ok so the original plan with these guys was to make models that could represent guard vetrans with carapace armour, i wanted to give them a look of having STC equipment but not of imperial origin, and up armour them a bit. to represent the carapace but they kind of took on a life of there own and ended up like this
so first can any one sugest how to make the look less "imperial" and second any ideas on giving them more armour?
Oh and please ignore the painting ive not decided on the colours properly yet, plus ive stopped while i figure out if i want to do any more modeling on them

I think you did a fantastic job! They look great! I really don't feel you need to change them at all. I'd say they look a) like the have Carapace(has to be the Cod piece! ), and b) not very Imperial, yet easily could be called IG. And welcome to Dakka!

I think they look great! Considerably bulkier and tougher than regular cadians, with a lot of smooth rounded edges to suggest the non-Imperial tech.
If you were really keen on a bit more armour, how about a hanging plate from the chest carapace? Something like this gent from the FW site has:
All in all though, ace job! I reckon they serve admirably just as they are

they were mainly made from the SM scout and cadian sets
you cut the belt of the cadian torso add a small packing peice, glue it to the scout legs then fill the gap with green stuff made to look like material (mainly because i cant do armour)
the guns are from the cadian sprue aswell (apart from the plasmas these are FW) you cut the shoulder pads off the cadian arms and smooth it over with green stuff if you need to, cut the barrel and eagle and skulls off the gun. Put the barrel from the scout sniper rifle on the end and use plasticard on the side and as a handle
the heads are pig iron heads from here

this is the best picture ive got at the moment of how they go together

True-scale guardsmen... nice work
simple and effective scheme, nice basing. Excellent! I would recommend highlighting the visors a bit more, but otherwise, get more of them done!

These look great mate. A few highlights will make them even better. If your really lazy you can get a similar effect by just quickly drybrushing a light grey/blue over the mini.
