10 Grey Hunters in a Rhino
5 Grey Hunters in Razorback

4 Long Fangs w/ 3 Missle Launchers
Whirlwind

The only reason I can't do a Vindicator is that I don't have one haha, so unfortunately that's out for now.
Any other suggestions? I guess I didn't realize Bjorn was so good, I thought I read his entry but apparentloy I missed something...

Thanks!

Here's what I come up with when I do the math. Don't take this as the gospel truth, I've been known to make some pretty stupid math errors

Bjorn w/ Plasma Cannon 270
Rune Priest 100
Wolf Guard Battle Leader w/ Wolf Claws 85
Lone Wolf w/ Power Sword & Fenrisian Wolf 45
10 Grey Hunters w/ Flamer, Meltagun as bonus, this makes both weapons free! 150, Rhino 35
5 Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun 70 Razorback 40
4 Long Fangs w/ 3 Missile Launchers 90
Whirlwind 85

This leaves you sitting pretty at 970 pts. meaning you've got 30 points to play with. I'd spend most of it on gear, wolf tooth necklaces for the battle leader and lone wolf maybe? It could also get you another long fang with missile launcher. Ti's up to you really.

Ill run the numbers when I get home, but that looks about right! Thanks for the input!
Have you used Bjorn much? What can you tell me about his tabletop uses?

Thanks!

Bjorn is even more difficult to destroy than a regular Venerable dreadnaught, which is always a plus, but what really makes him dangerous is his high BS, which means shots from his plasma cannon rarely scatter off target, allowing you to vaporize pretty much anything he shoots at. I've only ever been on the receiving end of Bjorn, and I can tell you it's not a pleasant experience. Use him primarily as a mobile gun platform, until you can get him in an assault. preferably against something that can't puncture AV13 in the assault, SM Tactical squads w/o power fists for example, or IG command squads.

Thanks for the info, I'm totally into this list, and can't wait to try it out!
Anyone have anything else to say about Bjorn or the list in general?

Thanks!

This is pretty good with the items you want in it, I'm not a fan of Bjorn but in small games I'm sure he could hold his own. However, I would make 1 little change in the line up using the remaining points.

HQ - 460pts
Bjorn w/ Plasma Cannon 270
Rune Priest w/ Meltabombs 105
Wolf Guard Battle Leader w/ Wolf Claws 85

ELITES - 45pts
Lone Wolf w/ Power Sword & Fenrisian Wolf 45

TROOPS - 315pts
10 Grey Hunters w/ Flamer, Meltagun, Standard, Rhino 195
5 Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun, Razorback 120

HEAVY SUPPORT - 180pts
4 Long Fangs w/ 3 Missile Launchers 90
4 Long Fangs w/ 3 Missile Launchers 90

1,000pts

Now I have to ask, where are you putting the RP and the WFBL? I ask, because Rhino's for SW carry 10 and the Lone Wolf can never be accompanied by anyone, via his special rule "Pack of One". Which means, either you're solo foot slogging the RP or the WGBL or you're putting the WGBL in the 5 man GH's in the Razor and then putting the RP in with the Long Fangs.

If it were me, I'd drop the WGBL and add more LF's to the existing packs. And put the RP with the 5man GH's in the Razor.

Anywho, I wish you the best of luck and lots of fun with your list.

Thanks for your reply!

That's a great point about who's going where, maybe it'd be best to drop the 10 Grey Hunters back to 9 so the WGBL or the Rune Priest can ride with them, otherwise whichever wasn't riding with the Grey Hunters in the Rhino would ride with the Grey Hunters in Razorback. The Lone Wolf and friend I figured would run cover to cover and seek a glorious end worthy of remembrance. I can't drop the Whirlwind to add more Long Fangs because I don't have anymore than the initial 4. I know Bjorn looks like a crazy big amount of points to use, but I remember him in 2nd edition, and wanted to throw him in for fun and nostalgias sake haha

Thanks for the input, anyone else?

either that, or the Rune Priest hoofs it while laying down psychic cover fire and the WGBL rides with the 5 Grey Hunters in the Razorback, while the Grey Hunters in the Rhino stay at 10 in the squad....
