Well I'm 14. Halloween's a long way away. A friend of mine built a Black Legion Space marine suit out of cardboard and it came out beast. Well I was thinking of doing Blood Angels(My starting army) but I don't wanna copy him so I'm going for Death Krieg. In the future I plan on making an army of them. Anyways, what would I need? I know I need a gas mask, which I think this would work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Israeli-Military-Gasmask-Gas-Mask-Black-Adult-Army-Mask-Hose-Filter-/320911851203?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab7d63ec3

Not that exact one, due to the price, etc. Just a model of that kind. And I don't know about the helmet. What else would I need?

The helmets (and the uniforms for the most part) are based on French World War 1 uniforms. See if you can find stuff like that via army surplus stores.

I might be mistaken, but I thought they were modeled after German WW1 soldiers, hell Krieg is even german for War.

They're sort of an amalgamation of France and Germany in WW1, but their helmets and coats are predominantly based on the French uniforms of the time. Some of the studio paintjobs are even wearing baby blue coats, which was the color of the French for some of World War I.

Fixed that for you.

DKoK are based on German Empire from WW1, so use their uniforms.

Nope, common misconception. You've also apparently never seen a German helmet from World War 1.
Their helmets are nearly identical to these French ones:
Spoiler:

And their coats closely resemble the French coats:

(couldn't find a better picture than a model kit, but note the buttoned back area on the coat, and the blue color that some studio paintjobs are in)
So while they do incorporate some German uniform elements, they are based more on the French despite their name.

???

Their uniforms are nothing alike, the helmets are totally different and French uniforms were blue not grey as Krieg uniforms are.

Krieg are Imperial Germans from WW1, not even a trace of French and Belgian in them.

P.S. I see French WW1 military uniform a LOT of times since our army used them as of 1917 after they formed Solun's front. They are not unlike Germans at all, especially the helmets. And that is French helmet picture that you posted, not German. German helmets are much like WW2 ones.

Their helmets have more in common with French ones, namely the ridge down the center. They've been painted in green, grey, and grey-blue:

As I said before, they're a combination of French and German uniforms. Their helmets share more in common with the French helmet and the late German Stahlhelm, not resembling the Pickelhaub helmet at all. The coats have the thin overalls from the French overcoats and the pants from the German uniforms. As I initially said, they're a combination of the two.

As others noted, the DKoK uniforms in general are a hybrid of WW1 German and French uniforms.

As to particulars:

The webbing/harnesses, helmet shape (the very distinctive Stahlhelm shape) and gas mask are very much German.

The boots, coat, pants, puttees (Germans didn't wear them), etc are very close matches to the French WW1 uniform, with the crest on the helmet also being a nod to the crest on the French Brodie helmet.

Those helmets don't look like French at all, the only resemblance to them being that line at the top of it. Either way, Kriegsmen have much more German then French in them - just like Cadians have more American then German or Soviet in them.

Primarily the head/face area. The gas mask and helmet are very German, and given the way people identify other people, those are the most noticeable characteristics. However most of the uniform itself (coat, pants, boots, etc) is a very close copy of the Poilu's uniform.

The uniform is inspired by German and French uniforms of WW1, but the helmet's edge and armies name are clearly inspired by the German army. If you walk like that, almost everybody in the neighborhood will think it is a Nazi uniform. Not sure if you are fine with that impression by your neighbors.

The biggest mistake that anyone can ever make is to assume that GW outright steals.

Everything in 40K has influence somewhere, but it's always an amalgamation, not an outright copy. The Kriegers are a combination of WW1 aesthetics, not one specific one. Anyone trying to argue that they are specifically Germans in Space are flat out wrong.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Maybe the average American neighbour might not be familiar with the subtleties of French WW1 uniforms: If they see the typical stepped crest on the helmet, they call it Fritz, not Pierre. If they hear Krieg, they don't think of Paris

The Stahlhelm that the DKoK helmet is patterned primarily after has a significance that most people immediately associate with Nazi's. Yes, it goes back to WW1 and has a lot of other history, but that distinctive shape is just ingrained in people to associate with that one thing. It's part of what kept the design from being used by others until the mid 80's and even then was still somewhat controversial in places.
