I should be getting my hands on a cheap skaven army soon. Which brings up the question, are stormvermin worth taking over clanrats and slaves? I know someone who swears by them+Queek, but another couple of people tell me that they aren't worth taking.

Well, my brother plays skaven, and runs 40 of em with queek. Pretty pricey, but they hit as hard and fast as chaos warriors in CC (not as many attacks however per model)

It is a pricey unit, and still T3 4+ sv. So it all depends really. If you fight a lot of gunlines, prob not worth it. If you fight a lot of CC heavy armies, might be worth a go.

T3 5+ where it counts. Shields only help against shooting and for the price on a 40 rat unit, you could be half way to another Slave horde.

But 30 S5 I5 WS5 attacks + Queek = dead things in CC. Bolstered by magic and you have one hell of a deathstar (by skaven standards) that's only really weakness is chaos warriors and their ilk. I run 50 orc big uns and I still wouldn't want to charge that without sufficient support. Combined with things like the dreaded 13th spell, its pretty damn good. Unless you fight a gunline...

I was referring to the price of the shields, not the SVs themselves.

40 Shields buys you 20 Slaves.

In anycase, if used properly with the right support, SV can be pretty awesome.

They can, I use them myself.

I was just saying that shields aren't worth the cost on them since it doesn't work in combat. Plus your SV should be screened from shooting before they make it in.

Do I have to say it? I guess since nobody else did...Storm Banner. It's an auto include, and I'm pretty sure only Storm Vermin or the BSB can take it. And it's worth it.

Not to hijack your thread mister TheDark but i was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on stormvermin pushing a bell.

Haven't tried it, honestly, but they seem like they'd be good candidates. Lots of the Bell's results push the unit towards CC or augment the pushers once they're there. Stormvermin > Clan Rats in CC, even if they are more expensive.

The trick is, Stormvermin need to see combat to justify their price. The Seer on a Bell, on the other hand, would really rather not see combat; in combat he can be singled out and killed. So there is a need to balance the risk to the Seer versus the type of target the Stormvermin need to hit to make them worthwhile.

It can be done, to be sure. Just don't run the unit into, say, Greatswords or other hard-hitting units that would make short work of the Bell.

I use Queek and his stormvermin in most every list. I also do my best to use a greyseer to cast Death Frenzy on them. Then you see the look on your opponents face, priceless.

I have decided to run them in my list because:
-They have armour
-I kind of like the models
-Storm Banner

And an off topic point here, I have decided to theme my skaven on Rocky Horror. And when I say theme, I mean Grey Seer as Frank-N-Furter, and Rat ogres in gold hot pants, warlock engineer as the handiman and woman who sing the intro in Timewarp etc. Will this in fact Bite me in the ass?

After going thru all that work and not being able to sell them, you might be singing Timewarp. But ultimatly it is your decision, I like it and love the movie as well.

If I do all the work, I won't be selling them!
