I'm considering giving it a try, has anyone had any experience with it thus far?

I'm of the opinion that if your going to put down good money for miniature primer, use the colored army painter sprays.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

If you are just looking to prime Black, White, or Grey and completely paint over it, the .99 Walmart primer works ace.
If you want to basecoat & prime in one go, Army Painter is the way to go; if you don't have an airbrush.
I would recommend investing in an airbrush & compressor if you are serious about painting.

Even if you have an airbrush, army painter can be more useful sometimes depending on what your doing. I had to prime a thunderhawk this past weekend... using an airbrush to prime it just is not practical. For pretty much any model besides perhaps stormravens and land raiders though, an airbrush is plenty sufficient for priming. Of course, thats assuming you have the $300 to plunk down on a starter kit, and an extra $100 or so for new paints ( GW pots are usable, but much harder).

You shouldn't wait till you have a day off to prime anything, because then you have to wait for it to dry on your day off!
Before work one morning, wake up like 30 minutes extra, and throw down a coat of primer on your models and let them dry while your out.

the citadel brush on primer is kind of worthless.
its glossy, really thick, and when diluted by a fraction the coverage is bad and it will become streaky.
sprayprimers are boss!

The only way I would work on a large model like a Thunderhawk or Titan is with an airbrush (for the most part).
Paints: Vallejo is my prefered when shooting stuff thru an airbrush. The new GW basecoat range also works well as long as it is thinned.

Splattered With Acrylic Paint

I've just started painting and bought both GW black and white spray on to give them a try and see which i found best.
The black gave a good coverage but i found the white to be very watery, very patchy and didnt give a good cover at all.
Wether that was me or the paint i dont know.

This tends to be my results as well, but both of those cause paint cracks in crevices quite a bit. The old boltgun metal spray was totally boss, great coverage and very smooth.

The Imperial Primer works very well. But you have to remember a few things.
1) do not water it down.
2) always stir after not using it for a while
3) shake before using always
It isn't as stated worthless, it is useful if you don't want to have to wait hours for spray to fully dry (or have the space to spray). And from my experience it has dried flat and very matt. Covers metal, resins and plastic very well.

SHake the snot out of it before using it, and I've found it pretty good. Dries remarkably stroke-free.

I say no, my brothers got the starter paint set (the new one) and I compared one of my primed models with one of his, and the spray went on more even and much faster and the Imperial Primer looked like black paint. But how GW advertises the Imperial Primer as, good for when the weather out side is bad, is a true statement.

Liquitex Black Gesso = only brush on primer I'll ever use.
+water it down if you want, it's fine
+you don't have to water it down, it's fine
+add white paint to it = grey primer
+indoors friendly
-ready to paint in an hour IF you don't handle the model
-6-8 hours to cure practically

What Davylove21 said. I love that stuff and you don't have to worry about losing detail because the gesso shrinks as it dries. Just don't really glop it on.
