hey probably the wrong bit of this forum but since im not posting an army list i dont think it goes there.

Anyway back to the toipic at hand. im trying to make an assault based salamanders army but since codex marines cant use bolt pistols and chain swords( im planing on having them with a load of different close combat weapons I.e. the weapons the forged on there trials to make it nice and fluffy) what codex do i use ? gona add a bunch of flamers and stuff like that.. I reckon ill like the feel and its fluffy just having problems with 5th ed rules. 4th was fine could just use standard codex with the make your own chapter rules. any help would be appreciated.

ps was planing to put a land raider redeemed in for 1500 points so i would like to use that if possible.

If you're gonna paint them as salamanders prepare to take a lot of heat for that.. salamanders are a c:sm chapter and fluffwise completely different from space wolves. It's your army so do what you like but keep that in mind

yeah im expecting that but i am sticking to stuff they have access any way so i shouldn't get too much flak. though im not sure what the general consensus is for using the wrong codex.

You're fine with using the SW codex for this, if anyone gives you stick for it cast doubt on their sexuality and escape into the night like the funky jazz ninja that you are...

Yes. As long sa you are all WYSIWYG, then it is all good. You can have purple with pink polka dotted Salamanders and use the BA codex if you want.

Except he wants tacticals with pistols and CCW, which you can't really get in C:BA. You can go Assault Squads but then you lose Bolters as well. Your choices are really C:CSM or C:SW. We all know the right choice.

true well the problem is solved gone for sw sorted ma 1000 and 1500 point lists out now just got to make and paint em

Okay, they do everything. (And when I mean everything, I mean they have a good number of builds they do well and are pretty good at customizing.)
What's the problem?

He wants to do something new and interesting with his Salamanders that isn't covered by the original book.
Who cares what book he uses?

If he wanted to do an all bike, all terminator or all jump pack army (or any number of other lists that other books do better), I certainly wouldn't have pointed him at the SW codex.
He wanted a loyalist book that has troops with bolter, bp, ccw. So he went to C:SW.

He wanted an assault list with Bolt pistols and CCW, he never mentioned bolters.

Also you can indeed do an All terminator list with Space Wolves with Wolf-Guard as troop terminators.

His original request was tacticals with BP and CCW. Hence, Bolter, BP, CCW. I obviously interpret that differently than you do. The OP agreed with me on the point after I posted that originally. He wanted the three weapons.

Also, you CAN do that with the SW codex, but it is not the best codex to do it out of. SW do a mix of Terminator and PA well, but not pure TDA.

Ofcourse OP can do whatever the hell he wants but yeah this does not sit well with me either... if he really wants salamanders he should just stick to the vanilla codex IMO as salamanders even have their chapter master represented in it.. It's the OP's money so he can do with it what he wants to but my suggestion would be; don't call them salamanders (and dont give them salamanders heraldry) but just call them green space wolves or whatever catches your fancy. It's silly but it makes a difference

What color and animal he puts on his plastic mans makes that big a difference? Come on.

as long as codex space marine and codex space wolves are not mixed i dont see a problem...... I play blood ravens using the blood angels codex. Am i wrong to do so as they are not a successor chapter? chapters are pretty much just colour schemes.

yes I know I should but in my head with all the flamers and meltas they use having a load of bolters in every squad seems silly. If im gona get that close I may as well use Sw as its the closest to vanilla . No red thirst or the crazy stuff BT get. and yes I know I am sacrificing the ability to use my chapter master.
