Hi guys,

Busy day for me yesterday. I had all sorts on over the weekend so took yesterday off to try and get back on track for the tournament (one day I will not leave it till the 11th hour to have an army ready).

As a result of getting blurred vision I have finished the bikes to a basic tabletop standard and have also started on the tanks and talons.

The overall feel for my Scars is that they have been on 'the hunt' for many years so would not be factory white and as such have a dirty feel to them. I have to still go in and touch a few white areas up and if time permits then I will add highlights etc.

The red on the vehicles is different to normal scars livery as I wanted them to be unique to me and will run this through the entire task force??

Still got transfers to add and the washes for the metallics on the tanks/talons but here are some shots of where I am up to.

Also got to do Kahn and Qan Karro (stormseer) so will probs wash the vehicles then start on them tonight.

It is fair to say that by virtue of starting this blog it has pushed me to complete the army and I appreciate all the input and support people have given me.

More tomorrow??????

Cheers mate. Wanted something different from the norm. Was tempted to do the engine surrounds like yours but then thought of this.

I think the red back will balance the otherwise front-loaded detail of the talons and vindis. Looking good.

Nice looking force there. Should be nice and impressive to put on the table, and the red on the vehicles works nicely to break them up.

Cheers guys. The thought of doing another 50 (ish) bikes depresses me but hopefully the thunderhawk will fit inbtween and keep my motivation going.

Working till past midnight last night (this is like challenge Anneka if anyone is old enough to remember that) and as a result of tiredness I forgot to take photos.

What I have done though is come into work today and realised that unless I have some sort of plan in place I will not finish everything. Therefore I have jotted an actio plan down (yes, an action plan for painting toy soldiers, oh dear) and put projected times next to everything. The plan looks more than it is and if all goes well then the army will be complete within 5 hours work. I will get 4 hours done done tonight which leaves the final prep tomorrow which is Pinning the bikes to the bases and putting on the transfers.

Fingers crossed.....

Probably wont get a chance to post anything till after the tournament now as i'm leaving early tomorrow and my ipad wont upload photos. I had another late night last night (1:30am) but i have all but finished.

I still have to apply transfers and pin bikes to bases but other than that there are a few touch ins to do (the white on pred and a serg is missing guns on his bike), plus put the cockpits on the talons and such, but in general I can take them as done.

These are nowhere near how I wanted them to end up and after the tourney I can re address things like weathering and extra detail etc.

Really happy with the battle aged 'dirty' feel of the army but really unhappy with the stormtalons. I will do better on my next 4 I promise.

I'm not going to win any competitions for painting with these but they should look nice on the table.

Comments and critique welcome as always and I will let you all know I got on next week. Lets hope (and pray) that I don't get too many cheesey players and I have some fun.

Lot of progress. I like the reds on the vehicles. Sponsons and LCs on the pred look good. I wouldn’t have done the front of the talon’s engine in the gunmetal though. I normally reserve that for guns and exhaust.

I know it’s a gripping page turner, and he can’t put it down, but if your librarian doesn’t close that book and pay attention to the battlefield, he’s going to crash.

Hahahaha, brilliant. Although I reckon he is riding with his mind so will be ok haha. If all else fails then he is rocking a sheild etrnal for if it goes pear shaped.

It's a good shout repainting the engine surrounds. I was going to suggest it, but Nev said it and i didn't want to pile onto it

I plan on going to the Storm of Iron. it's the 22nd/23rd of feb. I've not purchased tickets yet, i'll probably get them in a week or two

WOW what a throne of skulls that was. 108 players and only 12 Super heavies. (I managed to avoid them). One guy had a c'tan (nasty as hell) plus a macro cannon.........TFG...........2 revanant titans which fought each other on the last round, turn 1 of player 1 and it was finished....

I played in order

Sons of Guiliman and got a close win. James is a studio painter for GW and you can see his space wolves in the codex and scars in the 5th ed codex.
Ravengaurd and ended up with 1 serg running around doing nothing. Adams ended up passing me his cursed tin of dice as I was the only person who lost to them. (he beat a necron flyer list with 7 scythes with new dice)
Grey Knights was a win for me although to be fair to James he has only been playing for a few months and was a great opponent.
Iyanden list with an Avatar scared the hell out of me initially but the Scars prevailed ad took the victory after Kor'sarro heroically/stupidly charged the wraithknight and made 3 inv saves 1st round but got squished in round 2. .......not without stabbing the WK's foot with a 6 causing an instant death that failed inv. DOUBLE WARLORD DEATH
Final game was Chris Paynes Ultramarines. After a long scrappy battle I handed victory to Chris before game end as I was silly and getting wound up (If you read this Chris then I apologise if I seemed off. I was upset with myself and needed to stop playing) but indeed it was a good game and Chris went on to win best Marine player (doffs hat)

So 3 out of 5 was not a bad result. Would I do anything different????? Nah it was all good and really enjoyable.


Some photos of the battles are below and when I get some time tonight/tomorrow I will put some photos on of my huuuuugggggeeeee Forge World box with lots of goodies (you know about the Thunderhawk but I went a bit FW crazy) that will see me running multiple threads. Marines, Tyranids, Chaos and 30k..........

Nev, I learned that scouting is not always the answer and that titains (played one on the friday night in a friendly) are no match for my small units with mobility. The fact that I threw more melta than a mechanicum factory and a vindicator at it meant that it was a short lived thing.

Z, it really was a great weekend. May do a battle brothers next one......as for the FW I may take some pics tonight. For teasing purposes think of the terminus est, also maybe think of Papa nurgles number 1 son and the rest you will have to wait hahahaha

Nice work getting this army finished so fast, and getting a decent result at the tourney as well. Looking forward to seeing where this goes with added FW goodness.

The Typhon model is beyond amazing. The detail is really good. I'm going tyo magnetize his head options so I can use him as typhus for my Nurgle and Typhon for my 30k Deathgaurd.

Deathshroud and Gravewardens are so much better than my deathgaurd terms and I will magnetise the guns on the wardens so I can use therm in noth 30k and 40k

Deimos patterns will be done in deathgaurd colours for 30k and also useable in my Nurgle apoc army

I really do not know what to say about the Great Unclean One

I will start the thunderhawk soon and continue this thread for the WIP

The Tyranid was given to me and is an amazing part of the old bust series. It stands about 6" high and the detail is so deep.

I will eventually start a chaos threrad seperatley as I have over 8k points to build and paint with some really heavy conversions to do. I will most likeley run them along side this one so that I don't get to bogged down with one project.

Any comments or even suggestions and questions are welcome

Nice haul! Now paint up a bike chaplain, you are obviously sliding down the path into heresy and need the guidance. Actually, with that much stuff “sliding” is not the right term. Galloping maniacally is more like it.

Nev, I genuine just lol'd at that comment. I started to build my chaos army before my scars but got sidetracked with bikes.

You have given me an idea tho. I will run a poll on what to paint next. That will motivate me enough to finish everything and I'll start a chaos wip too. The winning vote on each poll will be the concentration of my hobby time.

First of all I need to find out how to do the poll and secondly would it be fair to add the thunderhawk and reaver Titan to the poll?? Maybe they should have their own poll, sort of a super heavy build and paint off....
