Hey guys, couple questions around the Storm Lord. I don't have a necron codex handy so can't confirm, but this ability decimated our doubles army last night. Perhaps we were just unlucky but it was nuts how much damage it did.
The game was me and my brother (orks and CSM) vs Nids and Necrons.
Turn 1 they steal the initative, balls. Night fighting comes into play and we get to their shooting phase and the lighning begins. He rolled a dice for each of our units, including vehicles, and nailed a six on one of the defilers and a truck. 'Cron player then rolled another dice to determine how many strenghth 8 hits, getting 4 for each. He then wrecked the both, exploding the truck.
This happened in each successive shooting phase (with occasional rerolls from the guy's bodyguard, crypt something?) In which he took out a battlewagon and a rhino.
Were we just really unlucky here or did this guy not have the rule right?

If you guys were playing a doubles game, you might be over 2K in total points?
If you have a dozen units on board, two strikes a turn is exactly average. Thing is, with a chronometron rerolling for strike count, you weren't even unlucky on the hit rolls - you'll get an average of 3.5 hits/strike without a chronometron, and an average of 4.25 hits/strike with rerolls. (maths there is complicated, have to take all probability branches to calc chrono availability percentages which involves making assumptions on reroll threshold, but basically, 4.25 is close.)
Bottom line is that if you're playing large team games you might want to limit Imotekh usage. <shrug>

It was supposed to be a quick game so we took 750 points a piece, 1500 a side. Perhaps our fault for being heavily mechanised, but that thing just ran through our vehicles like nothing and then the genestealers rolled in from the flanks...
Was a complete cluster F of a game. I think we killed maybe 200 points in the end.
We made some bad calls but it just seemed a bit overpowered. Is it common to disallow certain units like him in doubles or larger games?

The lightning is hit or miss. I've had really good games with it and I've had games where it did almost nothing. Heck, one game it dropped on turn 2.
Sounds like he just had some really good rolls that night, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Well if you were playing armies of 750 points Imotekh and the cryptek were a very large chunk of those points and he really isn't that good at actually fighting so his very expensive HQ did do allot of damage but it was a large part of his army to allow him to do that.
I had a game the other day against a CSM player and I fielded Imotekh as my HQ and turn one I hit 5 out of 6 enemies with-ought a re-roll, it killed one daemon prince outright, left the 2nd with only 1 wound, removed all ranged weapons from his defiler and scratched the paint on his land raider. I had to switch dice halfway through my rolls because I could see that about to come over the table look building on my opponents face.
Now previous games with Imotekh I get maybe 1 hit 2 if I'm lucky a round.
To be honest the lightning I see as a bonus the potential to keep night fighting going for 5 rounds(done it several times) and neuter a long range shooting army is great.

As long as your opponent re-rolled only 1D6 per phase then you were just unlucky, if he re-rolled more than once a phase than you need to inform him he is playing the rules incorrectly..

1D6 per phase per Chronometron, actually. You can have 2.

at 750 points it is hard to fit 2 chronometrons. also you cannot reroll a reroll Automatically Appended Next Post: Whoopty wrote:

The lightning comes in the Necron(your) shooting phase.
