this is just a wee project im working on!, still ALOT of work needs put into it but im hoping to have this finished within a few months!,
i will keep posting up photos of progress and such and if anyone wants to put their input in please do, and i will do what i can to please you with model conversions! =] =]

right lets get started!, (oh one last thing, nothing is finished yet and most models havnt even been primed so please bare with me!)

1st off is my 1st attempt at a Rhinox model!

next was my 1st ogre (WIP far from finished!)

now for my Thundertusk with Custom base! =]

next is my Converted slave Giant...

this last photo is a size comparison between the slave giant and the Stonehorn!

my next purchase is going to be another Giant model and will be converting him into the Abominable Snowman! (giant rules)
and im also trying to figure out how i can re position the stonehorns legs and head! =]

as i said at the top, if anyone has any input to conversions or W/E please let me know and i will consider adding it to my army! (as this is going to be a fun, heavily converted Ogre army)

The rhinox looks really great mate but I'd have to see what you do next with that ogre, I'm not sure the GS wash has done it justice.

LOVE the base for the thundertusk, that's excellent work.

Amazing stuff. Some of the best basing I've ever seen. I like your painting style, it's very clean.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

yeah im not 100% sure what im going to do yet with the Ogre, i hate the way he has turned out, but i will keep thinking ill probably just repaint the skin tone and hope that works! =],

cheers though guys! =], im really happy how the base turned out, and will soon have a full army of bases similar to this! (not all of the bases will be as extreme as this though )

Your painted rhinox and whatever that big thing is .. i haven't played fantasy in a while... look really good.

Your ogre example I'm really not a fan of. You issue is you went way to heavy on the wash, so you have a shiney, and somewhat dirty look. My suggesion is use some very light dry brushing to clean it up. You also could look at highlight the paints, hair, wood - brown, and weapons. it will make the model more crisp to look at.

My only suggestion is to if you want to use the washes, you can consider another color that easier for washes. However, you may want to use this first go as a "base" where you can build off it. To dim the shiny, you could dry brush very lightly the skin color, then go up a stage on the that with the skin color / white with 50-50.. again very light. It will leave you more of a blend, where the wash would be only in the recesses. After that you could black line where the color seperates with a fine tip ink pen which you can get from any craft stores

The basing work is definitely solid and nicely done.

yeah im really not happy with him either, that is a great idea actually, i think i will go try that when im next painting... cheers!
though what do you mean where the colour seperates use an ink pen?
never heard that being used before! =]

You literally "black line" the where the color meets another color with the pen, draw a line where you want one color to start / stop.

What it gives is a clear seperation to the eye, not just a blend from 1 color to the next. It also gives definite depth to the model, and makes the model look cleaner. Using the barrel as an example, you would draw black ink right between 2 wood planks on the barrel, it would give it more seperation. You would do the same thing drawing around the stone where it meets with the wood on the weapon, then on the metal where its joined to the stone.

You are "lining" the model. Adding depth. Once you get the hang of it, you can do it on the orange hair to add some depth and seperation so its not just a slab of orange. It also makes the army look very good from across the table as the models pop more.

Here's and example: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/348837-Colonial%20GT%202012%2040k%20Armies%20007%20Orks.html

My army from this years colonial. Click on either the Deff Kopters OR the Killa Kans. You can use the mouse wheel after you click to zoom in. Thanks again to the gentleman who took / posted the picture!

When you look at the model, see where the tank and the yellow meet? See how's there's a clear seperation? That's black lining. After painting the entire model, I lined all the yellow. The pen cost about $4-5 from Blick Art studios. Look at the front of the Killa Kans shoulders, see the yellow triangle? I lined around it. Visually to the eye you see more of the difference. On the Kopters, the front is tan? Lok at the yellow view finder, lined around the bottom. It ends up looking like a realistic shadow the model "should" have, but doesn't if you don't add it in.

A buddies girlfriend showed me how to do it. It really helped my painting alot, as my models are cleaner then, more more eye popping colors.

Its really easy. Once you get the hang of where to black line for the effect you want, its very fast. This was the first army I did it on the entire army. Once the army was fully painted. I sat with a unit a night and banged it out. Was not bad at all.

Hey guys! Reason I've not been updating this issue to my absence from the hobby while I traveled Australia for a few months, I'll be back doin the project again when I get home in a months time! But for now, I do have a few questions!! Does anyone have any idea how I could re-position a thundertusk or stone horn? And also how do you think a Scottish based army would look? I'm thinking kilts, pipes for musicians, fully ginger army, and due to the snow bases I've been doing on the models, set then as if they are in the highlands of Scotland? Also for all the gnoblars running about I was thinking to make any bottles they were holding to paint as buckfast bottles as if they are a Glasgow mob scouting Scotland haha! Basically just trying to find ways of making the art my own!! I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this!!
