I am the only player an the store where I game that I know of to ever field a squad of Legion of the Damned. I know they deep strike and move through difficult terrain 24/7 but they have 3+ invulnerable and are relentless. While terminators are relentless you can't get storm shields for a five man squad for only 35 more points.

At 20 PPM I'd consider them. That's how overpriced they currently are.

Basically what Yellow says. They're 50% overcosted, can be stuffed up by poor reserve rolls and they die against massed small weapons fire as easily as any marine unit.

Sure, a 3+ invulnerable is nice, but people aren't going to shoot them with low AP weapons. They'll just lasgun/bolter/pulse rifle them to death.

I'd take tactical terminators before I'd take Legion of the Damned.

Also, they're being turned into finecast, which means they'll never be bought again.

I wish this would have been a "troops" choice, that is about the only drawback I can see. Why? This is essentially a deep striking sternguard squad that is much much tougher. Not only that, relentless with a plasma gun and a missile launcher? Yes PLEASE!

AND they can reroll their scatter?

The mistake people make is that these somehow equate to terminators, which aren't as shooty since they come with a power fist and cost much much more. (But regular termies and why they are broke is another issue)

Same, the normal SM codex lacks troops choices but has a lot of elite choices.

I actually relate them to landspeeders, which do anything a LotD squad can do, and is fast, for ~1/3 of the price.
Seriously. Figure out whatever weapon loadout you want for LotD, and how much it costs. Then get the same, or better, loadout for a landspeeder, and look at the cost.

And a 3++ isn't THAT valuable- you should be keeping your landspeeder in cover at any rate.
Try, say, a MM/HF landspeeder, for 70 pts. see how it works for you. Better yet, try 3. 6 fast heavy weapons for 210 pts? That's pretty great.

Actually, my understanding is that most people who buy Finecast end up having to buy it again and again until they get a model that isn't gimpy.

Not at all in my vanilla SM army. They are just underwhelming and very situational.

This poll is a bit odd for me to answer, because my entire SM army is a 2nd Ed Legion of the Damned army. Yet ... I never actually take the current "LotD" unit in any SM list I play. Now, don't get me wrong, I like the current unit stats, just hate that my army is lessened if I take them as actual "LotD".
