Haha, nice one. Got enough painters but any models to donate would be appreciated. If you contact nick off site he will let you know whats needed.
Kloma, I am not sure. There should be a link on the page unless they have not gone live yet. Again, speak to nick and he'll sort you out.
Cheers guys

So I have decided to hijack this thread with my Ultramarines updates for a week or so.
Remember this is a charity army for HELP for HEROES.
I've primed and bascoated everything now. Using gw Kantor blue for a dark base then working up from there.
Gonna be interesting to see how they work up as I've never done blue before....
C&C as always please guys....

Not much to comment on other than good luck with this, but I figured I'd share a couple of tips for painting Ultramarines:
One thing I think works rather nicely with Ultramarines, and particularly the 4th Company, is to mix a wee bit of green in with the basecoat. If you've familiar with any colour theory, you'll know that shading (or in this case almost pre-shading) with a complementary colour can really add depth to a model, so I tend to paint them with a 4:1 blue-to-green basecoat, then a straight blue, then a highlight blue. The green layer is not visible, but it helps tie in the green of the heraldry and adds deeper shadows. A bit of green in a black/blue wash has the same effect.
White makes an excellent spot-colour. With dark models and large surfaces (ie Ultramarines) using white to add scrollwork, heraldry or other markings and insignia prevents the areas from looking too flat. I make sure each of mine has white on at least 3 areas, usually shoulder and knee pads, and then helmets for vets ect.
Don't know how useful that is, but hopefully it will give you some ideas.

Test the green on something non-important first, as it takes a try or two to get the mix right (about 1 drop of green to 3-4 of blue) but will really help the cohesion of the model. I've seen 4th co green that really jars with the blue unless you get the tone right.

Will you be doing any Ultramarine stretcher bearers, like a homage to the image you sometimes see for Help the Heroes?
Thought it might make a nice display piece to go alongside your squad.

Gonna try it in a spare marine first para. It's just so dark at the moment I'm wondering how to get up to lighter blue on the vehicles

There's two ways of doing it. Firstly, you can go for extreme highlights, much like the GW scheme. This is probably the less time-intensive option as once you get used to where the highlights are going, it's a simple case of ticking the boxes. A good example of this kind of edge highlighting can be seen in this blog:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/blog/900/368000.page
Particularly the later stuff is required reading for any Ultramarine painter.
Also, this one:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/blog/323859.page
The other option is to blend up to the lighter colours, which requires more time and is perhaps less intuitive, but equally effective. The key thing with this method is thinning your paints, as you'll be doing 3 layers minimum, and probably a wash as well. I can't think of any bloggers on here that use that method, but a basic layering/blending tutorial shouldn't be that hard to find. The end result is that you get less severe highlights and a more subtle blend.
Ultimately, both of them look great, so pick whichever one you prefer. It might be worth seeing what the rest of your fellow ultra-painters are doing, so you get cohesion across the army.
Hope that helps.

I can’t help you get lighter. I just do a blue ink over Macragge blue, and it is quite dark. Starting with a Kantor blue should be even darker.
If you want to go darker, check out what RandyMcStab is doing with his Ultras. His stuff makes mine look like powder blue armor that’s been left in the sun for a few centuries. Just different takes on the boys in blue, it’s all good.

Thanks guys, we are going for the eavy metal style used on sicarius so kantor, altdorf and fenrisian grey.
Just not sure how the vehicles will pan out through my usual airbrush techniques.
Contacted the guy who is doing the storm raven so I can keep them similar.

Hey guys just a quick update, I'll put pics up tomorrow at some point.
Got everything up to the main blue now and just need to darken the right areas back down (it is strange having blue marines instead of white on my table) so will do that over the coming days and then its golds and details and done really. If only it were that simple haha.
All progress is on youtube and I would ask people who read this to PLEASE check out the videoes and more importantly PLEASE PLEASE like and share the video to raise awarness of the project no matter what country you are from. Feel free to leave a little comment telling me how imo doing or where you found me, I like to read them on there.
Painting Ultramarines A HELP for HEROES charity.: http://youtu.be/53-jNqAryTY
Last thing, we have plenty of minis to paint to complete the 4th company but are need of some of the larger things such as land raiders, rhino variants etc. If you or anyome you know can donate any of these things or anything you think may help then please let me know and I can sort out a way of getting them to us. Remember, every penny we raise will go to the charity so the more models we have the money we can raise. Tickets are not on sale yet but will be available shortly.
Thanks guys
Martin

So darkening the blue didnt work how I wanted it to and I started from the begining again.
All colours are vallejo model air
Based with Arctic blue then used blue and light sea blue for two different contrasts before covering with french blue for an even finish. I will put at least one more layer of french blue for more consistency.
I next intend to drybrush the highlights in 3 or 4 stages to create a natural shade rather than using washes and then its onto the other base colours.
Not sure how well the pictures will show up the grades of pre shade and highlight but can all you ultramarines players let me know what you think so far please.
Thanks guys and there is a nother video on youtube showing the pre french blue stage if anyone wants to see the effect.
Off out on my stag doo today/tonight so may not get anything done tomorrow due to a hangover. 4 weeks today I sign my life away......I mean marry the woman I love cough cough...

Good rich shade on those guys, and the vehicles are nice and smooth. Coming along nicely.
You should work on your Nurgle army while hungover. That way if you are pukeing your guts out, you can use it for inspiration! I don’t think I’ve ever been to a traditional drink your self stupid stag party. And congrats on the upcoming marriage. You might be signing you life away, but at least all the wedding planning will finally be over.

Quite right about the plann7ng nev and thsnks for the comments on the blue guys.
Was actually home for 11.30 pm and sober for the best part but had a great day and great company. Went karting then for a meal at a brazillian where they just keep bringing you different meats until you stop them or pass out. As a result today has been spent sweating all the salt meat out. Urgh...
Not touched the hobby table today so will get on with the highlights tomorrow.

Right, the highlights worked and are all done. I think I may be finished with the blue paint other than tidying up now. Really happy with how they have come out and looking forward to finishing them off and sticking the marines together.
Well this is for charity so I should be happy but I feel tainted by venturing over to the blue side.
Gonna be a refreshing change going back to white although I'm thinking of taking a break from marines and nids and working on some rotted nurgle...
If anyone can help out I need 2 cockpit glasses for the talons and also the control consoles too.
Thanks guys

Added the details to the lights and done the golds (what do you think about golds?) Plus added the transfers to the talons and rhino.
Still got to varnish the transfers to hide the edges plus do the top hatches on the rhino.
Still need the canopies and consoles for the talons but I'm sure they will come up from somewhere???
Nearly there now, with the shoulder pad rims needed to be done green and then marines can be stuck together.
Lots of pics below so C&C please guys.

Hi guys, been a while since I posted and there are reasons behind it.
I know a lot of you looked at the thread I posted above regarding my new store so just thought I'd share where I am up to with all things currently.
1. The store.
The property I wanted is not available on a long lease anymore as the owner wants to develop in 18 months time so I obviously cant go ahead with that. Its still on the go but need to find a new home for it. This has taken so much of my time with drawing up plans etc.
2. HELP for HEROES.
I have been waiting for bits to arrive for the ultramarines which have finally just got here this morning so I will get them finished by the weekend and oost final pics up so I can move back ti the scars and more importantly the thunderhawk.
3. Commission work and YouTube.
My commission work is starting to get some interest now and enquiries are filterinig through (please get in touch if you are intereseted I any work) so I have been prioritising that as people are paying good money for it. My YouTube channel is becoming more and more popular and takes a massive amount of my time, recording, uploading and watching videos but is a great media platform for the commission stuff so I have had to focus on it.
4. The wedding.
Only 10 days left now (12th July) so there have been lots of late nights with the mrs organising final detail etc
All in all these things have taken my focus away from here but I promise that in the week or so I will be back to regular pics and updates.
Please feel free to visit my channel or pm me on here if you have any enquiries from 1 model to a whole army. Paint, build or conversion. Or all 3. VERY competitive prices and visit my gallery to see the standard of work.
Thanks guys
Martin

Well I got into the hobby groove today and hammered on with the Ultras. Low and behold I have finished them.
Still got to drill the exhaust ports on the rhino and glue the cockpits after varnish.
Let me know what you think guys and then it's back to the scars very soon after I have finished a few commission bits i'm doing.
