Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Those imperial beastmen are homebuilt from Catachans and fantasy beastmen boxsets.
While Rogue Trader era 40k did have Imperial Guard beastmen and the current rules dont you can make 40K beastmen Guardsmen here and now.

I am not sure if GW ever had actual beastmen 40K miniatures except on the old Necromunda style EPIC IG sprues.

As for squats. I still got my army.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Yeah I think that Beastman sargent is a modified officer from 3E.
The old-school gretchins are "the gak". Man, those models take me back...

Actually they might be orks. I don't really care.

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

Shouldn't this be in Dakka Discussions? Wargaming topics don't belong in the OT section!

Personally, I love Rogue Trader stuff. One of these days I'd like to get a copy of the book. I really like some of the RT-era Space Marines, they've got tons of character. Some of the old Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Warrior minis are awesome as well.

But holy crap, those pygmies are terrible on so many levels.

I had a Slaan army, back when, heavy on the pygmies. I mean WAAAY back when

I had a fimir force

I had Squats with beastman IG support and Thudd guns/Mole Mortars.

I had a few of the old Imperial Robots, back when you had to write a pre-game program for them

I had a purple pimp-mobile riding Stealer Cult (and i really miss them.. :( I may have to collect another one bit by bit someday)

I had a Cathay/Nippon WHFB mini-force.

I had a Kislev one too

I still have heaps of those old grots in my Waaagh, along with some really ancient and fugly (but awesome) old ork models.

Damn, now i'm coming over all sentimental.. where did i put my credit card ...

Hah, I've got a some of those beastmen. Currently use them as penal legion proxies.

I suspect we'll see the Robots, or Legio Cybernetica, return. FW's Contemptor Dreadnought's back story references them and FW have indicated that they'd like to look at re-doing the robots.

At one time, they did penitents (penal legion) and suicide bombers (and they were the good guys, too.)

The penitents had explosive collars to prevent them running away.
The human bombs wore explosive harnesses - they ran at the enemy and went *boom*.

Ah shame this has moved from the off-topic section, looking at some of the people posting it was like "so wait, you guys like miniatures?"

Good lord, those things are hideous! I'm glad they're all gone.

There were still some beautiful sculpts around back then, and let's face it many of us wouldn't be here now (and neither would GW!) if someone didn't like them!

And back then there was an emphasis on quality. Contrast the introduction of 'white metal' with what has happened with Finecast.

The figs your referring to are from a completly different game then the one that is currently ripping people off and taking thier sweet time to put the games back into games workshop.

others that come to mind are the commissar training squad, Ogryn squads, and rough riders.

Those old school IG had a unit of basic whitescars, who in these troubled times of 40K, would be a metric gak ton of cadians, with white stips down thier helmets.

The Orks had Goff Rockers.

Chaos had Slannish Noise Marines, and They had some really sweet Khone Blood Engines, as well as the fabled Armorcast Blood Couldron tank( think it was called)

Back in days of Yor, you had to make your own vehicles.

I miss the various Ork vehicles, as well as 2d edition orks with thier wacky racer weapons of dumb. The squg catapult, the zzap gun, the bubble chucka, the shock attack gun, the use of minions as ammo, the bases of snotlings that you could run across the table, and use as snot waves, bumrushing the enemy with 4 attacks... each.
4X 40 went a long way.

etc.etc.etc.

2d edition was good stuff for what it was.

Grots need weapons such as the las gun, or the stub gun, again, as well as autoguns.

Other ones that come to mind was the 1st, and second edition cyberorks, and wierdboyz mobs.

and the khorn stormboyz.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

And chaos dwarves are still around-you have 3 from the Hellcannon and Warhammer Forge is fleshing out the army-but even if WF wasn't making them, they still have a part and are useful in the Warriors army. I'd enjoy seeing them making a full comeback that isn't expensive as hell though-I'm a big Chaos fan in all it's parts, and I might actually give them a go if they 'officially' came back.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

There WAS a thrud miniature.
The Thrud Graffik novel (collection of strips from various WD when it had a cover price of 95p) had an advert for it.

Several other miniature companies have made pinhead barbarians since (or maybe it was just they were using a realistic scaled head on a "heroic" scaled model?)

Actually thinking about it now, was pinheaded Thrud the inspiration for the much-lambasted art of the Grey Knight that appeared on the cover of WD some time ago?

Used to really enjoy his comics though in WD each month.

What kinda deodorant do you use? Is it the Lynx Affect that brings tears to your eyes? (sorry, easily amused)

I wonder what GW store staff would say if you brought one of these babies to your local store as part of your army..... "yeah, its a WYSIWYG transport vehicle, Ultra Clean Marines )"
