Received an email from Maelstrom advising that Vallejo are increasing their price from May 11th.
Spoiler:
Hi there,
Every now and again a supplier informs us of a price increase and whilst most of the time the changes are relatively minor and occur without fuss, this one's big - so we're telling you all about it! Acrylicos Vallejo, that wonderful paint company from Spain, have decided to increase the prices of the individual paints within their major paint ranges - Model Color, Model Air and Game Color - to £2.10 each, as well as pretty much everything else they produce.
VALLEJO PRICE INCREASES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The price rise will occur on the Maelstrom Games website from the 11th of May onwards - that's this Friday, people - so if you want your Vallejo paints or paint sets or sundries at the old prices, you'd better get them by no later than midnight on Thursday night! We'll hold our prices until then even if the items are not in stock, so please feel free to order to your heart's content.
These changes are pretty big and are truly a reflection of the financial situation in Europe these days, although we can't blame Acrylicos Vallejo for that of course.
We don't know the exact details of all the price changes as yet for anything but the 17ml dropper bottles, so please bear with us: we'll let you know as soon as we know.

So? Things get more expensive.
I don't know that the OP was criticising Vallejo - the price increace certainly *is* news. I'll probably be snagging a few bottles before the weeks end to get the current price.
But only 5% on the Model Colour and Model Air lines. So while it would be wise to get any Game Colour paints now rather than later, it might be better to wait until the next sale before buying any Model Colour or Model Air.

I have a dozen pots of dried-up VGC that would like to disagree with you on that point.
I tried Vallejo once, didn't get on with it. Weak coverage, too thin for my liking, seperated out like crazy.
New GW layer paints are even worse though. I'm finding myself reaching for the p3 pots more than ever these days, and using white or light undercoats to make basecoating less of a chore that requires multiple layers to avoid streaking.
Found a pot of 14 year-old Dwarf bronze the other day (one of the old hex fliptops), opened it up, still 100% liquid after all those years and coverage is brilliant. Whatever GW did back then, they need to start doing again.

Agreed with 100%. I still have a few of my fliptop GW paints that are still good also.
Bought a few Vallejo paints the other day just to see how well they cover. May have to pick up a few more today.
I think Spain are currently trying to climb the slippery edge of the toilet bowl since Greece got flushed, so this makes sense.
It'll level out the prices of most paint companies because as far as I can see, Vallejo were the cheapest by that 20%
For most painters though particular companies do particular things well. It won't bother anyone too much

£1.99 for Game Range and £2.09 in my local hobby store, so this price range is not really going to effect people who buy in person (plus supporting local stores). I think it is news for webstores mind.

I wouldn't count on that, though. If the RRP is going up, then the discount received by your local will take a hefty cut if they keep selling at the current price they are now. Depends on the shop, I guess.

To be fair, Vallejo Model is designed to be a bit translucent, as it is meant to be an advanced painters paint, and it facilitates blending... A lot of them are opaques, but some colors are amazing for blending. Game color is equal to or better than GW I find.
Even with a 20% bump, I still think they are worth it... frankly a hike was unavoidable, so long as they don't take to doing it every 6 months, I am ok with it.

yep i still have my shining gold from back then, great coverage and still does the job
I'll still pay it. Vallejo is fantastic, and model air is hard addicting, I use it for everything now. It's addicting really. Even after the price increase, it'll still be a better value than GW paint, while being far better too.
That said, bought a few paints that I know I need refills of anyway (MORE WHITE!).
