Hey all, name's Dan.

Been lurking Dakka for a fair few years now, but only now decided to join up. Been playing 40K on-and-off since 2003, when I brought a Tyranid battleforce as a 'well-done' gift for doing well on my GCSE exams.

Since then, it's been one change from the next; I've played 40K, Warmachine, Hordes, AT-43, DUST Tactics, a dozen different boardgames, and a whole host of homebrew and self-made games (I'm the creative sort). Sadly, when I switch game, I'm the type to go in for the whole hog, so I sell a lot of my old stuff to buy new stuff for a new game; the cycle seems to repeat every few years or so.

Alas, I've always found myself coming back to 40K. I no longer play Tyranids, collected a load of Chaos, got rid of them (although I've kept the CSM, who I tweaked/customised to better suit my idea of a Chaos Legion), got a load of old metal Grey Knights who I never really used, and have now started on Necrons (who I've wanted to play since the start, but one of my gaming buddies beat me to it; two of the same army in our small [4-man] group seemed overkill. Now he's switched to SM [whayhey!] so Necrons; here I come.

For Warmachine I play(ed) Menoth and Mercenaries. For Hordes I was Trollbloods. I still keep up with the game, but play very little lately.

Otherwise, I work as an admin and IT support for a small local business; this gives me plenty of time to crawl the web! Thus, my joining of Dakka.

What am I here for? Well, I've been lurking long enough, thought it was about time I joined! Haha.

Now, I'm happy to field questions

Very little at the moment; only started about a week ago, and want to build and paint what I have before indulging in any more (I know what I'm like, the more I have to assemble the less likely I'll start)

Currently I have;
An Overlord, a Battleforce, an extra 5 scarab bases (the last of my friends army) and a Monolith on the way (a gift from another friend who 1: owes me money and 2: loves Monoliths)

I also seem to have two CSM units and a Chaos Lord from my own Chaos days (we've played a few small infantry-only games to get warmed up, but really I'm looking forward to my 'Cron's first battle)

I love assembling models, but there's always cool things I want to do (customising the units, mostly) but don't have the skill. Then comes the painting, and boy, do I suck at painting...

A batrep might not be a bad idea, especially when starting with just the Battleforce gear against other Battleforce's, it'll be nice to see how the GW standard loadout fares against other armies... I think I've got 750 points with just the Battleforce and my Overlord, dependant on upgrades/wargear...

I loves me some implacable killing machines. I've always been a tech-nut (as a child, when I grew up I wanted to be a robot. Still do.) so when I first started I was heartbroken to see the Necrons taken by my mate, so I chose the next best thing; I can't have metal machines, so I'll go 'Nids and play biological machines Alas, that didn't last long...

And shoot they most certainly did! There are few things more demoralising to a fresh-faced teen than seeing his precious 'Nids get blown to bits in no-time flat.

I guess antibiotics are cheaper than Norton Antivirus. And a lot easier to get working!

(Not that I get a lot of STD's.... )

Thanks for the welcome. Looks very interesting, I'll definately have a look over that. Although Mansfield is a bit of a distance away (~75 miles if I remember correctly) we've travelled further for stupider reasons, so who knows how our minds will sway. Thanks for the invite, too!

Welcome to Dakka!!

I, like you, have just started Necrons and, like you, can't paint or customise!!

But, as I'm in Australia, the UNlucky country for 40k pricing (3 wraiths for A$80 (say 50 pounds) ) I had to do some customising - couldn't afford anything else.

So, quick tip: You can make Crypteks really easily without much fuss (and boy, are you going to want them!). All you need is a lychguard/preatorian box, some death mark heads (you may have some left over if you built immortals out of the battle force) and some warrior legs and chests.

I made the Lychguard with swords and boards which left me with the Praetorian backs and a shedload of staffs. All you need to do is trim the back of a warrior chest, stick it on a Praetorian back, add legs and a death mark head, cool staff (which you get to make up as you like) - Done. Just get some good superglue cos it makes it easier. For interest, trim bits of the praetorian backs to make them look different.

Also, don't buy overlords. Just buy the anni/ccb box instead, cos it has an overlord in it!!

Advice that saves me money is the best advice there is! (Plus, I hate the Cryptek's in the box, can't stand the look of them, so this is perfect!)

Thanks for the helpful advice MarkCron (both here and in my Battleforce Bash thread). I might not be new to the hobby, but I'm certainly new to 'Crons, so any helpful advice is really appreciated. Infact, so appreciated that I'm going to add you as a friend (and then stalk you for further advice... )

Sure, the more the merrier!

A friend of mine is going Eldar, and I dilly-dallied with them back at the beginning of 4th edition (still got the rulebook), did a lot of mathhammer and theoryhammer, but decided against it in the end. Now, with my mate going Eldar, I can advice and strategise with him without paying for the models (win-win!). I think we're planning to do some 2 man team-schemes (Crondar, we're calling it )

Ah an interesting combination lol but that could work quite well especially if scarabs work alongside scorpions. If your mate needs any hints about eldar I will do my best to help
