Nice job! I really like the smoothness of the red and the details are crisp as well. Well done.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

Nicely painted, however it kind of bothers me that the sergeant has no hair sculpt, but the top of his head is gray.

Gritty, just the way I like it.

I really like the darker red. Also the color gradient from dark down low to brighter on top is awesome.

Thanks for the comments!

I'm glad people like the red, it took me AGES to get a tone I was happy with. It's a tricky colour...

@ Igloo I shaded them with a darker red to make em nice and brooding – you can see the darkest bits best on the backs:

I think the gold can be made crisp just like the rest of the models.

They are very impressive!

I didn't recognise them as AoBR models!

Those bases are great, how did you do them?

Digging the lovely use of techniques and highlights. Might I ask what colours you used for the body might be starting a BA army (if that is aright with you )

I know what you mean - I used a new product called Rub n' Buff but I need to get to grips with it, it's a bit tricky.

DijnsK wrote:nice but you didnt paint the trims on the shoulder pads and the tacical symbols...

Most BA have all over red pads these days (as per codex). I would have painted the symbols but they're 'joined' to the trim so would have had to paint the whole trim!

The bases are resin, from Dragon Forge. I'm too lazy to make bases like that

Sure thing, although I'm afraid the red is a bit complicated...

(all steps are done with an airbrush, except the wash)

1. First I primed them with Vallejo German Red Brown primer
2. Then I gave them a pre-highlight from above with Vellejo Dark Yellow primer, covering all the upper surfaces
3. Then another pre-highlight with Vallejo White primer, just on the helmets, shoulders and top of backpacks
4. Then an all over coat of Vallejo Model Air Red RLM23 - this is quite transparent paint so the pre highlighted areas show through
5. Then I gave them a coat of gloss varnish followed by a wash made of Johnsons Klear and black ink to fill in all the cracks and crevices, followed by a satin coat to remove the gloss
6. Then I went back over the model lightly with Red RLM23 (midtone), Hull Red (shade), and Scarlet Red (highlight) to tone down the red and exaggerate the shadows and highlights.

Very nice! This is actually the red I want to do my Word Bearers in! I like the darker red for Blood Angels too, far less generic!

Thanks for the scheme you said you did it with an airbrush. Is it worth buying the GW airbrush of another brands airbrush

The only thing I hate about your models is that they are AoBR. I have a thing against them. But that paintjob is absolutely superb. I have always pictured Blood Angels as wearing a deep red akin to real blood and not bright happy red. Ad the paintjob is really clean but still shows a hint of grittiness. Good job on the sarge's face as well. Well done!

The GW spray gun isn't really an airbrush, it's – well, a spray gun – slightly different tool. It won't give you the accuracy you need to do the shading and highlighting, it's only really good for basecoating large numbers of models a single colour. A proper airbrush is a very useful tool for this hobby, but it is a considerable investment. You really want dual action, (press the trigger for air, pull back for paint, so you can control them independently) and a nozzle size around 0.2mm. You'll need a compressor too, cleaning fluid and brush – and a stand is very useful too!

I know what you're saying about AoBR. I almost abandoned these guys halfway through because the models are very static, but I persevered to the end and think they'll look okay as part of a larger army. I have a couple more standard / kitbashed tactical squads to do, then some assault squads.

Yeah, they look okay when mixed in with regular box marines.

With egards to the GW Spraygun... just don't You're better off buying Army Painter sprays if you want to basecoat fast and even.
