Not that there's anything wrong with GW's, it's really good, but I don't like the colour. Does anyone know of any good flocked battlemats that are available from other suppliers?

Not flocked, but you can choose your own colors by painting them, they have all kinds of different designs too.

Zuzzy mats look nice, but I'm really hoping for something flocked like the GW one. My preference is for one that I could cut up into pieces of individual grass terrain.

These look quiet good. Can't seem to find a UK source, but they might be the right kind of thing.

malfred, I could kiss you. This looks perfect. Now I just need to find a UK source, which shouldn't be a problem with Woodland Scenics, as I've found their stuff in the past.

We have one of these, it's not bad. Close to GW's one.

If you're in the UK, you can pick up a grass mat from any Modelzone or similar model railway store. They should stock them in lots of different colours as well.

God I love there stuff, doing a pond right now, with there water effects kit. Even has a small waterfall.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Thanks for the tip. Although I found that out about them ten minutes before you posted this, I still appreciate the vote for them. I can't believe I've not found Modelzone before, it's a gold mine! They've only got the mats in small 2ft square-ish and smaller, but 2ft is about right for my plan for them.

I am not sure if these are really usable as battlemats and hold true to their promise. Usual model railroad mats are not made to move miniatures on them, they soon lose the grass.

I use this option: Felt mats by Hotz (e.g. European Fields for Fantasy and Dirt Planet for 40k):

I like those, but their sizes are odd.

1.) I have no problem with 1.5" missing on each side.
2.) If you really need the full size, you can get it for some extra money.

As said, Hotz got the standard machine for free and took it. Now he has also a machine to do double size, including full size 72x48".

I like Woodland scenics stuff.

Stole them from old man's Train room (he's got dozens and dozens of them)

http://www.hobbylinc.com/model_railroad_grass_mats

so extra gaming stuff that can bring your game alive

Some stuff is great for 28mm

others are better for 15mm or smaller

I also enjoy using a custom Hotzmat I use.

Took a 4 x k Hotzmat

Matte Medium and Water Mix (50/50) The water allow the Matte to really soak in deep into the material making a stronger hold.

Sprinkle on various shade of static grass.

BAM! Nice, soft good looking static grass mat

The Woodland scenics one is more like sandpaper than a mat.
