Well after my last thread me and my fiancé went and took the plunge into 40k by purchasing the AoBR set. Now Ian wondering how to go about expanding my orks. I know I'll need more boyz ofcourse but what type? Equipped with what?
My goal is to create a kan wall army as I am fond of the killa kan and deff dread models. So what you guys recommend as core units for a good kan wall?

Well, first you'll need a codex.
99/100 times, you'll want sluggas over shootas, so the black reach boyz do just fine.
I love deffkoptas!
The nobs aren't kitted welll, you could convert them (Power Klaws and Bosspoles to be stuck into your mobs of boyz).
The Big Mek with KFF (Kustom Force Field) is the most competitive HQ, especially for a kan wall.
Don't forget that you can scratch built any ork vehicle! That's what makes them Orks. I used plastic Easter eggs as the torsoes and made some kanz and dreads.

Boyz, lots of them. The AoBR ones are cheap and easy to find.
Big Mek with KFF is a great purchase. It works in Kan Wall, trukk/wagon rush, and, any build of orks.
Nobs box, to go with all those boyz.

The first thing you should buy is a KFF Big Mek. He is the staple to the Kan Wall and is what makes Orks stick around in all lists. When you start to use 9 Kans, pick up a 2nd one.
Then, Boyz. Lots and lots of Boyz. You should be running 60 Boyz minimum. You want Shoota Boyz in a Kan Wall, as they'd be able to do something while they're marching up the board. A Nob with PK and BP is mandatory.
The next thing are 2 boxes of Kans. I highly suggest giving them all Rokkits so you have ranged anti-tank on your best shooters in the list.
The next thing are Lootas. These are very vital support units for the Kans. They open up transports and toss wounds on MCs that would destroy the Kans in combat.

I have to second pretty much everything of what AresX8 has to say.
KFF Mek is a must for a wall. Well, that's not true. It's pretty much a must for all good Ork lists.
Shoota Boyz are the way to go. They tend to work better when footslogging than the Slugga Boyz. You can convert AoBR Boyz but I hear it might take some doing. (I admit though, I have a fondness for four attacks on the charge.) If you do squads of 20 you can fit more PK in there which is never a bad thing.
Rokkits or Grotzookas are the weapons most people like on their Kanz. Kuztom Mega Blasta's a waste. More than 3 Kanz are needed for a true wall.
I have to agree again with the Lootas. They are just great for popping those annoying transports, hopefully within range of the Shoota Boyz and Grotzookas so the tender meat inside has to come out and gets pulped. Since they do not get a bosspole, you may want to run full squads of 15 so you don't have them run off the board after two or three bite it.
If you think about expanding beyond a Kan Wall I'd suggest the Nob box. It's not just for getting a Nob squad. They have tons of great bitz in that box that you can use on other models. Nobz should never footslog as they'll get shot up, but if you want to expand beyond the Kan Wall or plan on Orkifying anything, that should be next.

Daemons - 400-ish (Wife wanted to paint an army so she's working on this one for me. Yeah, she's that awesome.) |
