I haven't been on in a long time but I just put some bases together and I thought they were pretty easy so I thought I would share. Here ya go.
[Thumb - blbase1.JPG]
I got these plastic pieces from a .22 case. I just cut them around the size of the base and glued them down.

[Thumb - blbase3.JPG]
After the glue set I cut up the piece to give it a beat up look.

[Thumb - blbase4.JPG]
I watered down some leadbelcher and gave it a base coat. I watered it down so it wouldnt fill in the cut I made.

[Thumb - blbase5.JPG]
I watered down some rhinos hide and only hit the cut up areas leaving some of the original color showing.

[Thumb - blbase6.JPG]
I watered down some skrag brown and dabbed in the rhinox hide

[Thumb - blbase7.JPG]
I used some texture paint for the dirt but you could use any kind of earth for this part

[Thumb - blbase8.JPG]
I put a healthy serving of fuegan orange shade on all of the rust areas and let it drip down to discolor the dirt around the edges.

Interesting bases, not to sure they say badlands to me though.. They could be a industrial look to them.. Also the bare base inside the holes could use grass or some texture..

Good to know. I guess it can be both for sake of our conflicting visions eh? The holes won't really show much when the figures are glued on so I thought it best to blacken those areas. Maybe grass growing up through the holes might look ok.

I don't really know because I've never played. These are the bases that came with them. I honestly know next to nothing about the game itself.

Greyknights do have round bases, fantasy uses the square ones.

If they came with square ones you got a mispackage! They should come with the 40mm round bases. If you go back to the store you got them from (or call customer support if you ordered them online) they should replace them free of charge (they wont ask for the old ones back either). That said it shouldn't matter too much unless you enter tournament play. I would have no problem with playing against you!

Nonetheless these are nice bases! The holes could do with something in them though, whether it would be dirt or grass. They do have a nice, weathered industrial look to them though!

These look great and simple to make! What's a .22 case?

A .22 case is what's used to package .22 calibre rounds. 'Bullets' in the common tongue (although a bullet is the projectile fired from the gun, not the whole piece of ammunition itself)

This is an old thread, but I think the OP used a piece of plastic from a box of .22 calibre bullets. You can buy them over here, but you'll need an FAC.

If you really wanted some, you could source out your local gun club and ask them for one. I know at ours, we use millions of .22 rounds so there should be no shortage!

For anyone with a friend who works in a lab, ask them for an old "pippette tip box insert." It looks almost identical to this, and labs are always throwing away old ones. Plus, they're always completely sterile (or at least should be), so there shouldn't be any risk associated with using them for modelling!

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Exactly. They come with boxes of ammunition. I shoot about 5-600 rounds a week. I'm working on a design for some structures for terrain.
