We've just been having a good look at a case for miniatures known as The APC, we've put a load of pictures and info up on the site:
http://gravengames.co.uk/portable-warfare-apc-case-review/
What are your thoughts on this type of case?

Interesting... Hard to go wrong for $15 though.

Seeing as it's not even 2" deep, they'd have to be awfully small vehicles.

...not as small as you might think. A Space Marine Rhino is only approx 1.75 " high, excluding the exhausts which would just press into the foam topper/bottom. Anything taller than a Rhino would have to be done in parts.

It would be great for a skirmish game with low model counts or a smaller scale like 15/10mm. Not really what I would be looking for though, I would rather see a plastic box like a large pencil case or one of those chessex cases than risk something heavy getting placed on top of a small cardboard box. Like Igloo said though, the price is right.

I have a similar box for my infantry and I can fit 72 IG in it but I had to arrange it very carefully myself. Not bad for the price.

Are they seriously charging 15 dollars for a keyboard box with pluck foam in it?

I do think I've gotten boxes very similar at my work, with items packaged in foam plucked to fit their shape... seems this may not have been designed by them, just adapted for a different use?

I know the guy who designed this. Rad gamer with some awesome products. I heartily reccomend after having seen it being used up close.
@ culsander = That would be the obvious. As far as i know, the pluck foam is blu-foam, because that is what PWF uses for its preset loadouts for thier other bags, however as this is a different product, it could just be pluck foam.
In addition, the APC is larger than your standard keyboard box in height.
Blu-foam is quite good, and its worth the money. The box itself is quite long, which means a good couple rows of mini's can fit in it.

Would a Chimera fit in this? My nephew is playing traitor guard and I don't yet have a good feel for the height. This might be a nice box for keeping a pair of Armored Fists in.
The real problem here is it's not too versatile: it can't fit into any other system, and who has an army that's made of an enormous amount of only troops? Maybe Orks.

Normally I wouldn't interject another product on a dealers news topic, but since this was posted in "discussions" and presented as such, I'll proceed.

I don't think a Chimera would fit, as it's over 2 inches high. However, it's not hard to find clamshell boxes or other cases of the correct height and fill them with foam.
If someone is wanting to buy cardboard boxes filled with foam for their miniatures, it may be worthwhile to do it yourself instead.
I just bought some foam from these guys.
http://www.thefoamfactory.com/packagingfoam/picknpluckcr.html
and used it to fill some cases I had that were close to the size of my Plano carriers ...
..but had no padding . It' doesn't look like an amazing deal until you look at how large the sheets are. The 3" should be tall enough for a chimera , though you can always double layers.
Add a sheet of 3mm EVA foam (same stuff that most mini case companies use for tray bottoms and much sturdier than white foam sheet) for the bottoms and tops of the boxes and you're in business.
http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/eva-foam-sheet/
As for the boxes themselves, you can order them in bulk from somewhere like Uline
http://www.uline.com/BL_1404/Literature-Mailers-White-Tab-Lock
or buy them at a shipping company.
Sourcing the boxes in quantities lower than 50 is the biggest hurdle, but it's doable, and can really drive down the cost of miniature packaging.
As to the APC, it's a nice standard size, and that it all comes in one package is a good thing, it's just a matter of whether you want to pay for that convenience or DIY.
