Hi,

As the title says really, there is no IG Griffon for sale on the GW website. May have been like that for a while but never looked at IG stuff before, is it common knowledge as to why? If so anyone wanna share?

The Griffon hasn't had a model sold by mainstream GW since 2001 IIRC. Currently there is only a Forgeworld model for it.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

It's never had a model besides the forgeworld one, IIRC. The same is true for most IG artillery pieces. One would imagine that making all of those vehicles would be less than cost effective for GW.

There are quite a few things you won't find GW models for, particularly when it comes to wargear and options. IG aren' alone in this, either.

Why? Beats me. Probably money, more profit to be had designing models for other armies/units to sell.

...unless the contrary holds.

The Griffon had a mainstream kit in 2nd up through early 3rd ed, they dropped it along with the Leman Russ Exterminator kit in early 3rd edition. As such, only Forgeworld has made a model for it since then.

This is your only real option:

Otherwise, you are building a Chimera conversion from scratch (or if you can find one of the rather rare FW conversion kits that they use to produce for the Griffon).

This man has the right of it.

The Griffon was a metal/plastic kit and was removed when the Exterminator was removed from sale (as Vaktathi noted a bit later) as well. Supposedly we're going to see a Griffon/Medusa kit, as both of those are still "FW only" models for the time being alongside of the Hydra.

Thanks, didn't realise there hadn't been one for such a long time. I was sure there was one but I was going back a long time.

Seems daft really as all the vehicles that use the Chimera chassis you would of thought would be a relatively simple kit to produce to fit all across the board. (See Rhino)

Whilst I like the look of the FW one, didn't the old one have the two gunners at the back loading shells? Not sure which I prefer really, suppose its less painting if I have no crew.

For that kind of money though I think I'll go for a Manticore instead.

Kinda surprising the Griffon kit no longer exists. Can only assume it didn't sell well enough to survive the transition to plastics since its 2nd edition components were metal.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

It didn't even have rules in the 4th ed codex if I recall correctly.

For some reason I keep imagining the OP having just come out of a 12yr coma to discover a very strange and different 40k world where griffon models no longer exist. Still, you're probably better off just converting a chimera or basilisk model into a griffon. Will be cheaper than the FW model and probably more fun to do if you enjoy converting stuff.

Entirely possible. I never played 4th edition as it existed at the most busy point of my Marine career, lol. By the time I came back to 40K much of my IGuard army was no longer legal, haha.
