I recently had a look at the FW Tomb Stalker and was, well, I said meh. Anyone else find this? Should we remake it to fit into the new codex?

It's a big fire magnet basically with a high point cost. It does have great toughness and 5 wounds.

You already have C'Tan shards that do a very similar thing with a smaller footprint and offer more for your army that the Tomb Stalker does. Shards also take up an Elite slot, which is more forgiving than losing Heavy Support.

You have cheaper and more effective options there than a Tomb Stalker is.

For one thing, it could use much better guns. 2 Gauss Flayers? How is that intimidating? Maybe give it Gauss Blasters/Tesla Carbines instead

To also show its massive bulk when moving, maybe also give it a similar ability to the Trygon tunneling and allow someone else to use their hole? Be a great scarab delivery system

Still its not like the Stalker isnt all that bad. For one thing its very resistant to poison, a weakness many MC face

Remember that this was designed before the new Codex was written, so Tesla weapons are out of the picture, although they may be included in a later version of IA. Yes, it's a pretty hefty point sink but remember this is a T7 5 wound Monstrous Creature (slightly better than a C'tan) which can Deep Strike behind cover, then charge without needing LoS. While it's not highly competitive I'd say it doesn't really need any improvements, maybe except the Tesla upgrade mentioned before.

I'm Imagining a hilarious Necron zilla list right now advancing under the cover of wraiths of turbo boosted tomb blades.

I guess you could also have some spyders in there and a squad of scarabs to add another dimension, but boy is this costing an arm and a leg without picking up troops yet.

I wish C'tan were more reasonably costed. None of the upgrades are all that exciting and he is vulnerable to small arms fire without any movement options. I'm sure the tomb stalker will get a revamp in the next imperial armor though.

I feel like giving it a +5 invulnerable save goes a long way to making it more sturdy. To symbolize it's greater initiative, it could have something similar to whip coils. Maybe something that helps with it's deep strike or provides stealth the turn after it arrives?

It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax...

A 5+* would be appreciated. I use one myself. Against Guard, Nids and Dark Eldar its a really pain. Strength 3 is pointless. Fleet is a godsend in a Necron army (lots of Dangerous Terrain test for Jump Infantry). I refuse to buy Wraiths (don't like the models and won't jump on the bandwagon) so I go with a Praetorian heavy list. They tie units up and let the Tomb Stalker advance unmolested. It's only just more expensive than the C'tan but is much better against small arms fire. I feel the Shards aren't fast enough for Necrons and the special rules aren't worth the points.

Ok, so having looked over your reviews and the current rules I think it should have the following

Ws 4
Bs 4
Str 7(+1)
T 7
W 5
Int 4
A 4
Ld 10
Sv 3+

Wargear
2 Gauss Flayers

Special Rule
Sensory Cluster
Phase Tunneling
(All of normal stuff) In addition, it also counts as having a phase shifter
War Construct
Brutal Assault
(All normal stuff) In addition, because of its aggression and size, a Tomb Stalker counts as having Frag Grenades

Options
May replace Gauss Flayers with
Tesla Carbines for free
Gauss Blasters 15pt
Tesla (second weakness Tesla weapon) 15pts
Gauss Cannons 35pts
Tesla Cannon 35pts
Heavy Gauss Cannon 55pts
Tesla Destructor (the one that Arcs) 55pts

What do you think? And base price of 225 for the Frag Grenades and Phase Shifter, 30pts more than the current one.

Every time I see the Forgeworld Tomb Stalker I can't help but think,
"Aww, that's not the titan the described from the Medusa V incident..."

(here's hoping IA12 fixes that?)

I want to think they will make a new funky Necron titan. but i am worried they will default to the "MegaLith" which woudl be

a) a shame
b) HUGE
c) Exorbitantly expensive
