Subject: Taking the "It's my right" argument a little too far?
So opinions on how this situation went down? I'm finding that the person taping this was simply using the fact that she has right's to be a complete .
Also I find the presentation of the whole video very one sided. A example where she claims in text that she was shown the sign saying no right turns. Would have been prudent to show the bloody thing on video if she was justified in her argument.
I have left a comment stating that I think she was being deliberately difficult with the officer and it's "pending' approval. censoring any naysayers is a stellar way to get people on your side IMHO. If she responds to my comment I may post it.

Totally brought it upon herself by being difficult, and to claim that as police brutality is an insult to anyone who has actually been on the receiving end of police brutality.

No, she brought it on herself by committing a traffic violation. She is right that she doesn't have to roll her window all the way down to conduct a traffic stop, she doesn't have to be a dick about it but she was. If she wasnt such a douche a bout it the motor might have continued the stop, I get the impression he would not have anyway, but I like to give him the benefit of the doubt.
@OP There IS taking "it's my right" too far. You can flex your rights to a point but it is pretty essential to be polite as well. She was being a total douche and if I was making that stop as soon as I got that kind of attitude I'd be perfectly willing to wait for my supervisor, dogs, tow, and whatever else to make her miserable.

I don't doubt that she acted within her rights, but she was being deliberately difficult and escalated the situation needlessly, did she honestly expect the police to go and tear down a sign and bring it to her just to prove her wrong? And how many times was she asked to get out the car without doing so?(don't know the law regarding that stateside, do you have to comply?) The cop seemed a decent enough chap, although that may have been contributed to by being filmed.
I myself reserve a special type of hatred for power tripping, bully police and have met a few in my time, I didn't see anything approaching that here.

That nonsense about only rolling your window down the quarter inch she absolutely has to may or may not be law, but it doesn't change the fact that you're making this harder for yourself and the officer. You may have a right to be a disagreeable ass, but that doesn't mean you should be.
Her insistance on then sitting inside her car and at the same time demanding officers show her the sign she violated is almost zen-like in its stupidity.
Her claim of racial profiling is absurd. There is a genuine issue with racial profiling, when it comes to accusations of theft and the like. But for making illegal right turns? Every time some clown makes a ridiculous claim about racial profiling, it makes it harder to establish every genuine case.
Also, her argument that he must be able to hear her because she can her him reminds me of little kids who think think when they close their eyes you can't see them. The cop has street noise to compete with, you stupid woman.

You have a strange country over there. I mean, it's a speeding fine, you give your details, you get your speeding fine. All this stuff about policemen bullying you into vaguely defined something and you not rolling your window down is just nuts.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I actually understand why she did that, even though I don't agree with her being a dick to the officer.
Given that there are so-called "people" out there that prey on those who trust police officers by dressing and acting as police so that they can get the person in a vulnerable position to kill them, steal from them, take advantage of them, or any combination of the above, I completely understand things like not rolling your window down much (thus making it harder for a potentially fake cop to grab you) and asking the officer to allow you to call 911 to verify his/her identity. Most police officers will understand, but you still need to be polite about it.
There's no reason to be rude to a real cop, and being rude to a fake cop might just make them behave more dangerously.

I thought that, you can skip lots of it because there is quite a bit of all happening, theres maybe 5-10 minutes of actual stuff, and lots of a cop stood by the car waving at her.

Seems a bit.. excessive. I mean, If your not a moron, and you aren't, I reckon you could spot a fake cop a mile away if he pulled you over. The vehicle for one!

I notice that many people are having a problem with me for being black and femail and standing up for my rights because they feel that as a femail and a black womyn I should not be able to do neither

After reading her incessant use of the words "womyn" and "femail" she falls into the "too ridiculous to take seriously" crowd as outlined above, and I think she was needlessly belligerent.

I'll happily be the first person to lynch the police in the court of opinion, but from the first 5 minutes, it seems like she's clearly picking a fight. Didn't watch beyond that because if you're going to poke the bear, you deserve what's coming to you.

On the youtube page there's an "As Seen On..." link that leads back to Dakka.
If you're going to exercise your rights at a traffic stop, don't be a jerk about it. Don't argue with the cop, don't refuse to follow official orders ("step out of the car," "license and registration please..."). If you think they're doing something wrong, ask for their name and badge number.

Agreed, she was being a total bitch about it. I really get annoyed by people that push police officers like that, and they wonder why cops are jerks. Every time Ive dealt with an officer Ive been calm and collected and everything was fine. Once I was walking out of a rest stop, and a group of football players were looking for a fight with these group of kids in the parking lot. Well the kids peeled off as soon as I walked out, and since I looked to be the same age as them (I was like 17ish) they thought I was with them, and there was like 5 of them. So they started after me, and I took off like a bat out of hell. I didnt notice I cut off a cop and easily broke the speed limit. After I turned into a near by neighborhood, the police officer pulled me over and asked WTF that was all about. I asked if I could step out to try and catch my breathe. He did, so I calmed down for a moment and told him exactly what happened. The guy let me off and just reminded me not to panic like that again. When in reality I should of gotten into a whole heap of trouble. Calm and collected folks.

We are paranoid...I like it; but I'm on the extremely paranoid end. Believe it or not cop impersonators are not unheard of. This very month in Missisipi one has shot two people. They can vary from laughably easy to spot to near unrecognizable from the real deal. As far as the vehicle goes police departments often sell their old vehicles at auction making it a little easier to match them. They are also all (with the exception of motorcycles and Swat/Hazmat busses) domestic cars that are relatively easy to obtain; the hardest part is the lights:
http://www.extremetacticaldynamics.com/index.php But the can also vary from what you traditionally think of as a cop car to patrol cars with no light bar, unmarked, trucks, etc. In North Carolina the HP uses unmarked cars of every shape and size.
Just to give you an idea these are all just from one department.
Spoiler:
Part of the issue is that "close enough" of often fine because a lot of people lack attention to detail.

I've never really had a bad experience with police officers, with a sole exception*. I've only interacted with a few but all have been helpful and professional, whether it was giving me directions or speeding tickets. I did have a lot of cops in my family when I was a kid which reinforced they were there to help you. Also, NYC was having a pretty serious crime wave when I was a kid and I think the focus was on actual criminals over harassing the populace-at-large; I believe that was amplified with Giuliani.
*The sole exception was when I was around 17 and lived in the suburbs. There was this one specific cop who was known to harass the local kids on power trips, and once when rousting us from the public square suddenly started jabbing me in my chest and screaming he's been watching me and he's got his eye on me - that sort of stuff. It was very bizarre and I had no history with him (or even really knew who he was at the time) previous to this. A few years later he ate his service revolver so his mental stability was pretty questionable in retrospect.

Ever heard of plainclothes cops?
Locally, it was only recently that the regulations were changed to prevent plainclothes police from pulling people over.
It might still be the case that they are allowed to do so in certain areas of the country, and even if it isn't, it's still a safe bet that if you're pulled over in a rural or isolated area, that you should check to make sure. More likely than not it's a real cop, but personally, as a woman, I don't want to risk it.

Yeah of course Melissia, but that dude was in a patrol car, geared up with his comms equipment and weapons and stuff! Obviously its normal to be wary of a guy in plain clothes with a badge.
Regards the nay sayers who simply think she is bad at spelling.. Ill have a tenner I'm right. When I was in Ganners we used to get wellfare books shipped out in crates and I read so much ridiculous gak you wouldn't believe it. The funny thing was, we live in such a PC country even though our organisation (RM) is 100% male, and the armed forces are 95% male, the crates would be literally like.. 60% chicks stuff. And stereotypically chick stuff to boot. Anyway, being a voracious reader and having nothing left to go at, I got half way through a ridiculous book about "Why feminism matters" and yeah, the extreme chicks spell woman/women/female without the words male, man, men in on purpose, and her grammar seems fine.
