Hi Dakka,

So, I've only recently started playing 40k, and spent a while lurking on forums before joining Dakka.

Thing is, as a beginner, there were so many terms that were shortened and I had no idea what people were talking about. So, I'm starting a thread to help newbies navigate terminology. If there is slang in your army, let me know and I will add it to the lists below. I'm going to start with Necrons, and a couple of other things which I'm familiar with, but will update sections as you let me know. There are some terms I've seen but I'm not sure I know exactly what they mean - if you can help me define that would be great.

Note that the army list below is in NO PARTICULAR ORDER!

General Terms
Spoiler:

Cheese - The units, special rules, weapons or war gear in your army codex that are, well, cheesy. Generally gimmicky like Necron Death&Despair combos.
MEQ -
GEQ -
MSU -
ATKNF - "And they shall know no Fear" special rule
FNP - "Feel No Pain" special rule
FoF - Fish of Fury - Creating cover for a unit by parking the back ends of 2 tranport vehicles closely together, but leaving a gap to shoot through.
JSJ - Jump, Shoot, Jump - Move during the movement phase as normal to jump out from behind cover, shoot, then use Jump Infantry ability to move during the assault phase to jump back behind cover.

Necrons
Spoiler:

BargeLord - An overlord or named character with a war scythe on a CCB
CCB - Catacomb Command Barge

Kit for an Overlord : MSS Mind Shackle Scarabs SW Sempiternal Weave PS Phase Shifter

MitM: Anrakyr the Travellers "Mind in the Machine" ability

LanceTek - A Harbringer of Destruction Cryptek with Eldritch Lance.
Pulsetek - A Harbringer of Destruction Cryptek with Eldritch Lance and Solar pulse
DespairTek or VeilTek - A Harbringer of Despair with Abyssal Staff and Veil of Darkness
TremorTek Harbringer of Transmogrification (see why we don't type that all the time ) with tremor stave.
StormTek Harbringer of the Storm with Voltaic staff, normally with lightning field.

Death&Despair combo - A unit of 5 Deathmarks and DespairTek

Space Marines
Spoiler:

Eldar
Spoiler:

DAVU - 5-man Dire Avenger squad, to be left on an objective, usually in a Falcon.
Mechdar - Eldar army all mounted in tanks (Wave Serpents and Falcons).
Footdar - Eldar army using Guardian squads and the Avatar for protection. Often used with Wraith Lords or Wraithguard.

Dark Eldar (DE)
Spoiler:

Orks

The most confusing one will be the Crisis Suit configuration names. I thought FoF was a build more than a technique though built around that definition anyway.

Tau (though jetbikes can also do this)
JSJ - Jump, Shoot, Jump - Move during the movement phase as normal to jump out from behind cover, shoot, then use the Crisis Suit's ability to move during the assault phase to jump back behind cover.

Excellent, thanks.

I found the glossary after I started the thread, but I think a little bit of further definition as you have done is more useful.

I'll let a mod know we are doing this - they might just absorb what we have into the Glossary when interest dies out.
