so do you guys keep a backstory on your lords? just wondering if myself and a couple of buddies of mine are the only ones who keeps a backstory on there lords. i write everything down on paper then type it out in old english script , discolour it to give it age. burn the edges a bit. a buddy of mine who plays dwarfs writes down the name of every lord character who beat him in a game in a leather bound journal. basically his book of grudges.

Hey i think this is a really cool! In my area we are all fluff nerds but not to this extent! But we all have backstories for our lords, and where/why they fight. We even keep track of campaign victories with territories taken and lost.

well done fluff players!

The only fluff i keep to is when a unusually lucky model does something amazing for a few times in a row. For example an IG sarge (nicknamed saergent awsome) killing a broodlord and in the next game killing bjorn i will then customize the model to show his prowess so a SM power sword, and nid head with blood staines etc.

May your chest inspire the hopes and dreams of millions.
May your arm girth frighten the elderly, slow moving adults and very small children.
May your gains be plentiful.
Go forth and LIFT.

I have done a back story for my last two armies. I do a one pager, type it out and place near my army during tourneis. I always base it off of some snipet int he army book. I have been told they are so bad that they are good!

I name each of my lords and give them each a back story. I really feel that it adds to the game and since to me whfb is not just a table top strategy game but a little more rp than 40k I think it gives it more of that feel. The games at our flgs for whfb are typically more story based and therefore more along the lines of rpg than just you against me and we meet in the middle.... it also helps as it makes me choose which lord I want to take into battle depending on the battle type we are playing

Same. I have the old dwarfs V goblins start set and the dwarf lord with handweapon and shield is my general. Complete with story background. Coming from a family line forced out of one of the old dwarven settlements to the east of the dwarven realm. He runs a mercenary company/expedition force based from Barak Varr. Most of the time away on forays into lost dwarven holds to recover relics and helping thin out the enemies infesting such places. Or providing the muscle for expeditions abroad to bring more funding to maintain his business further.

It gives some flavor to the force without being too restrictive.

I have a background for my army, but not my lords or heroes. I have been meaning to do this, but have not yet. This is giving me some inspiration to do so!

I have a continuous storyline for each army I've played and they each overlap each other. My Bretonnian Lord started out as a Mordheim character who traveled the world seeking for the grail (he found it in Lustria of all places...), he then returned back to his home territory where he was forced to hire a band of Norsemen mercenaries to help defend his realms, which is where my current WoC leader is from. I have more on my background article here if you're interested:

I love fluff, it's what keeps me in the game when there's still talks of price hikes and tournament support being cancelled. (course those are always present it seems in this game). The funnest part of this game is weaving your own thread into the story that makes up the warhammer world and then carving out your character's legacy at your local gaming club. So much fun to come up with (course it helps that I got my degree in English Literature studies, makes me a bit of a nerd in that area).

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

My main characters are named and are involved in ongoing stories developed by the actual games played.

Some of them have previous histories, too. Some are from previous iterations of armies, too.
