For example I've read in various stories that described chaos. I'm talking about the flesh off Chaos Space Marines, cultists, regular minions ect. Not only that I read a short story about how Sanguinius and the emperor etc boarded Horus's ship when someone turned off the shield to their ship. And it states that multiple SM instantly went insane and crumpled to the floor from what they saw on the walls. Like mouths and eyes growing from them or what have ya, what ever kind of insanity there is. So does anyone have any highly detailed pictures they can share with me? The reason i'm asking is for a design of a tattoo. Basically: The base of the flower: On fire, and in the fire you can see insanity, a little further up the flames are gone and its pure chaos inscribed within it. a little further up it transform into a semi- healthy and non-corrupt flower. At the top a blooming flower surrounded by sunlight.

SO! Now that i'm done blabbing my mouth does anyone have ideas for what Chaos looks like?

Personally I think if a few eyeballs and faces on the wall drive you insane then you're a pansy and the space marines are well rid of you.

Also you’re asking for people to describe what an abstract noun looks like, not really something that can be done.

What you asked for is impossible because you can't get a picture of an abstract noun.

However if you want pictures of a wall made of eyes and mouths and things then I suggest google images, I’ve heard good things about it.

Not all Chaos guys look the same ya know. But I'll try to find some good pictures that depict the grotesque nature of Chaos well.

You should check out the Chaos space marines and Chaos daemons codeci.

Also, you should see the movie Event Horizon, many consider that film basically a 40K prequel. It's about a ship that gets lost in space and reaches an "event horizon" (read: warp) and there is plenty of disturbing (or inspiring, depending on your point of view) visual imaginery used.

Yeah, Event Horizon does an amazing job of depicting Chaos. In order to see it you have to go frame by frame through the flashbacks however. Very graphic stuff.

It's very hard to get 'chaos' right especially with just a single picture. It's always described as something that is under constant movement and change (Tzeentch anyone? ). For me this is something that makes a big part of the horror. Imagine a blob of Flesh birthing a human child and eating it up before it touches the ground. Would be hard to paint in a single picture, wouldn't it?

At least around here, Event Horizon was billed and previewed as a sci-fi mystery. So I thought it would eventually get to a logical explanation... and then it kept getting creepier and more extreme. Then eventually, rational explanations went out the window and it was clear that the ship was screwed.

It also helped that when I went into the movie it was bright and sunny out, and when I left, it was pitch black (new moon). My friends and I were all somewhere between "this is freaky" to "cool!".

I'd take some of the images above as well fro the codex and let an artist come up with an interpretation. They are Tattoo "Artists" for a reason. Let them draw it.

You can also just do a google search on hell and demons. It's the same stuff.

I don't know, they had a tattoo that could talk and you could see the lips move in Futurama-maybe we could get to that stage some day.

OP, best of luck in your search, but it sounds like you've set quite a heavy load on yourself and others locating a proper picture-I also fall into the group that thinks one single picture isn't enough to truly do justice to Chaos, but as long as you find something that works for you, that's all that matters. Good luck. Mayhaps some thorns leaking acid or spiked tentacles around the base, with eyes crying blood?

If you want some good examples of what chaos looks like head out to ebay and scare up a pair of the old Realms of Chaos hardback books that came out during 3rd edition Warhammer and Rogue Trader. Lost and the Damned and Servants to Darkness are both FULL of imagery of how the original creators envisioned chaos for the game. You should be able to find an example of just about anything in there.
