If a moderator would be so kind as to move this to the 40k Battle Reports forum that would be appreciated. I apologize for posting this in the wrong forum.

I got to play in an Ard Boyz style tournament today with my Necrons. I apologize I have no pictures to share. I have been feeling under the weather and just decided to go when I woke up this morning - a last minute decision. All the missions were straight from the rulebook with 2.5 hours per game. I enjoyed all my games and had a good time. It was definitely worth the long drive.

Here is my army list:

-HQ-
Stormlord
The Traveller - Catacomb Command Barge

Royal Court #1:
Lord - Res Orb
Harbinger of Despair - Veil of Darkness
Harbinger of Eternity - Chronometer

Royal Court #2:
Harbinger of Despair - Veil of Darkness
Harbinger of Destruction - Solar Pulse

-Elites-
C'tan - Writhing Worldscape & Gaze of Death
C'tan - Grand Illusion & Transdimensional Thunderbolt

-Troops -
20x Warrior
10x Pyrrhian Eternal - Tesla Carbine
10x Immortal - Tesla Carbine

-Fast Attack-
6x Canoptek Wraith - 4x Whip Coil & 2x Particle Caster
10x Canoptek Scarab

-Heavy Support-
Annilihation Barge
Annihilation Barge

My army is a mixed list designed to cover all the bases. I like the Traveller because he is relatively a cheap HQ compared to a fully tooled Overlord and offers some good perks such as the free upgrade of one squad of Immortals to Pyrrhian Eternals. I like to field large squads for my troops as I believe they are solid choices and are good at shooting. The Scarabs always seem to do well for me... They either tarpit an enemy assault unit or go after their armor. I have also had good results with the C'tan and think they are a bit underrated. C'tan work well with Night Fight and I have found some armies don't have much of answer to them. It is important for me to protect my troops and the heavy hitters such as C'tan and the Wraiths can usually keep the enemy at arm's length. Generally my opponents have their hands full with the rest of my army and it's rare that anyone can pose a threat to my troops. The two VeilTeks add another layer of protection for them. Night Fight also works for me as a final layer of protection for my troops - it is hard for their long range shooting to target them while my troops can generate a sufficient amount of firepower at midrange. The Annihilation Barges are a great bargain for the points and add some more firepower. Like I said my army is a mixed bag - there is a lot of synergy for me and it is good in all three phases of the game - very balanced in my opinion.

The first round was versus another Necron army. I'll post the first batrep tomorrow.

Thanks reds8n!

: )

Here is my first opponent's Necron army to the best of my memory:

-HQ-
Overlord - Warscythe - Catacomb Command Barge

Royal Court:
Lord (res orb)
Lord (res orb)
Lord (res orb)
Harbinger of Destruction (Solar Pulse)

-Elites-
C'tan - Writhing Worldscape & Lord of Fire
5x Lychguard - Hyperphase Swords & Dispersion Shields
5x Deathmark w. Harbinger of Destruction

-Troops-
10x Warrior - Ghost Ark
10x Warrior w. Lord (res orb)
10x Warrior w. Lord (res orb)
10x Immortal (Tesla carbines) w. Lord (res orb)

-Heavy Support-
Monolith
Doomsday Ark
Doomsday Ark

Mission
The mission was Seize Ground (5 objective markers) and Spearhead for deployment.

Deployment
My opponent won the initiative and picked a table quarter with lots of terrain. He held the Immortals with the Overlord and one Lord in reserve as well as the Deathmarks with the Harbinger of Destruction. Note that he selected my Wraiths as marked for death. He deployed the Overlord in the CCB behind a building fairly close to the center of the table. He deployed the two Doomsday Arks along with the Ghost Ark deep in his table quarter. He placed one squad of Warriors on an objective marker in that area as well and another squad of Warriors over behind a building as close as possible to the central objective marker. He placed the Monolith, C'tan and Lychguard together close to the center of the table.

Here is how I split up my Royal Courts:

Stormlord-Warriors-Veiltek-Chronotek
Phyrrians-Lord-VeilTek
Immortals-Pulsetek

I placed my Wraiths, Scarabs, both C'tan and the Traveller close to the center of the table over to one side with some cover so I could engage his big brick - the Monolith, C'tan and Lychguard - as quickly as possible. The rest of my army I deployed further back using terrain for cover in case Night Fight crapped out early.

The objective markers had been evenly placed around the table with one close to the middle of the board. As it turned out with the deployment of our armies we could both easily hold two markers and would have to slug it out for the central marker.

Pre Game Thoughts
I was mostly worried about my opponent's heavy support as he could lob around three very hurty pie plates. I was counting on Night Fight to protect my units. I also knew I'd have to counter his Overlord in the CCB as it could pose a fast threat to any of my three troops.

I then elected to Seize the Initiative and did so using the Stormlord's Hyperlogical Strategy. Game On!

1st Turn - Me

Movement Phase:
Scarabs move forward closer to the Monolith using intervening terrain for solid cover. Wraiths, the Traveller (flatout in his CCB) and one C'tan move towards the Lychguard in front of the Monolith. The other C'tan heads towards the squad of Warriors over in the central building. Stormlord and crew hunker down behind a building over along my long table edge - they are close to one of the objective markers. The Phyrrians move towards another objective marker. The Immortals move to my left towards another objective marker. The Anni Barges hang back to provide some support for the Stormlord.

Shooting Phase:
Lightning goes off first - immobilized and weapon destroys one Doomsday Ark and wrecks the Ghost Ark. Both C'tan, Wraiths and scarabs all run forward.

Assault Phase:
No assaults this turn.

1st Turn - Opponent
Movement Phase:
Monolith shifts forward along with Lychguard and the C'tan pops out from behind the Monolith. His troops hold their position while the Overlord moves flatout towards my brick of Warriors. Functional Doomsday Ark has to move to acquire a better targeting position.

Shooting Phase:
Monolith spots my Wraiths but the pie plate of death scatters off target. His C'tan runs towards my C'tan heading towards his Warriors over in the central building. Nothing else is in range or can't target any of my units due to Night Fight.

Assault Phase:
No assaults this turn.

2nd Turn - Me
I roll to keep Night Fight going and the storm continues.

Movement Phase:
Scarabs move into position to launch an assault on the Monolith. The Traveler sweep attacks the Lychguard but fails to inflict any damage. One C'tan and Wraiths move into position to assault the Lychguard. Stormlord and his Warriors move out from behind the rear building to target the enemy Overlord in the CCB. Phyrrians move towards the objective marker on my right while the Immortals move towards the objective marker on my left.

Shooting Phase:
Lightning goes off first and destroys the functional Doomsday Ark. Scarabs run up closer to the Monolith. C'tan headed towards the enemy Warriors in the central building runs towards them (should be in position to assault them the next turn). Warriors hose down the CCB with their Gauss Flayers and manage to immobilize it. Anni Barges shoot the CCB as well but inflict no damage. Phyrrians run onto my right objective while the Immortals run towards the objective on my left.

Assault Phase:
Scarabs assault the Monolith and destroy it. C'tan and Wraiths assault the Lychguard and destroy the unit. Stormlord and his Warriors assault the CCB - Stormlord just manages to wreck it... Overlord is trapped inside the burning wreck and dies. C'tan consolidates towards my other C'tan for support. Wraiths consolidate back towards the center.

2nd Turn - Opponent
Movement Phase:
Deathmarks arrive from reserve and deepstrike into position to target my Wraiths. His C'Tan moves towards my C'Tan by the central building again.

Shooting Phase:
His C'Tan continues to run towards mine. Deathmarks successfully target my Wraiths but only manage to inflict one wound. His Warriors in the central building finally wake up and decide to rapid fire my approaching C'Tan but inflict no damage.

Assault Phase:
No assault this turn.

Note:
The game had slowly progressed up to this point and I ask the TO how much time is left... There would only be enough time left for one more turn. My opponent was fielding Necrons for the first time at this tournament so it was taking him some time (not a problem).

3rd Turn - Me
I roll to keep the storm up and succeed again.

Movement Phase:
Wraiths fly over to assault the Deathmarks. Scarabs move towards the Deathmarks as well. My C'Tan moving towards the central building will be in position to assault the enemy Warriors this turn. My other C'Tan makes a move over to intercept the enemy C'Tan. The Traveller moves flatout in an attempt to contest another objective held by another unit of enemy Warriors but is just short. Stormlord and his Warriors huddle up on their objective while my Phyrrians remain on their objective. My Immortals run towards the objective to my left but it's clear that even with a good run they will fall short as well.

Shooting Phase:
I roll for lightning first and this turn no damage. The scarabs run towards the Deathmarks. My Phyrrians then target the Deathmarks and kill a couple. Both Anni Barges light up the Deathmarks as well and drop two more (only one manages to get back up and they pass their morale check).

Assault Phase:
First C'Tan assaults the enemy Warriors in the central building - drops three, takes no wounds in return then kills two more with Gaze and sweeps them. Second C'Tan locks horns with the enemy shard - inflicts two wounds and loses one... Enemy C'Tan then loses another wound due to No Retreat. Wraiths and scarabs eat the Deathmarks.

3rd Turn - Opponent
Movement Phase:
His last squad of Immortals come in from reserve and move towards an unclaimed objective.

Shooting Phase:
His Immortals get a good roll for run and reach the objective.

Assault Phase:
My C'Tan kills his.

The game ends and we both hold two objectives. I should have paid closer attention to the time as I had lots of mobile units and could have easily taken another objective and/or contested both of his. The tie breaker is victory points - I haven't lost any units so I win a minor victory and also grab a bonus point since my most expensive unit is still alive (either of my C'Tan).

There is a big crowd playing at the store and I was worried the minor victory would knock me out of contention for a top spot. I'd really have to step it up a bit the next two rounds.

We take a break for lunch and then the TO announces the pairings for the next round - I will be facing off against the one other person playing fielding Necrons. Ha ha... I really wanted to see how my army would match up versus other codices but oh well those are the breaks.

Just curious why you chose the C'Tan with WW but no Transmog Crypteks? Seems like you need them to synergise with the WW to force the dangerous terrain tests.

I prefer to run VeilTeks so I can quickly move my troops around the table. TremorTeks I've found don't work as well with the Stormlord since I like to keep Night Fight up and running as long as possible.

Writhing Worldscape is good enough on its own, imo, to be worth taking w/o any Tremor Teks. Good report, it is a shame you did not get the win in the first game, it had the look of a blowout.

Also a bummer your opponent did not get to shoot his Annihilation Barges, silly lightning.

Edit: Did he realize he could pulse away your storm?

I got a minor win in the first game. It was decided on the tie breaker (victory points). Of course a major win would have been nice.

It was his first game with Cronz and I think that is what slowed down the game. Even if he had pulsed I believe I could have pulsed right back.

Here is the build to the best of my memory for the second game versus the one other Necron player:

-HQ-
Overlord:
- Warscythe
- Weave
- Phase Shifter
- Mind Shackle Scarabs
Catacomb Command Barge

Royal Court:
4x Lord:
- Warscythe
- Mind Shackle Scarabs
- Res Orb

-Elites-
Triarch Stalker:
- Particle Shredder

Triarch Stalker:
- Particle Shredder

Triarch Stalker:
- Particle Shredder

-Troops-
10x Immortal - Telsa Carbines (Lord)
10x Immortal - Tesla Carbines (Lord)

10x Immortal - Gauss Blasters (Lord)
Night Scythe

10x Immortal - Gauss Blasters (Lord)
Night Scythe

10x Warrior
Ghost Ark

-Heavy Support-
Monolith

The mission was Capture and Control while deployment was Spearhead. My opponent won the roll for initiative and I failed to seize.

Time management is definitely something you have to watch out for in a tournament. Interesting list for your 2nd opponent. I'd hate to go up against heavily meched opponents if I was him. He's got hardly any AT!

Ironically, your opponent's armies look foreign to me even though their builds are much more the norm for most necron players. I'm just so used to assault-crons! Lol.

The second list was interesting to say the least. He could fling around lots of big pie plates but was limited to 24" range. I'm not going into a full batrep on this one as I had Night Fight up and running the whole time we played. My 2nd opponent conceded after the 3rd turn as my melee units hit his back line and was wrecking some serious face. The first two turns he flew up the Scythes which I shot down along with the CCB using my Scarabs to tarpit his Overlord.

The final game was the interesting one versus Sister of Battle with the Saint and three full squads of Seraphims... This was killpoints with DoW deployment... Needless to say I had some concerns going into this match. I had managed to slip up the second table. Mechdar versus mech(dark)dar were facing off on the top table... I was kind of glad I managed to avoid those two.

I don't think shooty footcrons is a competitive necron build. I'm thinking assault crons, tremorcron-hybrid lists, scarab-farm and scythe-spam will be the predominant successful tournament builds.

Sisters have a lot of fight in them and can be quite dangerous, though I think your army has the tools to take them on.

I actually l really like the concept behind the Triarch Stalker list your opponent brings, but I think 2x Stalkers would be better and maybe rock a unit of Lychguard as a counter assault element along with Destro Crypteks to Pulse to protect you Turn 1 and to counter Imotekh or other Night Fight shenanigans.

For game 3 did he have a Conclave with his Sisters? I would love to see one of them pile into the wraiths.

I have yet to see someone run 3 squads of Seraphim, they are costed competitively but suffer from how good Dominions are and the need to Mech up in this edition. I have 20 of them (seraphim) sitting on the shelf myself that I would like to bring out to play in a foot style list.

I am betting the Storm Lord and the C'tan make short work of the Seraphim.

Here's my third opponent's army list to the best of my memory:

-HQ-
Saint Celestian

-Troops-
Large blob of Battle Sister - 2x meltagun, combi-melta
Large blob of Battle Sister - 2x meltagun, combi-melta
10x Battle Sister - meltagun & combi-melta
10x Battle Sister - meltagun & combi-melta

-Heavy Support-
10x Retributor - 4x heavy bolter
10x Retributor - 4x heavy bolter
10x Retributor - 4x heavy bolter

-Fast Attack-
10x Seraphim - 2x pair of melta pistol
10x Seraphim - 2x pair of melta pistol
10x Seraphim - 2x pair of melta pistol

(maybe a couple other units - not sure though)

Deployment
Like I said above the mission was Annihilation (i.e., kill points) and the deployment was Dawn of War. I won the roll for initiative and decided to go second.

My opponent deployed both blobs and Saint Celestian all side by side right up along the middle of the table. The Seraphim were all held in normal reserve and would deepstrike while all his others would come in from reserve using his long table edge.

I deployed my big blob of Warriors along with the Stormlord, one VeilTek and the Chronotek behind some intervening terrain blocking line of sight. I held the Phyrrians (Lord and VeilTek attached) and Immortals (PusleTek) in normal reserve while other units would come in from reserve normally along my long table edge.

Pre Game Analysis
I was worried about Saint Celestian and the two large blobs of Battle Sisters. If I wasn't careful the Saint could get into my large brick of Warriors and wreck havoc for lots of easy kill points. My basic strategy was simple... Protect my troops while using my killy units to hit the Battle Sisters first while tarpiting the Saint. Like I said I had some concerns about Saint Celestain mowing through my troops so I decided if possible to tarpit the Saint with one of my two C'Tan and hope she didn't keep getting right back up each turn. Again I was thinking Night Fight could be my friend.

1st Two Turns - Sisters of Battle
Saint Celestian and the two big blobs of Battle Sisters move and run both turns into my deployment... Very aggressive. Only his other two smaller squads of Battle Sisters come in from reserve on his second turn... I should have noted all his units held in reserve he would roll for - they didn't auto come in on turn 1. The two SoB blobs and the Saint were maintaining a healthy distance from my blob of Warriors for whatever reason. If it were me I would have brought all the Retributors and one squad of Seraphims automatically on turn 2... And I would have moved the Saint and one blob of SoB towards my blob of Warriors.

SoB kp - 0; Necrons kp - 0

2nd Turn - Necrons
Automatically my two C'Tan, Wraiths, Scarabs, Traveller in the CCB, and both barges come in. The Pyhrrians and Immortals both decide to wait it out for at least another turn. I position the Scarabs, Traveller, Wraiths and both C'Tan to multi charge one SoB blob and Saint Celestian. I shot up the blob a bit with my barges and also sweep attack with the Traveller... The SoB blob takes a few unsaved wounds and hold. I then charge them positioning one Wraith with a whip coil to drop the Saint's initiative to I1. A C'Tan insta-gibs the Saint and the SoB blob is dropped to only five left standing. The Battle Sisters manage to cleanly break away so I can't sweep them. I then consolidate all my units forward in such a manner that the C'Tan cut off the second SoB blob from assaulting my Scarabs the next turn and my Wraiths are ready to tackle the Saint if she pops up again. The Traveller is off to my right side ready to jump back in his barge.

SoB kp - 0; Necrons kp - 1

3rd Turn - SoB
All three Retributor squads come in from reserve and one squad loses three Sisters carrying heavy bolters to dangerous terrain tests while running into a ruin. Only one squad of Seraphims show and they mishap due to a bad scatter roll and go back into reserve. The remnant squad of five Sisters burn a faith point and regroup - they have three meltas too - consolidating towards the Wraiths. The Saint does not get back up this turn. Night Fight is still up by the way. My opponent focus fires upon the Wraiths but only manages to drop one... The Wraiths' 3++ save is smoking hot. Also the remnant squad of five Sisters target the Traveller's barge but they fail to inflict any substantial damage.

3rd Turn - Necrons
In comes the Phyrrians from reserve and I deploy them in my far right corner all the way across my long table edge from the Warriors. I line up the Wraiths and one C'Tan along with the Scarabs to charge the fresh blob of Battle Sisters while the other C'Tan and the Traveller both line up to charge the five remaining Sisters. I wipe out both SoB squads with combined shooting and assaults. Scarabs, one C'Tan and the Wraiths consolidate forward. Note that I positioned the Wraiths centrally so they could tackle the Saint if she decided to re- appear the next turn. I'm winning by a fair margin now but the SoB I felt could still make a strong run.

SoB kp - 0; Necrons kp - 3

4th Turn - SoB
I roll for Night Fight again and it stays in play. Two squads of Seraphim arrive from reserve and one mishaps - I place them all the way across the table in a far corner... They are effectively out of action for the rest of the game. Again Saint Celestian fails to show. The other squad of Seraphim land beside my two Anni Barges and destroy one in their shooting phase. The Retributors combine fire and drop a couple of wounds on my forward most C'Tan.

4thTurn - Necrons
In comes the Immortals from reserve and I deploy them close to my Phyrrians... My army has spread out such that if the Saint should re-appear she will require at least two turns to reach any of my troops and two of them can then teleport away to safety. I'm feeling a bit more confident now and move up all my heavy hitters to engage the rest of the Sisters army. The Traveller moves flatout towards a lone Retributor squad isolated from the rest of the Sisters. The Anni Barge, Phyrrians and Immortals all focus fire on the forward squad of Seraphims. Only a couple survive then one of my C'Tan eats them in the assault phase.

SoB kp - 1; Necrons kp - 4

5th Turn - SoB
I roll for Night Fight again and it continues to remain in play. The third squad of Seraphims arrive from reserve, landing beside my other Anni Barge. Saint Celestian again decides to no show. The Seraphim destroy my other Anni Barge in their shooting phase.

5th Turn - Necrons
Again I focus fire on the forward squad of Seraphim and break them... They are below 50 percent and can't regroup. The Traveller dismounts from his CCB and cuts down the Retributor squad in melee sweeping them.

SoB kp - 2; Necrons kp - 5

6th Turn - SoB
Again I keep Night Fight up and Saint Celestian is still a no show. My opponent them concedes.

The game on the top table with eldar versus dark eldar results in a minor win for the eldar and I slip up into first place winning the tournament. I had been worried my minor win in the first round would knock me out of contention for first place but luckily the stars aligned for the Traveller.

Post Tournament Thoughts
My C'Tan and the Canoptek Wraiths were my MVPs. The Traveller and my Canoptek Scarabs also fairec quite well over the day. While I don't consider this as my optimal list I can't complain either. The army is very balanced. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to play some other armies beside Necrons but it was a fun time. All my opponents were great.
