I'm starting a new LOTR army and there is 2 armies that Im going to choose between. Either The defendes of Helms deep - Haldir + Galahdrim warriors and Theoden with riders of Rohan. Or...................... Grey company led by Halbarad. Other leaders will be rangers of the north.

Staying on target.....

That's easy, for me could only be haldir helms deep/theoden + riders purely for thematic reasons.

Really? I find that most people on the Lotr forums in Dakka, seem to really like Rohan. Brother-captain Scotti and I both have a Rohan army.

They're great though, although Gondor might be better balanced I think Rohan has good point value for what you get.
(they also look nice ^^)

It's easy and not to expensive to obtain some Rohan stuff and to build the helms deep from that shouldn't be to much of a problem.
When are you going to decide? Can't wait

yeah that's true but I suppose it counts for something. Also means I know more people liking Rohan rather than disliking it. Some mates of mine also have a Rohan army and met some people in GW as well.
So I will rephrase the sentence.
In my experience when people don't play an evil army they tend to go for Rohan since the new rulebook, but then again in my experience
I don't have a lot of it ^^ so that's probably why.

Aye this seems to be the case. if I may go out on a limb, they seem to be the Sm of LOTR due to the fact that they can murderball anything ob the board. In fact the army I would LOVE too see around here would be a Mordor army, or a Misty mountain army

I love my Haradrim. I think when my bday rolls around in July. I'll get a box of Corsairs of Umbar, since they have metric-gak tons of old LOTR stuff at my shop.

It would be acceptable if I painted one differently and called him the Cap'n eh?

Ahh...Corsairs...the nightmare of those who didn't get priority and thus, can't charge...Many times have I seen them shred all. Go for it!

And I usually paint the base or model a little differently and call it a captain! I've never had a complaint about it.

Most people have opted for Rohan so I think I will choose them. All thats left now is to get the kingdoms of men book, make an army list and get the models. Do you think I could convert my Eomer into Theoden? Also was Eowyn at Helms deep? I can't remember'.

Rohan seem to be one of the most popular/most fielded armies as far as I've seen/read.

Take the recent LotR edition of Tale of Four Gamers, for instance... the armies chosen by the participants were:

- Gondor
- Rohan
- Mordor
- Isengard

*yawn*

And here I was hoping for something a little more original like Grey Company, Angmar, Dwarves, Wood Elves, Harad, 2nd Age Elves/Men, etc

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

Not to sure how you would go about converting him and yes Eowyn was at Helm's Deep, a couple of other posters (Sharazard and Brother-Captain Scotti IIRC) have the limited edition heroes of helm deep Eowyn in the dress, you could check their blogs for it.

I have the Eowyn model in a dress, I think my army will be Haldir with 12 galadrim warriors, 4 with bows, 4 with shields and 4 with spears. Theoden and 11 royal guard with horses( 1 normal rider with a banner) and finally Eowyn with rohan infantry with any spare points left to be spent on more riders. I'll try and post an actual list tomorrow.
