If I shoot at a unit and wipe it out, can I assault a different unit during the assaulting phase?

My read of the BRB says no, but that doesn't seem right.

You read your BRB correctly.

You are correct with your no.
You can only assault what you shot at. (or if you didn't shoot)

Apart from page 67, when you shoot at and destroy a transport vehicle, you can assault the contents

This is the only exception

Bummer. That's the way we played it, but seems a bit unfair. My immortals were standing around like pork chops saying shoot me!

They shouldn't have wiped them out (their target) with shooting then.

You don't HAVE to shoot with EVERY model in a unit in your shooting phase, but those that DO, fire at full effect.

5 What can you do?

Thankfully I didn't role saves like that!

We house ruled this so if you do wipe out a unit you may assault another unit with a successful Leadership test.

Previous editions allowed you to shoot one unit and assault another. This was a deliberate rules change.
