HARARE, Zimbabwe - Organizers of a classical music festival in Zimbabwe say authorities arrested a prominent British music personality at a concert in the second city of Bulawayo.
The city's Academy of Music said Saturday that Petroc Trelawny, the presenter of top classical music programs for the British Broadcasting Corp., remained in police cells after being arrested at Bulawayo's City Hall late Thursday.
It said Trelawny, aged in his 40s and a long time supporter of the academy who had made previous visits, volunteered to introduce and be the compere at the concert for no fee.
Police and immigration authorities alleged he was working in Zimbabwe without an employment permit.
Conditions in filthy police cells in Zimbabwe are notoriously harsh, worsened by near freezing night temperatures in May.
You know... some times I miss the days of Empire. We European nations have become like neutered giants, terrified of flexing our might for risk of offending regimes like that of Mugabe...
The threat of airstrike or missile should be offered to these dictators instead of weeks of simpering request.

You think that applies to this man?

Life expectancy in Zimbabwe under President Robert Mugabe fell from 62 years in 1990 to 36 in 2006. And, as described in a recent report by Physicians for Human Rights, this man-made catastrophe has only gotten worse in the last two years. To end their agony, Zimbabweans need new leadership.
Why was it Hussein needed to be taken down for democracy's sake, yet this monster, who has rendered the 'breadbasket of Africa' barren and committed unspeakable acts towards his own populace, remains unmolested?

Basically this, and the lack of anything to make the other nations care.

The left, including the anti-war elements.
Plus, the progressives used to love Mugabe. What changed?

Biccat, seriously, give it a rest. Your posts outside of OT are so much more enjoyable because they have more than one dimension. "The left" are not a monolithic bloc, and I personally know plenty of left wing people (and this is European Left, not American Left, so you know, actually left wing) who would love to see that fether taken down.
The progressives used to love Mugabe? What? I'm sure you're going to have a link to back that up, but "love" for that...yoke is just not something I've come across.

I am about as hardline left wing as you can get.
I want him erased from the earth, he suppresses the working class and has established himself and a ruling elite in a poverty stricken nation. His regime is against the principles of the left wing.
The right sold him all his guns and expensive cars, must be 'The right' that are protecting him *waggles fingers...*
You are a broken record.

No, I just offered the reason why you don't see threats of violence every time a dictator does screw up.
