I am a huge fan of LOTR, so I have considered getting into this TableTop game. I already play 40k and I'd like to know if it's worth starting. Also, where do people play this at, I never see anyone playing LOTRSBG at my FLGS.....

Go for it, maybe a few player will appear after you have started. And the moddels are nice, even if you just want to collect them

YES YES YES YES! It's AWESOME, I have many pointages of it all, I recommend building a Good and Evil army at the same time.

I say go for it! They're what got me into playing 40k and I still paint LOTR! What I suggest is picking a good army you like and a evil army you like and collect them both! And if you see a model you like, get it! Models are like cheese; they taste different but they all have a place in ones stomach, I mean heart.

You'll find that a LOT of gamers have a smallish LotR collection stored away in a box somewhere. Just ask around your gaming friends, and tell them you'd be keen for a game or two. Once other players see you playing and having fun, they'll want to start bringing their own forces in for a game too!

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

I concur with most above, have a dabble and see what comes of it in your community.

Any idea's on what you are wanting to collect at all?

Yes, if you love LOTR as much as I do. Buy the models, even if you have no one to play, you can use them to keep your brushing sharp, My Haradrim were the first models I ever gave eyes.

Definitely agree, I think some of the LoTR models are among the best that GW have ever made. Even if you don't play with them, they will be nice to collect and paint.

The game itself is OK - a little simple perhaps, but if you can get two well painted armies on themed terrain, perhaps even play a scenario, it adds about 400% to the overall enjoyment of the game I find.

If I may interject...

I'm in a similar position to the OP and I was wondering how the ally thing works before I invest in some LotR models...

What do you mean? As long as you select a hero/ troops from the same side as you are on. That is good or evil you are free to mix & match. I regulary take several trolls alongside my Easterlings, and I have been known to include a band of Uruks with a Uruk Captain when I need more killoing done fast and cheap.

So, as long as the warbands are from good or evil then they can ally together like Minas Tirith and Dwarves for example...

Awesome!!

Yes that you can make work. A Dwarf army can contain Minas Thirith knigths with a captain, or a Gondor army can have Dwarfs
