I'm getting ready to drop some money on building a Necron army.
Moneys limited so I've created like 10 lists then narrowed it down to this one.
I'll be playing mostly space marine (blood angels, vanilla, grey knights.) armies plus a few others.
(1 each: Ork, TAU, Dark Eldar, Nids.)
I know the Nids will likely walk through me with there deepstrike/infiltrate units so I'm not really
Worried about balancing for them. Mostly an accepted loss there.

Here's my list:

HQ: 270pts
overlord +warscythe+Command Barge (Tesla Cannon.)
Cryptek:HotDestructio+Sular Pulse(leads warriors)
Cryptek:HotStorm+Lightning Field(Leads Immortals)

Troops: 240pts
8 model Warriors (hide in terrain until path cleared to an objective.)
8 model Immortals (Tesla guns for mobility.)

Elites: 150pts
1 Triarch Staler

Fast Attack: 160
4 Destroyers

Heavy: 180
2 Annihilation Barge (Gauss canon.)

The HQ on barge will be my scalpel. Used to kill bosses, Monstrous creatures, tanks, etc.
The Destroyers will be used to harass large units or take out rear units(deepstrike) or as mobile support.
Warriors will be held back to get any close objectives. Far to frail for any real work.
Immortals will be used to charge objectives and as anti horde units.
Stalker has good anti SM weapons and up close can burn out horde troops. The ability to mark enemy units to boost friendly
attacks (treat any unit shooting at unit hit by stalker as having twin linked weapons.) will help all around.
And barges will have anti horde capability as well as anti-SM.

Good, bad?

Hi Bloodmoon,

I have to say up from that I don't use destroyers - so can't comment on them. (feel free to ignore what I am about to say below if I don't get the destroyer advantages!)

The 8 man warrior unit - as an objective sitter, I'd drop that to 5 and push a couple of extra immortals. They will benefit more from the stalker TL effect and are a bit tougher anyway.

The stalker, though, looks like a major target. Generally having 2 is considered better than one. However, in your list I'm not sure the TL advantage is worth the points. Another Anni barge would be more value, and with the remaining points difference, you could put Anrakyr in the barge. This would then give you a tachyon arrow (not that that is worth much!) but would also upgrade your immortals to eternals, giving them furious charge and counter attack.

If you get Anrakyr out of the barge, you can also use the Mind in the Machine attack.

I've found Destroyers to be a huge point sink. Against Marines, they can work, but they are surprisingly fragile.

I would probably drop them in favour of something else.

Barge Spam works really well at 1k

I don't know why, but I really like the destroyers. I just can't imagine a Necron army with out them.

As for the Stalker... I've taken a hard look at it and I now have to agree, one by itself isn't that great, nor including it in a 1,000pt army. Maybe save them for 1,500+.
what if I remove the Stalker and replace it with 4 wraiths, one with whip coils. Id just try to aim the one with whip coils near where Independent characters are or where the guys with power weapons are. Not likely to prevent wounds, but will give me opportunity to cause more wounds before they take out a few of mine. And it comes to exactly 150 points that the stalker would cost.

Think that would work better?

That's a good idea to swap out the Stalker for Wraith.

Wraith are possibly the best unit we have.
